The first stop is hardware, right after the break. The Sony Xperia Z obviously has an advantage here but its noise reduction algorithms have diminished it quite obviously. Furthermore i like the Design more. International flavor Nokia 6 review. Thanks for the comparison! Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Dual:

If being able to use your phone in the bath without any danger is a high priority, though, the Sony Xperia Z is the clear winner. HTC One — 4. Until, the most you could hope for was p.

Contrast, colour reproduction, the clarity of images and viewing angles are all significantly better in the HTC phone. To an almost alarming degree at times. Sony has employed some battery-saving techniques in the Xperia Z that deliberately reduce contrast, and to our eyes they may be a bit too severe.

By submitting your details, you will also receive emails from Time Inc. UK, publisher of Trusted Reviews and other iconic brands about its goods and services, and those of its carefully selected third parties.

Sony also ships the Xperia Z with a plastic screen protector on top that extends right to the edges of the display. The former uses Krait cores while the Xperia Z has slightly less advanced Krait cores, which are clocked a little slower too — 1.

Both use the same Adreno GPU, though, which will help to keep gaming performance reasonably level. Day-to-day performance is not hugely different, though. These are very fast phones, despite their use of custom interfaces, which can sometimes slow down a phone.

For the third crop, we downscaled the Xperia Z image to 4MP, because we knew you were going to ask us to try that too. The HTC One photos still show a good deal of noise in them – so much for those big “UltraPixels” improving image quality.

An interesting thing we noticed is that Sony seems to have messed up the image processing of the Xperia Z quite badly. The Normal mode produces shots that are looking worse than the ones captured in Burst mode at 9.

This is why we included the Burst shot FoV above. Normal processing has super aggressive and quite clumsy noise suppression algorithm which smears out the foliage and the roof tiles, while making the purple fringing around the white windows more visible.

It does remove some of the noise though. Burst shot seems to skip this processing and while the shots are slightly grainier, the foliage in the tree looks much better and you get much more detail in the fire escape and roof tiles.

An Xperia Z camera without the heavy-handed post-processing would have been much further ahead of the HTC One compared to the Xperia Z camera with the current software.

Burst shot is a stop-gap measure you lose resolution, FoV, touch focus until Sony pushes out an update to fix things fingers crossed. Sony Xperia Z camera samples.

Sony Xperia Z camera samples – Burst mode. HTC One camera samples. The notification LED is awesome sorta reminds me of knight rider and that front camera position makes sense in a way. Did AC ever review the ZL?

Alex I think you may need to get your eyes checked or your monitor calibrated. I would be pretty dissatisfied with what the Z puts out, because they simply are not accurate representations of whats being photographed.

Anyone know how much of the camera performance is software vs. I like the design and build of the One but would prefer more of vanilla android experience, so am considering it and then flashing a more stock feeling ROM like CM Heres the link from XDA to all the walls http: I particularly like their approach with improving the sensor and dumping the superfluous megapixels.

I think people should get a chance to take those phones in the hand, take some pics and make their own decision. I liked the pics, and actually amplifying pics i did not see enough details on the HTC Handsets pics Furthermore i like the Design more.

Both use the same Adreno GPU, though, which will help to keep gaming performance reasonably level. Day-to-day performance is not hugely different, though.

These are very fast phones, despite their use of custom interfaces, which can sometimes slow down a phone. HTC One — Android 4. Both these phones use fairly up-to-date versions of Android. They use Android 4.

Each phone has its own custom user interface made by their respective manufacturer. This new version is quite different from the Sense of old, though — at least fresh out of the box.

Its top feature is BlinkFeed, which is an animated, scrolling widget that provides you with daily updates. They can be new stories from selected websites, or updates from your social networks.

It takes up the default home screen as standard and cannot be removed. HTC has tried to make the apps menu look simple and spare too, by reducing the number of icons that appear in a row.

Otherwise, though, HTC Sense offers few extra bells and whistles, concentrating instead on how the phone looks and feel. The Xperia Z interface has the same visual style Sony has bunged-into its phones for the last few years.

The camera approaches taken by HTC and Sony for their flagship Androids are completely different. The problem with using such a high-megapixel phone sensor is that the pixels that make up all those megapixels are tiny.

They are just 1. The HTC One offers much better low-light performance than the Xperia Z — this effect is made all the more noticeable by the lens array. This is relatively slow compared to the top phones of the year.

Put the two phones in bright daylight and give them a detail-filled object to capture, though, and the Xperia Z comes out on top. The HTC One is limited to just two keys, home and back, with task-switching activated by double-tapping the home key and Google Now launched by long-pressing it.

The choice between software on the Xperia Z and HTC One comes down to a decision between a traditional Android experience and brighter, quirkier and a little more unusual. Directly quantifying the differences in camera performance on the HTC One and Xperia Z is a near impossible task, because both phones have completely different kinds of shooters.

Sony treads a more traditional path with its megapixel Exmor RS stacked image sensor. Those are two entirely different approaches to smartphone photography, with a laundry-list of various and very particular strengths and weaknesses.

But then the HTC One is better suited to macro shots and captures more fine detail. The list of differences goes on. Look for more definitive thoughts in upcoming review of the HTC One.

Both saw us through the day of fairly intensive use without breaking much of a sweat. Hey Alex were the pictures taken with the default settings? In the skies on all images of the One it looks like all detail is gone.

Even the tarmac in the first shot is overexposed. The daffodills show spots of clipped yellow the white blobs and the small white flowers have lost all detail again. This has really has to be fixed.

The onscreen buttons take up about. Are you going to be reviewing the ZL? But the simcard cover on the back completely ruins the aesthetics for me. The notification LED is awesome sorta reminds me of knight rider and that front camera position makes sense in a way.

I think the ones camera interprets colors more accurate to real life. That thing over exposes like crazy. Thanks for the comparison! Someone needs to buy Alex a decent camera to take pictures with for his reviews.

A better video camera too. The videos are not sharp as the should be I think Sony had explained this in their video: The device has a standard memory slot such as an SD or micro SD card slot so that you can either extend the internal storage with affordable memory modules or you can retrieve data, such as photographs, easily from a memory card.

Damage resistant glass such as Corning Gorilla Glass or Asahi Dragontrail Glass is thin and lightweight, and can withstand high levels of force. The device has a display with three full subpixels per pixel, resulting in a sharp and crisp picture.

This can result in a less crisp, slightly blurred image. Devices with stereo speakers deliver sound that surrounds the user from left and right side, creating a richer sound and a better experience.

Is dustproof and water resistant. Apple iPhone 8 Plus: Optical image stabilization uses gyroscopic sensors to detect the vibrations of the camera. The lens adjusts the optical path accordingly, ensuring that any type of motion blur is corrected before the sensor captures the image.

It can transfer files, music, photos via USB, no need to install additional software. HTC M7 Android 4. Sony Xperia Z Android 4.

The Sony Xperia Z obviously has an advantage here but its noise reduction algorithms have diminished it quite obviously. However, the HTC betters the Sony in a few too many respects for them to be thought of as even. Not if you make your own.

The phone is certified to IP57 level, which means it can be immersed in water and is dustproof. MP count past 8MP is just a selling point. HTC One and Sony Xperia Z So back to the task at hand – each of these two smartphones is bound to win the few rounds that play exactly to its strengths, but there are plenty of fights hanging in the balance.

More megapixels does not equal better pictures. That gives you single-tap access to multitasking, and means you can quickly activate Google Now via the swipe-up shortcut. He is right it a 4MP ultrapixel not 4ultrapixel. To an almost alarming degree at times.
