I should have oredered from them rather than ordering Xperia from Rearth website which takes weeks for your case to arrive. Of Extra, if your SOT is spent using data heavily, well. What’s the Sony between adapter and cable? I used to have a Z5 Compact and the camera was disappointing. Had a play with this phone earlier today am in the market for a replacement for HTC One M8, mostly to find a phone with a better camera and have a few questions I hope Price here can answer.

It’s been almost the same since the Xperia Z in That is, Android as it ships on Google phones. I was streaming music for about 30 mins over 4g on the way to work and thats where half of my screen time comes from as well. All this while my N5 was solidly on 4g with 3 bars the whole time. It looks like someone at Sony has seen my post: I can’t even see a crack in mine. This has been the case since the N5 or possibly even prior.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated: Can anyone enlighten me on how Sony are with keeping firmware up to date? I’ve been rocking a Nexus 4 for the last few years and I’m having trouble deciding between getting a Nexus 6 or a Z3.

I don’t do a lot on my phone but frequent regular firmware updates are a necessities as I use the device for testing Android applications I’ve written which is why I’ve always stuck to stock Android phones.

Please use the Buying thread for all discussion of pricing, ordering, deliveries etc. Use the Accessories thread for discussion of cases, screen protectors etc. God these things are slippery: Really hoping my case arrives tonight.

Mine does this too It’ll be innocently sitting on my desk, next minute I hear a crash and it’s on the floor. Rescued mine the other night when getting a haircut.

Put sunnies and phone on the bench in front of me and it started to slide slowly. Just caught it before it went all the way off. I haven’t checked on the thread in a few days, and I seem to be one of the few who have issues when use anything other than GSM only for calls.

Wife has the same issue too with her Z3. Does anyone get bad static through the earpiece when on a phone call — it’s a lot more noticeable than my old nexus 5 and there a fix?

On another note what’s the go with image enhancement — does it cause severe battery drain and is there an advantage in turning it on? Finally managed to place an order with Telstra! Absolutely can’t wait for this phone!

The battery life on my N5 is abismal and Remote Play will keep the girlfriend happy ;. For those who pre-ordered through Telstra, how long did it take for the online activation to kick in?

It’s been almost 24 hours and nothing yet, pretty ordinary since it’s a simple SIM card re-burn. We do these every day at work and they generally take 5 minutes after a simple phone call.

I had the same problem. If it is just a handset upgrade number was already Telstra it should take less than 4 hours. It will then say it worked, ignore that. It will eventually give you a phone number to call some number.

Ignore that, it will then forward your call. Just tell the rep your mobile number, she will ask for details to ‘Open the account’ She will ask for the 13 digits on the sim card before the ‘N’.

Then she I keep saying she because the person who assisted me was female will start working on activating the sim card. It will happen instantly when they do it only if the number was Telstra before the new sim.

Any opinions on why Sony hasn’t gone OIS with the camera? I had an extended play with one of these in store and the camera seemed pretty reasonable. Just wondering why no OIS. What sort of screen on time are people getting from the phone?

I’ve read the battery life is awesome and then I see reports in forums of people getting only 3 hours SOT. Does the phone generate much heat doing normal tasks like web browsing on 4G?

I don’t play games on my phone so it’s never overly stressed. How’s everyone call quality through the earpiece — is there static in the background or is there nothing but clarity?

I wouldn’t go as far as that, even on HD Voice the sound quality is still sub-par to other devices out in the market. The guy in a Sony shop told me it was up in blue tick territory with regard to reception.

Sounds like he may have been exaggerating a bit. From what I’ve read the charging dock comes with adapters that allow it’s use when the phone is in a case. Is it a particular case that is being referred to or would I be able to get away with using it with a generic thin hard case attached?

The device is certainly no where near blue tick territory. I’m running now and im getting 1 bar reception in a normal full coverage zone. Looks at my Note 4 with full bars and crys Just a noob thought here, but is it possible that it’s to do with the ‘scale’ of the reception indicator?

Or have you verified the signal levels and it’s still shit? My Z3 seems pretty reasonable on Optus, I expected far worse. And the 4G is generally lightning fast even when only on bars.

With lower signal the phone is working harder to keep that signal thus draining battery. No one on Telstra running 4G the entire day will get 8 hours SOT a day or more if it keeps bouncing between 1 and 4 bars constantly.

I was in the Telstra store today, the big one in the city, and the Z3 that was on display was bouncing between 4g, 3g and, surprisingly, 2g. All this while my N5 was solidly on 4g with 3 bars the whole time.

That store has an in building cell I’ve got the pink spot. Only happens when in lowlight with a white backdrop. I hope Sony release a fix, but I’m not holding my breath and I don’t take too many photos of white walls so I should be ok.

I was really starting to think the phone is a good thing but poor reception is a deal breaker. Is there any Aus information that can be trusted that rates the reception of various phones?

Reviews obviously can’t be trusted because many of them are done overseas with different carriers. It could be an issue with not using the correct APN settings on the phone.

Basically its a mix of hardware and software. But it will never be perfect, even on other carriers, this phone doesn’t perform like the Z2 reception quality wise. Im about to get a Z3 from Vodafone, coming from Virgin which is quite average for coverage is the Reception good in Sydney with Z3 on Vodafone.

Also from anyones experience do you think it will be long before the Z3 is free on vodafone 80 plan as the other flag ships currently are? Whats the connector on the left hand side used for? Half way down with the two little bumps.

I thought sony had been doing this for a while with JB and KK but has never gotten to a mainstream “daily driver” release. I use Gmail as my main email account so I get double alerts from both Gmail and the regular email loaded.

Quick camera question for those more experienced with the Xperia’s. I notice it takes photos using a sequentially numbered filename eg. However, if I move some of these files elsewhere, it picks up numbering again from the first removed file rather than holding the sequence.

If I remove files, the camera will restart again at Bit of a pain, as it means I get filename clashes if I move multiple sets of files into a single place later. Loving the phone though. Was mildly concerned about no blue tick up in NE Vic, but the signal is comfortably stronger than the S4 it’s replacing.

