If you are opening Smart Connect for the first time, tap OK to close the introduction screen. Tap Devices, then tap Tap OK to start searching for devices. A list of payment services appears. Manage the payment services as desired, for example, change your default payment service.

If your location isn’t found after a few minutes, move to another location. View help and options. Version When you travel outside of your home mobile network, you might need to access the Internet using mobile data traffic.

In this case, you need to activate data roaming on your device. It is recommended to check the relevant data transmission charges in advance. Version, then tap Calendar.

From your Home screen, tap If you have synchronised your calendar with one or more accounts, select the account to which you want to add this event. If you only want to add this event on your device, tap Device calendar.

From your Home screen, tap Tap, then tap Settings. Drag the slider beside Weather forecast to the right. If location services are disabled, tap Add, then search for the city that you want to add.

If you are backing up to an SD card, make sure that the SD card is properly inserted into your device. You can also reset your device to its original factory settings, with or without deleting some of your personal data, such as music and pictures.

This action is sometimes necessary if your device stops functioning properly, but note that if you want to keep any important data, you have to first back up this data to a memory card or other Backing up and restoring content on non-internal memory.

To confirm, tap Erase everything. If you forget your screen unlock password, PIN or pattern in step 6, you can use the device PC Companion or Sony Bridge for Mac applications to erase this security repair feature in the layer.

By running the repair feature, you are reinstalling software for your device and you may lose some personal data in the process. Your Home screen is changed and appears in the status bar.

If you are sharing a device with multiple users, you may need to log in as the owner, that is, the primary user, to activate or deactivate Ultra STAMINA mode. Updating Your Device Wirelessly Use the Software update application to update your device software wirelessly.

The updates you can download over a cellphone network depend on your service provider. It is recommended to use a Wi-Fi network instead of a cellphone network to download new software so you can avoid data traffic costs.

Once the two devices are connected, you can choose if you want to charge your device, transfer files, or use it for MIDI input. Note that all content on the card gets erased when you format it.

If you are backing up to an SD card, make sure the SD card is properly inserted in your device. With this application you can back up the following types of data: Internet and networks Internet and MMS Settings To send multimedia messages, or to access the internet when there is no available Wi-Fi network, you must have a working cellular data connection with the correct internet and MMS Multimedia Messaging Service settings.

Sharing Your Cellular Data Connection You can share your cellular data connection with other devices in several ways: You can synchronize data automatically for such accounts by activating the auto-sync function, or you can synchronize each account manually.

Calling Making calls You can make a call by manually dialing a phone number, by tapping a number saved in your contacts list, or by tapping the phone number in your call log. You can also use the smart dial function to quickly find numbers from your contacts list and call logs by entering part of a contact number or name and selecting from the suggestions that appear.

To Add a Direct Dial Number to Your Homescreen Touch and hold an empty area on your Home screen until the device vibrates and the customization menu appears. Scroll through the list of applications and select Direct dial.

Select the contact and the number that you want to use as the direct dial number. To Send Incoming Calls from a Specific Contact Directly to Voicemail From your Homescreen, tap Find and tap Select the contact which you want to direct all incoming calls automatically to voicemail for.

Mark the checkbox beside All calls to voicemail. Contacts Adding and editing contacts To Add a Contact From your Home screen, tap, then tap If you synchronized your contacts with one or more accounts and you are adding a contact for the first time, you must select the account you want to add the contact to.

To Delete Contacts From your Home screen, tap, then tap Touch and hold the contact that you want to delete. To delete several or all contacts, mark the checkboxes beside the contacts that you want to delete.

Two camera displays appear on your device screen: To use the AR mask feature Activate the camera. Swipe the screen to go to, then select Point the camera towards a face, then select the mask that you want to apply.

To take a photo, first tap to hide all masks, then tap To display all mask types again, locate a face in the colored frame that appears in your camera viewfinder, then tap Downloading Camera Applications To Turn On Geotagging Activate the camera.

Tap More, then tap the slider beside Save location to enable or disable the function. If you are enabling geotagging, you are prompted to enable Location services if they are not already enabled.

Tap OK, then tap the Location slider. Touch Capture With Touch capture, simply tap anywhere on the camera screen to take a photo. Photos or videos are saved on the SD card. Quick Launch Use Quick launch settings to launch the camera when the screen is locked.

Launch only When this setting is activated, you can launch the camera when the screen is locked by pressing and holding down the camera key. Suitable for photos you want to view on non-widescreen displays or print in high resolution.

Sony does not guarantee that all USB accessories are supported by your device. Tap the NFC slider. When establishing this kind of connection, refer to the User Guide of the compatible device for more information.

The sending device now starts sending data to your device. If prompted, enter the same passcode on both devices, or confirm the suggested passcode. Travel and maps Using Location Services Location services allow applications such as Maps and the camera to use information from your cellphone or Wi-Fi network as well as Global Positioning System GPS information to determine your approximate location.

If you’re not within a clear line of sight of GPS satellites, your device can determine your location using the Wi-Fi function. You can also enable a feed for regular updates – for example, you can get traffic information before commuting to work, find popular restaurants in your area, see your favourite team’s current score, and more.