Does anyone know how to customise the lock screen clock? I’ve already enabled widgets under the security settings but none of the KitKat swipe functuons seem to be working.

When I select and hold the clock on the lock screen I have the option to delete but don’t really want to do it as I’m worried I can’t get it back. She wants a clock but does not like the new 4.

That’s interesting because there have been reports in this thread of poor reception with this phone. How are others finding the reception? Yea looks a lot cleaner Is it available to the public to ‘update’?

Also has anybody had any experience with the PS4 Remote Play yet? How is it on Australian internet speeds? Bought my Z3 through the Sony website last week and after a week of being extremely careful with it I picked it up a moment ago to see a big crack going from the magnetic charger area to the bottom of the back screen.

I have no idea how this has happened as I haven’t dropped it even once and the last thing I had done was place it back down on my desk the night before and I am fairly certain it wasn’t cracked then, It’s not like I’ve been throwing this around or anything and I haven’t even been keeping it in my pants pockets because I was worried about it till I got a proper cover.

Guess I’ll have to try to get in contact with Sony support on Monday when they are open again but I’m freaking out pretty bad right now as I never had anything like this happen with my old phones.

Does anyone have any idea about how expensive it is to have the back glass replaced or if this is covered under warranty or whatever? My brother just smashed his brand new Z3.

Fell out of his pocket while he was sitting down about 25cm and destroyed the front screen. To be honest i’m finding mildly better reception than my S3 4G that its replacing Telstra. I bought a Z3 from Telstra and i am extremely happy with it, especially compared to my old Z1.

The battery life is insane, the screen is gorgeous, the dual speakers are nice. Though sadly i am finding 4g reception in my house a little worse then the Z1 but by the same token my Z3 is getting better 4G reception outside my house then my Z1 did.

However i have to say the best thing by far is the touchscreen doesn’t go all wonky like it was doing on my Z1: Anyone know what the best way to get repaired or replaced? Go through Sony or Optus?

You can take it here: Also is there a way to make the recent apps button work as the menu as you could on previous phones. Had this phone for a few weeks now and have just noticed the top speaker is very distorted when the volume of calls is up.

When turned down it goes away but is obviously a lot harder to hear people especially outside. I think it’s a mix of hardware and software, but mostly hardware. Sony have seemed to cheap out on a few of the necessitates like call quality, speaker and reception.

The same thing happened to me, and the phone is with Fonebiz at the moment. I assume it will be covered under warranty because the phone was not dropped, but I’m aware that I might have a fight on my hands — it’s my word against theirs.

I’ll cough up if they want me to pay for it, but I’m disappointed that the phone appears to be really quite fragile. Having said this, I know a few Z2 owners who are less careful than me with their phones, and they haven’t had any problems.

Can people with self cracked screens actually post some feedback about how it was fixed. Alot of people experience issue yet no one updates how it got resolved. Was seriously considering z3 now its way on the backburner and with lack of any warranty feedback, even more hesitant.

It’s been a known issue with the Xperia Z build for the past two years, the phone build needs to be put together to ensure water resistance. Don’t drop your phone. Front and back glass intact, metal frame flattened.

It’s a record for me. Z3, total of 6 days. The iPhone 4 frame is stainless steel, the Z3 frame is anodized aluminium which is the same as the iphone 5 back Im waiting for my loan phone from optus but they said chances are it will be covered under warranty as its not reasonable for a phone to bend even when dropped.

I’ve got a screen protector for the back glass, had a look at it today and it has a crack in it not sure how it happened but lucky I had the screen protector on or it could have been the glass. How many charge cycles should i expect to start seeing peak performance from my Z3 — im on my 4th charge — and battery is not really that impressive.

Worse than my LG G2 so far. Kind of hard when it doesn’t last the whole day. But hopefully it will get better. Can anyone recommend a good dialer and messaging app can’t stand the Sony ones and not a big fan of hangouts.

Another popular app is Textra SMS. I use it fairly heavyish, movies and web browsing Facebook for 2. But now have auto on. Still phone is new and wearing in. Not worried to much just wondering what others experience is in first weeks.

BTW I’m with Vodafone, I’m sorry of wondering if the Flasky reception is having something to do with it, my reception is quite often at 1 bar. I found that reception really hurt my battery life just changed from Vodafone to boost.

Also google location reporting. Another thing that had an effect was double tap to wake as I keep my phone in my front pocket with the screen facing my leg.

I am now very happy with battery life after figuring out what has been draining it. Boost is Telstra, there are problems with the Z3 on Telstra. Thus your poor reception problems.

Actually I have had excellent reception on boost compared to Vodafone. Maybe the problem is with Telstra 4g as Boost is 3g only. My battery life is better on Boost than Vodafone. Why would double tap to wake causing battery drain?

I thought this should have minimal effect on battery. Yes, you are correct, the phone only has problems on 4G. Seems the IP rating has been shot to poo, which was the other driving force behind my descision to get it.

I’ve struggled with remote play wtih this phone to be honest. Had a vita using the same network setup and it was miles better with that. Pretty sure this phone can’t do wifi direct with the ps4 so that limits the usability of remote play.

Hopefully seeing its only new that they can fix it up. And hopefully they release the phone holder for the dual shock 4 soon as well. The IP rating and remote play had me sold, pretty disappointed that these features advertised are not turning out to be the real deal: Nope none in the box, they have one on their site, but it’s not available yet.

I’m guessing its not going to be cheap either. I’m disappointed with the remote play thing for the moment but i think it can be fixed. Apart from that i really do love this phone. It’s snappy, has great battery life, good screen.

Really happy with it. Hahaha and I take showers with the z3 screen lock ofc and also regularly drown it in a bucket for 5 minutes to wash off. My port covers aren’t perfectly aligned just that the pressure test seems to show that it’s still working.

Sony Z3 for 10 Days. Whilst GUI is crisp and functional the phone itself is more fragile than an egg. It has developed cracks around the camera no longer Waterproof then and it has only been in my pocket or on the desk — not a scratch on it.

Once you look into it you find its claims are untrue — only Waterproof in Freshwater, dies in Salt and indicators are it doesn’t like Chlorine. So basically it wont die in the rain but otherwise don’t get it wet.

Should have stuck to Samsung. This phone honestly sounds like the most rushed piece of hardware to come out in years. Maybe Sony’s push to get a flagship out every 6 months wasn’t such a great idea.

It seems they have skipped a lot of QC tests to get it out there. Not that it really concerns me anymore. I’m now hanging out for the droid turbo after seeing posts in this thread and XDA about the Z3’s issues.

The really annoying part is that most reviews of the phone are glowing. It’s not until real world users post in forums like this that the truth starts to be told. The exemplary battery life that a lot of reviewers crow on about doesn’t get talked about a lot by users either.

I’m seeing lots of reports of 3 or 4 hours SOT. My old Note 2 does way better than that plus I can change out the battery if needed. I was looking at this phone closely but now I don’t think I’d touch it with a barge pole.

No Sammy fanboi here but despite being made of “cheap” plastic I’ve never had one fall apart or crack despite fairly heavy use. The Z3’s glass and metal just doesn’t live up to the hype.

I’ve not had the same experience. However, it doesn’t mean you mistreated your phone. So far, I am happy with my Z3 and while it does seem to be more “fragile” than an all plastic phone, I’ve treated it normally and not had any issues so far.

For me, battery life is great and I can easily get over 5 hrs SOT on a regular basis. Of course, if your SOT is spent using data heavily, well.. Maybe I’m too easy to please, but for me the battery life of this phone is amazing I think those reviewers were spot on, amazing battery life, at least for my needs, it is.

And pretty happy as well with the build quality of the phone too, managed to drop it last week, no case, bumped of my foot and slid about 3 meters on the concrete car park floor Apart from scratches on the frame and a couple of scratches on the front glass, which are not that bad anyway, the phone is fine, probably would have been much worse is if hit the concrete full on, but still, before I picked it up from the ground, I was sure the damage will be much worse after seeing it flying on the concrete.

Will definitely get a case now, I was waiting for the official smart case, but now that I’ve seen it Yes, and having been one of the unlucky ones to have experienced the cracking issue, I’d strongly recommend buying tempered glass front and back covers like Nillkn at the very least.

The cracking is probably a by product of the water proofing. Perhaps there’s a fair bit of pressure being applied to the glass back and front. I would imagine that during the manufacturing process the glass would need to be aligned perfectly so that its sealed evenly and pressure is distributed evenly.

Environmental factors probably come into play too. I’ve never used a samsung phone but im sure some samsung users have their own unique complaints about their phone.

It’s been proven the battery life is among the best in its class. Your mileage will obviously vary depending on reception. People who are generally happy with their new Z3 will have no reason to post about their phone working fine, what’s the point?

So you’ll see a disproportionate number of people complaining about problems, the same with any other phone. As for me the Z3 is a refreshing change. I was a Samsung fanboy for the last 3 smartphones until their lagtastic firmware and design made me move on, I will be missing their plastics though.

Dropped my Galaxy S4 multiple times and it survived with no cracked screens, definitely getting at least a bumper case for my Z3. Had a look at one at JB and the clamps around the phone have pushed the frame in Extremely pleased with my Z3 but also extremely disappointed with unfixable blue tint from screen.

I’ll live with that for an otherwise great device for my needs. One of my units had a strong blue tint I’ve used it in the shower a few times and fully submerged it in the spa yesterday, still no issues!

I had my wedding last weekend and was connected to our hotel’s WIFI and was able to make and receive calls perfectly with no voice distortion or clipping. I was connected to 4G as well. One thing i will hand to this phone is sound quality; very happy, Sony delivers in crisp sound even on the non-stock players.

My tint is too strong and cannot be calibrated out enough. I’ve tried the best settings but when I compare it to my Z2 or G3 the blue tint and washed out colours are too obvious.

I checked the compatible devices on the optus website and it doesnt say anything about the z3 so I take it this isn’t compatible at the moment. A common complaint with the Xperia Z series, the waterproof speakers are very low in sound quality.

I find it better than the full auto setting. This phone is really good. The battery performance blows my mind coming from my iphone 4s. I cannot get used to android however. Some of the most basic of functionalities are missing:.

There are some positives like easy to use plug-in features of phones plug-in, drag some files and be done, battery life and battery life. I find android hard to get used after using multiple generations of iphone.

I might sell this later and and pay the difference perhaps. Long time iPhone users hate the move to android. Seen from my experience. Personally I switch between the two platforms seamlessly and whenever I feel like it, however find iOS more pleasurable to use everyday.

I persevered with the stock z3 keyboard for a month but it’s lacking. Swiftkey is far better. Anyone have tips for getting the most out of the camera for closeup macro type shots in low light eg.

Even when using the manual mode with the touch focus the shots don’t have the same sharpness as my 2 year old HTC m7, which I find strange. After having on the LG G2 i cant be without it. A small warning to future owners — This phone is slippery as a fish without a case, it’ll slide off even the slightest incline, i’ve had to rescue it a couple times already.

Either get a case, or watch it like a hawk when you have it out on a table. Yeah I smashed mine after 6 days. Got a replacement from Telstra. No idea how on earth they did it, but I got a Reco phone.

Found out about an hour ago that the screen also has a single dead pixel. I have been an iPhone user for the past 5 years, I’m also now onto my third iPad air 2 and didn’t find the switch that difficult.

Android does have its disadvantages, but nothing that cannot be worked around. I will probably never buy an android tablet, but in terms of a mobile phone you can’t beat it. I just downloaded two episodes on utorrent and watched them straight away.

All on my phone! I wish I could do that with my iPad! I’ve been using iOS for 4 years and I find android has given me the true potential of smart phones. I love my z3. Most of these can be fixed with apps.