Clock and Calendar Calendar Use the Calendar application to manage your time schedule. To display national holidays in the Calendar application, then tap Calendar. From your Homescreen, tap Tap, then tap Settings.

Select an option, or a combination of options, then tap OK. Tap Time and select the desired value. If desired, edit other alarm settings. Tap Side keys behavior, and then select the desired behavior of side keys when they are pressed during the alarm.

Accessibility Magnification Gesture Magnification gesture allows you to zoom in to parts of the screen by tapping an area of the touchscreen three times in succession.

Tap the slider under Magnification gesture. TalkBack TalkBack is a screen reader service for visually impaired users.

Title Applications overview Version Use the Alarm and clock application to set various kinds of alarms. Use your web browser to navigate and view web pages, manage bookmarks, and manage text and images.

Version Use your device to connect to virtual private networks VPNs, which allow you to access resources inside a secured local network from a public network.

For example, VPN connections are commonly used by corporations and educational institutions for users who need to access intranets and other internal services when they are outside of the internal network, for example, when they are travelling.

From your Home screen, tap Under Accounts, select the account type, then tap the name of the account that you want to remove. Tap, then tap Remove account. Tap Remove account again to confirm.

Sony Bridge for Mac computer programs to synchronise your device with the calendar and contacts from your Outlook account. The Settings menu is accessible from both the Application screen and the Quick settings panel.

Touch and hold an icon, then drag and drop to the Quick settings panel for display. Mark the Vibrate when ringing checkbox. Mark or unmark the Lock SIM card checkbox.

Mark the Vibrate on touch checkbox. The screen now vibrates when you tap soft keys and certain applications. If you forget this information, it may not be possible to restore important data such as contacts and messages.

Version Activate the screen. Look at your device from the same angle you used to capture your Face Unlock photo. If the Face Unlock feature fails to recognise your face, you must use the backup unlock method to unlock the screen.

Tap the notification that you want to view. You can only view notifications from the lock screen when you lock your screen with the Swipe mode. Mark the Super-vivid mode checkbox if it is not marked.

You can also use this feature to create a silent environment in which to study, work or read. To ensure optimal performance, noise cancelling headsets from Sony are recommended.

To enter a character variant, touch and hold a regular keyboard character to get a list of available options, then select from the list. It gives you predictive text and multi-tap input options.

You can activate the Phonepad text input method via the keyboard settings. The Phonepad is only available in portrait orientation. A Phonepad with numbers appears. Version You can select, cut, copy and paste text as you write.

The preview of the photo or video apears for 5 seconds after you shoot it. Edit The photo or video opens for editing after you shoot it. The photo or video is saved after you shoot it, and no preview appears.

Anti motion blur Use for minimising camera shake when shooting a slightly dark scene. Landscape Use for landscape photos. The camera focuses on distant objects. Backlight correction HDR Use to improve details in high contrast shots.

The built-in backlight correction analyses the image and automatically adjusts it to give you a perfectly lit shot. When continuous autofocus is on, the camera keeps adjusting focus so that the area within the white focus frame stays sharp.

The stabiliser helps by compensating for the small movements of your hand. Intelligent active Activate to remove the overall and detailed camera shakes. The camera determines a number of settings for you to fit the selected scene, ensuring the best possible video.

Drag the progress bar marker left to rewind, or right to fast forward. The photo is saved in the new orientation. To adjust the crop frame, touch and hold the edge of the crop frame. When the squares at the edges disappear, drag inward or outward to resize the frame.

To save a copy of the edited photo, tap Save. Version From your Home screen, tap Find and tap Album, then drag the left edge of the Album home screen to the right. Tap the desired online service, then follow the on-screen instructions to get started with it.

Device security Making Sure Your Device is Protected Your device includes several security options, strongly recommended in case of loss or theft. These options are as follows: It is very important that you remember your screen unlock pattern, PIN, or password.

If you forget this information, it may not be possible to restore important data, such as contacts and messages. Be sure to use a finger that you have registered in Fingerprint Manager.

If you fail to unlock the screen using your fingerprint after five attempts, you can use your backup pattern, PIN, or password instead. Tap a registered fingerprint in the list and then enter a fingerprint name.

Your device is not always able to determine whether your connection is secure from someone trying to imitate it. Using Custom Locations You can add any location as a trusted, custom place where your device can remain unlocked.

Tap Mode, then choose High accuracy or Battery saving Location mode. If you have activated this service on your device, you can: Make sure you have an active data connection and location services are enabled.

Learning the basics Homescreen The Homescreen is the starting point for using your device. Your Homescreen can have up to twenty panes, which extend beyond the regular screen display width.

The number of Homescreen panes is represented by a series of dots on the lower part of the Homescreen. Flick left or right to browse to the pane you want to set as your main Homescreen pane, then tap in the upper-left corner of the screen.

To Enable or Disable the Recommended Apps Listings The first time you access the application screen, you get the option to enable or disable recommended apps listings. Calling Making calls You can make a call by manually dialing a phone number, by tapping a number saved in your contacts list, or by tapping the phone number in your call log.