Heaps of other keyboard apps as well. Was that through stay connected or did they give you a freebie? I’m surprised there are refurbs already since the phone is so new. You should definitely take it back though.

Under power management, there is location-based Wi-Fi, should I turn it on or off? If turn on, should I choose standard or advanced power policy? How does this setting works and does it makes any difference to battery?

If a phone company gives you a freebie after you smash your expensive new phone you should probably take it and run. And seriously, this thing is more than a handful.

Its a bit heavy and kind of thick as well. But overall, the phone is a great performer. I see that it runs on Android 4. The size is a step up for most people but you get used to it or forget about it pretty quickly, I went from an S3 and I don’t notice it any more.

As for the weight Yeah coming from iPhone you do tend to find a lot of annoying little irks. Some things that were simple before seem a total hassle That said once you start taking advantage of the extra freedom android provides it’s hard to go back.

I’ve got a quick question for all Z3 owners I’m trying to get a customisable live wallpaper on the lock screen but can’t seem to be able to do it You can change the lockscreen wallpaper, but not to a live wallpaper.

There may be an app to do it though, its just not a default. On another note, my screen just died on my phone. I was looking at the internet, when all of a sudden the screen went white and it has lines up and down it.

If I get it replaced, it will be my 3rd Z3 due to faults. My first had a speaker phone issue. With Vodafone, it has been just over 30 days I think since I got the replacement on ELF, will they do that again as its really obvious or will it have to go back?

So glad I got the G3. Far too many Z3 horror stories, especially for a phone that had barely any market share. I had the G3 for a while and it has the worst battery life couldn’t get over 4.

Luckily the Note 4 fixed that Yes, it’s a very nice phone. I thought about it for a long time also. Every phone is a compromise imo and the S5 fitted my needs a bit better.

Not sure how this will plug in to the side micro USB port but looks like we are getting battery cases for the z3. My Z3 black just arrived by Star Track this morning. My first impression is it’s huge, coming from iP5.

I do have to note though for future reference: I have been given a Sony Z3 handset by Telstra free of charge to review. The comments expressed by me reflect my user experience and personal opinion.

It’s taking them way too long to release this in Australia. I bought mine here: It’s already available — http: Is there much latency, what’s your internet speeds? This was pretty much the whole reason I wanted a Z3.

The Z3 may make a gr8 hover board: Apparently new firmware is out for the Z3. Any idea how long it will take for carriers to roll it out? No, just the source code which means people that make ROM’s can work on it.

God I miss my phone, I have gone back to the Note 2 and the 10 day’s i’ll have without it are going to be looooong. Hope someone can help me here I’m looking at getting a Z3 for my son, he wants 32GB internal storage and I’m a bit confused regarding which model to get.

They only come with 16GB internal, the one model that comes with 32GB is Not fully compatible in Australia so I would recommend avoiding. Thinking about buying the Z3 Dual Sim variety for business and private use.

My Telstra contract has just finished and I am about to roll in another 24 months contract and going to get Z3 maybe next week. Were you after specific views on the strengths and weaknesses of the Z3 against the other devices you listed because a “good choice” is subjective depending on your own needs and usage?

Yeah I guess you’re right. One of the main reasons why I didn’t choose iPhone is because I don’t want to use itune to manage my MP3 files. I just want to have a drag and drop system — from my understanding Z3 allows this.

Battery life is important to me. But I gotta say HTC looks very nice though. Hi djmocok, I can confirm battery life on z3 is the best I have ever experienced on a smart phone. Are there any major differences between the different offerings from carriers and Sony stores here?

I’ve read the bloatware level on these phones is pretty low from the local carriers nothing from optus unless you use their sim — boot screen and one or two apps from Telstra?

Will probably just go with whoever offers the cheapest probably buying two phones at this stage unless there is something I should watch out for from a particular carrier. I’ve read the bloatware level on these phones is pretty low from the local carriers The Z3 that Telstra provided me had over 60 apps already installed on it, though aside from Telstra One none of it was Telstra related.

Sony appear to have a whole bunch of apps they throw in. Some useful, some not so much. For example, Xperia Lounge. However with the Sony apps, there is duplication. So the free videos can only be viewed via the Sony Video Unlimited app.

The Sony apps can only be updated through the Xperia Update Centre. Thanks for that info Kalak. I guess that means there will be bloatware, no matter which one a choose: At least the carriers seem to be keeping theirs minimal.

I’m assuming I could flash any of the D firmwares — eg. To be honest this is my first Android phone, but I assume so. Got my phone Thursday, got bumped into at a club Saturday night which caused me to drop it and smash the screen.

You don’t even need to be bumped. This thing floats off seemingly flat surfaces. My reflexes are improving from catching it. Better than what it looks like now Haha!

Have to agree with that. I almost bought the same style case as you, but want to try and get away with a gel cover first for added grip. Anyone finding streaming issues over Bluetooth on apt-X devices?

I seem to have poor streaming on my headphones and receiver. It keeps chopping up or skipping but never drops the connection. Where my iPhone paired and worked perfectly with my Pioneer head unit it took 15 minutes just to get the Z3 to pair.

Since then half the time it doesn’t realise I’m in the car, especially when it comes to playing audio. I often have to ‘throw’ the audio at the head unit for it to pick things up, and even then the track information is ALWAYS incorrect.

Battery lasts for a day at least with constant emails and internet usage. How are you finding reception? Also does it tell you which sim is being dialled when someone rings you?

Probably should have purchased it from the Sony store instead I guess. I am with Vodafone and can make calls and texts but can’t access the internet. I have the Telstra logo on start-up and then on the home screen the Telstra account and internet icon.

Is there a way I can remove these and access the net through my Vodafone account? God, tell me about it. This thing has a mind of its own, my last phone I dropped maybe? It’s succeeded a couple times, only casualties are ‘thankfully’ two dents on the corners prefer this over a cracked screen and a glass screen protector about to be replaced Specific details should be on Vodafone’s website.

I swear if you look away long enough it’ll find its way out of a closed zipper pocket Yes its a slippery not so little bugger Wife put on top of toilet holder and Z3 did not like it, preferred crashing to floor, went to charge at home, it just started gliding towards edge of bench I had to do this with TPG Optus since it didn’t detect and add APN settings automatically Also change the default signature because it will say from the Telstra mobile network on outgoing emails.

I went and got the Z3 yesterday — got the copper one. Coming from Motorola Razor Hd, this thing is impressive, especially the screen and speaker quality. Hey guys I was hoping you guys could do a quick check for me when you shake your Z3 do you hear a slight rattle.

Maybe it’s unrelated maybe it is. My Xperia Z3 headphone port suddenly stopped working. I have a pair of the Xperia Noise cancelling headsets however when I plug them in it opens up a the mic settings option.

Regular headphones register but no sound comes through them. I’ve found putting a plastic screen protector on the back the one that was included with the Nilkin glass front protector makes it much less slippery.

Mine doesn’t slide across surfaces anymore. I’m new to android with this phone and while i’ve managed to figure out most things, I can’t figure out why my phone is taken off silent in the middle of the night.

When I plug in the charger after 10pm, SmartConnect kicks in, triggers the Night event which loads the alarm app and sets my phone to silent. The speaker with the X is on my status bar at the top.

Yet, every night I’m woken up around am by my phone vibrating from notifications coming through. Silent mode is changed to Vibrate mode, and I have to switch it back to silent.

I had Profile Scheduler installed to change profiles properly but it was giving me the same problem, so even with it uninstalled I still can’t figure out what’s removing silent in the middle of the night.

I put a wet apply protector UltimateShield on the rear of my Z3C — it now sticks upright handsfree to windows when I want to take a reflection-free photo of the outside of the office: I won’t be doing it often though!

Not sure how to find out what frequencies the phone is actually using. Mine is currently getting really hot. Gets to mid 30s just don’t basic tasks now. And battery is doing quick.

Out of curiosity how did everyone charge their phone out of the box? Don’t really think it had anything to do with it, but you never know. Right, the got in the shop said run it right down then charge.

Mine was at 60 too out of the box. Here is the newly published app on the playstore: This was the same app as the Sony Z3 built in backup and restore app. This can’t be uninstalled or disabled.

Sony need to hear about this.. I have a Z3C, have the original Sony app Backup and Restore — looking at that, it looks like the google play store has been hacked and a malicious version has been uploaded to replace the original Sony app.

It looks like someone at Sony has seen my post: Hey guys is the camera supposed to be this bad? My Z3 Dual arrived from DWI today and everything is good, I really like the phone but the camera is really bugging me.

Every other phone including my iPhone 4 would be in a different league to this camera. Notice my laptop, and my vaporiser on the table. I couldn’t get it to get a clear shot of my laptop logo, or even a clear shot of my vaporiser and the logo on that.

Is it just me? If this is the case I need to get another phone. DWI obviously won’t accept a return so I’ve already lost money on this. The cover for the box, is it supposed to slide right off?

Mine wasn’t taped down with a sticker or anything and the plastic covers on the back and front of the phone were full of air bubbles, as if they had been removed and placed there again.

The box is suppose to be sealed on the top and bottom with Sony circular seals, maybe somebody returned it and they onsold it? I’m thinking that you’ve asked that because their is a difference in their return policy if it’s bought from Ebay.

I returned a phone recently that was bought from their website, within the 14 day return policy period, no problems. I’m going to try to return it. Only thing missing is the plastic wrapping from the phone.

I’ve taken to using the AUX cable the last couple of days because it was annoying me so much. I have Bluetooth in my Nissan patrol. Just the standard 6 stacker and have no issues.

I setup my phone with one of the Sony apps to start playing music when connected. Usually I jump in the car, turn ignition to run to glow the plugs and my phone starts playing music from the phone speakers.

Start the car, about seconds later starts running through the car stereo. It works quite well. With my iPhone i had to keep switching between FM and Bluetooth a couple of times, and 9 times out of ten it wouldn’t auto play.

Would have to unlock the phone and press play. Just grabbed a white z3 for my better half this weekend, after being quite disspointed with reviews of the Nexus 6 and still not being able to get them or a moto X.

Plus looking for something with useful battery life. As a long term Nexus user, I’m pretty happy with the z3, and the relatively stock feel of the OS from Sony. Aside from getting rid of some bloatware Sony apps, I don’t have any problems with the rest of the software.

I’ll be waiting for the Moto X to hit local stores shortly so I can compare with the z3 and decide which handset I personally want, but I’m currently leaning towards the z3.

While the Moto X might have some fancy features and faster updates, what’s the point if your battery dies midway through the day! Great initial impressions so far. You realise they have a 14 day from invoice date return period?

As posted above, I’ve used it and it works. I’m worried they won’t accept the return since I’ve taken the plastic off of the phone and the box is open.. It’s not going to be an issue as long as you have the original packaging and the phone is in new condition and you haven’t damaged it in any way, believe me.

The will try to give you a new exchange phone but if you make it crystal clear you want a refund you will get one. If the phone is in new condition, no marks on it etc, they’ll take it back.

Here’s their return policy: That app also showed up in my “Installed” apps in play store Z3C, but it’s a “phantom” listing — the app is not actually installed on the phone I think you can only really install it if you download the apk manually to install Beautifully made, looks great.

Nice snug fit but without being too tight. Has a pull tab to remove the phone easily. Pull tab has a magnet in the end so it sticks against the case when fully retracted.

All 3 places I called charged about the same, but they all had no stock. Guessing they use the same supplier. I discovered this yesterday and got the word out to Sony and Xperiablog.

Didn’t know where to post it here thought it would concern some people. So apologies if you already mentioned it and kudos for being alert enough to find and advise. Google’s malware bots, are bozos By the way I got the copper version one and it’s not so smudgy at the back.

The copper colour hides the smudge quite well. Aca just had a story on battery life in smart phones to see which one is “the best” Only problem was there was 3 I phones, 2 Samsung, HTC and 2 huwea however is spelt Don’t even give the phone with close to if not the best battery life a go For the record note 4 lasted longest just infront of s5.

Does anyone know how we can switch it off so if using another one from play store you don’t end up with a double up of lock screens. Not sure what you mean? Waking the phone takes me straight to my homescreen.

I saw that, you can see they only put up the big marketers. Where was the lg g2 and z3: If you don’t play games and just have the phone for surfing the net and stuff the battery life is very good actually.

Maybe it’s a bug, maybe it isn’t — my phone is international stock from DWI. Although I see no reason why there wouldn’t be an option to turn it off entirely.

Someone else who bought theirs locally will have to chime in. I don’t have that option. See screen shot, is this a bug with my phone. You can’t switch the lockscreen off if you have certain features enabled such as FDE Full Device Encryption, have an exchange account configured or if it has a device administrator which blocks it.

BUT How do we then use an alternate lockscreen — surely there is a work around for this, I have had alternate lockscreens on my other mobiles with the exchange servers setup. The one spot i did measure at my desk a few days before hand, was worst by a little.

Again many conditions affecting stuff. So many suckers in this country haha. Don’t watch much TV but i was watching news due to Phil Hughes and saw the ad Not sure about anywhere else but TT hasn’t been on in Sydney for quite a while They tried to set everything up the same in regards to screen brightness, wifi etc Want a bad test just didn’t cover many handsets.

It is now like this on my stock D from Sony. I think it has been like this since a What’s New update. This is probably the biggest win though.. Just saw on xda there is a bounty for whoever can come up with root.

The latest update to Whats new has fixed this But on my first discharge — battery is quite a concern so far I know i need a few charge cycles. Phone is getting quite hot from just normal tasks, if anything worse than my last Z3, it quite often gets to 37d just installing apps and viewing web pages etc.

What temps are everyone else experiencing, my last phone rarely got above 32d, unless it was intense gaming etc. Also i can tell the temps going up as the phone gets hotter to touch, to the point where my hands go a bit tingly.

What temps are everyone else experiencing Honestly haven’t measured it, but mine will get noticeably hotter with even simple games like Clash of Clans. No thats correct — thats where the battery points connect to the phone — should be the same on all phones.

Had a play with this phone earlier today am in the market for a replacement for HTC One M8, mostly to find a phone with a better camera and have a few questions I hope someone here can answer. Are there any 1×1 clock widgets like the ones available on HTC One?

I use 4 of these on my homescreen to show times in 4 timezones and would really like to have them on the Z3. These niggles aside, the Xperia skin seems about as unintrusive as the SenseUI, and the camera sure is impressive.

Might even go for the dual SIM version. Looks like the dual shock 4 mount is now available from Sony online. Has been out of stock for a while but looks to be back in stock.

I just purchased one and it’s supposed to be delivered sometime next week. Using the stock keyboard, does anyone know how to access the one handed mode without going to settings? Coming from a Note 2 the camera is a massive step up, but yes I agree the camera isnt as good as I thought it would be.

Just spent a week playing golf in perfect photography conditions big blue skies, perfect green fairways and a lot of shots are still very blocky. Does the dialer keypad let you search for names by hitting keys on a numeric keypad.

As you type it shortlists and highlights the successful ones. Is that what you were after? I’m still getting familiar with the phone as android is new to me. I’ve mentioned this in another post but still not able to find a good fix for the low playback volume of music.

Someone else put me onto the ‘poweramp’ app which has totally fixed up my issue with gaps between trance tracks on split albums it has gapless playback and has also improved the base and treble.

I have found some apps that you can use to increase the volume of individual tracks, but what i’m really after is to increase the overall volume of all music playback.

Has anyone else found a fix for this? Picked up a new Z3 from Telstra 36hrs ago. Last night I set the phone up, this morning I checked my mail then placed the phone in my loose shorts pocket by itself and walked up six flights of stairs.

At the top I pulled my phone out and it wouldn’t unlock. It too me about 10 minutes to work out why as it still had the delivery plastic sheets front and back on the phone. The screen was cracked from the right hand corner of the lower speaker across the face making the touch screen unusable.

This phone has never been dropped or mistreated or even used for a phone call. I have had several smartphones in the past and never had a broken screen. Telstra will not exchange it, I believe this phone has a latent defect and there was a stress raiser in the speaker cutout that cracked the first time it was placed in my pocket.

I am furious, how do I make contact with Sony customer complaints, as per above I believe this particular handset had a manufacturing fault that created a stress raiser in the glass.

As long as no evident damage on phone from a drop etc Find similar stories on net and print off to back up. Its Turkey day in USA probably why cant contact At least had sense to have insurance: I think the Z3 is a nice phone but reading several reports of random unexplained screen cracking made me decide not to touch it.

One of my friends has a Z1, my boyfriend has the Z1 Compact, so I feel like they are good phones. Although, what worries me is the front camera. The iPhone’s have really good front camera’s, but I’ve noticed it is utter crap on my boyfriends and friends phones Is the camera any better on the Z3, and any threads or really good articles on swapping from iOS to Android?

Wont be able to swap until March I think, but I would really like some information on it all. Is the camera any better on the Z3 Selfies aren’t as good as on my iPhone 5 but overall the camera is better if you learn how to use it and you are able to take your time when taking photos, something I can’t do since I use my camera as a ‘point and shoot capture the moment’ camera, its just not as fast as the iPhone, image quality is usually better though.

Now my digital life pretty much revolve around Google services which integrates really well with Android devices. I can’t even see a crack in mine. And by the way, the body is still only 8mm thick.

Well under a cm. And it feels pretty good in hand with its Sony like flat back slight camera bump but I use a thin case. I guess the Sony’s have more squared edges vs the rounded edges of the Asus and others.

I’ll give Sony credit, when the biggest gripe is that the design hasn’t changed dramatically you know they have a solid phone. They are virtually the only company make high end “compact” phones regularly as well.

They don’t really pander to much. It may end up being their downfall but I like it none the less. You often see the top manufacturers release a last gen or very mild updated phone with a shiny new look and people eat that stuff up.

As it should be. There’s absolutely no reason to slim down phones. This thing packs one hell of a punch, both as far as raw processing power and battery capacity go. Don’t bother, it shakes the phone up too much.

Sony Mobile does not understand cameras, and these are despite what the label says not Exmor-level cameras. The pixels are too small to work effectively even in daylight, the stabilization is utter crap etc.

Not to mention all that sweet sweet DRM. You’ll get better images faster if you use watercolors and paint the scene yourself. With regards to software updates, always expect that Sony will only support the phone with full, timely Android upgrades for a year or, at most, two major Android versions up from the one the phone launched with.

Anything that happens past that, treat it as a very fine gift even though you did technically pay for it. Update quality in itself is pretty hit or miss admittedly though it’s more “hit” than “miss”.

The battery lasts a long time, the screens are big enough for everyone, the audio quality is usually, at least top notch. Yeesh, not a lot of enticing stuff going on considering the price.

Consider though that the only other flagship competitor the Xperia Compact phones have are the iPhone SE, and you’ll understand why these phones are not unpopular. I love how people push for phones to be slimmer and then complain about smaller battery.

OIS and a but of better processsing might improve things a lot. IF you have adequete light they perform very well. I suspect software cause of that. The sensors seem top notch.

Sony has had good track record with updates in past. They are pusing regular software patches And week 1 regular monthly patches to all X devices. They dropped the Z5 but they also tried to keep Z3 alive.

The x series on other hand had good sales in asia and europe. So maybe they will have good support for these devices. But on some apps like snapchat, that smaller battery shows.

The audio is great. I just gotta say that both of these lines of devices were dealt with horribly; The Z5 isn’t even getting O despite running the same chip as the 6P, which is already on O.

And while the Z3 launched with perfect software, Sony massacred it completely by Lollipop. As if the AOSP memory leaks weren’t enough, Sony somehow completely destroyed the camera performance and its own theme engine.

By Marshmallow these things were mostly fixed aside from the theme engine, but after dropping the devices from the N upgrade plan which is understandable, and we should blame Google for that, they provided zero software support.

No bugfixes, no security updates, no nothing — I assume the same is going to happen to the Z5 series, and the X and XZ series when the time comes for that. And to think that I’m still prepared to overlook that and accept that they are one of the best OEM out there I actually like the shutter button.

Agree on all other points, though. The cameras are quite bad. The biggest improvement of this phone along with the trade off of worse button placement is that this phone with a Snapdragon and Hexagon may work with the google pixel camera algorithms.

They should really push the limits on bezels, though; like on the XA – no side bezels. I always recommend Sony phones to people; Ive found the long-term quality of the devices to be superior to most manufacturers.

Sony doesn’t chase fads, and I respect them for it. They haven’t started doing painted metal or foil under glass or curved screens or whatever. The side bazels are OK on current devices comparible to all other non samsung phones its just the top and bottom bazels people complain about which i actually like btw.

They could tone it down a little maybe If this was the design would be acceptable, since it’s not they are ugly. This is one of the many reasons Sony doesn’t sell a lot of phones these days.

Finally looks like a decent upgrade to my Z5 compact. The X1 compact just didn’t seem like an upgrade before especially with its lack of ip68 rating so I held off. I’ve been waiting for something like this, was even considering an iPhone Can’t wait to see actual hands on real life reviews of this.

As a sony fan, i’d say i’m kinda disappointed in the XZ1. The XZ1 Compact is an fine phone though. Not bad for a phone with flagship specs. For the design, i kinda liked the bottom volume buttons.

I like some bazels to hold phone at. The back doesnt look that grwat though. The XZ has an amazing back design. And what do you mean by colors are bad and it isnt bright? The colors are very accurate and good if its anything like perevious phones.

I dont see sony messing up displays. And if its close to XZ, it gets adiquately bright. I can use my phone in sunlight no problems. You dont need brighter screens.

Comparing to my s8, I see no difference barely noticable difference in direct comparison. So you are saying that s8 too doesnt get bright? Which phone does then? I like AP but I hate how you cover sony.

It seems like you guys have something against them. Battery optimisation and software optimisation has been great. I still have my front firing speakers. I just don’t get Sony. They can nail one or more elements of what makes a good phone and then completely screw up others.

Getting Sony phone covers is a mission. Had to go online to get a case. But I love Sony premium. Is it just me or am I the only one that likes Sony’s square bezel look on their phones?

I don’t own a Sony phone, I think they’re too overpriced for what you get, but I like the shape of their phones – just my 2 cents. Thank you, Sony, for making SMALL phones with high-end specs, I personally prefer these designs over thinner phones with stupid curved screens and shorter battery life.

I wish all phones were a centimeter thick. Maybe then manufacturers would finally pack twice as much battery as they do nowadays. Latest news Oreo 8. Hottest Hottest Latest Comments.

It’s back] Free alert: Android P initial impressions: The XZ1 is a 5. I think Ryan confused it with the XA1 Plus which has a 5. With Sony’s crazy convoluted model numbers, can you blame him?

They’re probably complaining about the lack of punchiness, though. From what little I’ve seen, I’m liking subtle changes they made to their software for Oreo. Despite the tired design, I’m very interested in upcoming reviews for the compact.

Same people who’ve bought them in the past 3 years. Can’t beat the Xperia king, the Z3 line. I’m about to buy XZ1 Compact. The sides with buttons are nice, but Plenty of people are buying it in if Sony is making profit.

But for now, I don’t need a new phone. If wifi calling works on tmobile I would consider one of these for sure. Hmm, are Pixel navbar buttons supposed to be there?

Google doesn’t own the buttons. Yeah besides, LG g6 also has those, not complete white but yeah. Google acquires vector-drawn shapes overnight. That black XZ1 Compact is sexy.

But, as everyone knows. It’s been almost the same since the Xperia Z in You mean the design language, not the hardware. The original Z launched in but whatevs.

Why is the battery so small is such thick phones? Sony’s optimizations give the devices very good battery life even with smaller capacitites. I’m really not a fan of that blocky design.

Sharp corners, you could hurt yourself with those. To me that looks dumb and wouldn’t be user friendly in landscape mode. Hey it’s sharp, not smart. Yeah to me too lol It was just a joke btw.

Yeah, I hate these opaque buttons. At least on an IPS screen they won’t burn in though. I liked the buttons in their theme. I hope they release it as a theme. Absolutely love this phone. I love album and Music apps.

Wow true, thicker phone make it feels wider too. Z5 received 2 major android updates. That seems to be what most android phones get. And that is bullshit. Can you try video out on both devices usb ports?

I used a Z5 Compact for 6 months and totally agree with the writer. If you are a Nexus user that wanted to try something smaller It was the same as stock minus the home button https:

Z2 extra in sony xperia price vacuum

If people care, you can get the lollipop theme easily from XDA forums here — http: But very dissapointed to report that my two week old Xperia Z3 has now got a bend in it, apexing at around the power button.

The bend is not uniformed and appears to have a twist raising the button side up higher at the top of the phone. I don’t put the phone in my back pocket, or is it in contact with heavy items. There are no signs of damage either.

Let us know how it goes, not sure why Telstra didn’t ELF it as it is within the 30 day period and give you a new one on the spot. They are applying for an ELF, but the tech centre or something want it first to assess if I’ve damaged it myself, as they have never seen one bend.

This is what happened to mine. After saying it was covered by warranty optus are now making me pay to repair it. I was just about to buy a XperiaZ3 and then I found this thread and others later It seems that the screen cracking issue is real and so before I buy I wanted to find out the official policy of both Telstra and SONY.

I contacted Telstra first. The business sales man did say that he knew of the reports but still Telstra would not be able to help. I then contacted SONY by website chat and was horrified that the sales person was in absolute denial.

Hi Mark, thank you for contacting Sony Xperia Care. For customer support purposes, may we please have a contact number or email address for yourself before we continue?

Thanks Mark, as outlined within our Warranty Physical damage and water ingression are not covered under the warranty, a cracked screen would fall in this category Mark: You must understand Mark, that information posted online is not a wholly reliable source.

There are enough reports that mean i am scared. If there is no offical policy then i can not buy one Jacob Harvey: The handsets are all covered by standard manufacturer’s warranty, which covers manufacturing defects and the like.

I can assure you there is no design issue that would cause glass to crack on its own. The screen is made of heat tempered mineral glass, stronger than your average window pane. Concern surrounding it would be about as founded as worrying the windows in your house might sporadically break.

It seems so far, they just deny as you are doing Jacob Harvey: I can advise that there is no known issues that would cause glass to break on any Xperia devices. Then you should search online for sony xperia z3 cracked screen and read some forums.

I really wanted to buy this phone but I can not now that I see these and sony deny it if indeed you speek an offical line Mark: I am sorry to hear that Mark. Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia care, have a great day.

So long story short. I can not feel safe buying an Xperia Z3 in Australia. This makes me feel sad because I had fallen in love with it from seeing reviews all over the place. I wanted it but now I will have to buy something else i think.

I dropped mine walking up the stairs on to the floor about 2m down with the casemate gel case and i have no issues. No cracks on the glass, no dints or bends on the aluminium. People who have been reporting issues with their phones have not been using cases.

I don’t like using cases, i prefer naked, so I am out unless SONY immediately make an official announcement of guilt and service commitment. Really, to be completely honest. This phone is billed as a flagship model and was the first to headline water and dust resistance.

Doesn’t this imply that the phone should be more robust and withstanding to the elements and general use compared to the other phones on the market? If I drop my phone and it bent or the glass cracks — it’s my fault and I’d move on with the repair options, if it bent from a drop, I’d still really question the engineering and design of the phone But still, you move on.

We’re not talking about phones being abused or dropped here though, we are talking about phones deforming or screens cracking from what would be considered normal, everyday usage. I think Telstra know more about this than they are letting on, or it could of been a random comment.

When I went into the Telstra Shop, the manager looked at it and said he’d never seen that before, BUT, mentioned that there was a void ie weak point behind the power button. I’m really worried about the screen cracking overtime, or the water resistance failing or the phone generally falling apart from being bent, and so easily.

A few videos out there doing bent tests and they don’t bend, or appear to bend from a reasonable force. I wonder if there is a bad batch, or it’s localised to the black xperia z3?

Be interesting if it’s colour related. I wonder if it is a bad batch too, not sure about colour that would be real weird Also, we need to filter out all the Z1, Z2 posts about cracks when discussing.

My screen stopped working without a visible crack just from being in a cup holder. I can’t seek service until I return from my family holiday but I will not accept anything other than replacement under warranty.

I was given this device by Telstra as part of their Mobile Insider program and I would NOT recommend anyone spend their own money purchasing one until Sony admit the problem and commit to a resolution for impacted customers.

If the thing is sealed up to make it water proof, then maybe that has the knock on effect of heat damage from the inside? Needs to be in 5mm thick latex case, and wrapped in bubble wrap with tubes to the speakers and mic’s.

Like I said, I spoke to Telstra about it and they said they would not do anything in such circumstance. Did you say how it happened? I saw YouTube video of guy trying to bend it really hard but it slightly bent and then flexed back afterwards.

The only places or scenarios the phone saw action in, was those they you’d expect a phone to be completely comfortable to operate in. It was either in my hand, or in my pants front pocket again. At this stage, I’m nervous to be even given a replacement handset.

I love the Sony phones, it’s my 3rd Xperia. They are great phones But I can’t handle a bending phone. I purchased the dual shock 4 mount for this phone last week with an eta of delivery being this week.

Just got off the phone and they told me the eta is now about 5 weeks for the product. Good thing i rang to check. I am sure you realize that it had to happen with force, it could not just warp with air flow or temperature surely.

While I believe you don’t know how, I don’t think there is anyone who would believe it didn’t happen because of something that you did, knowingly or otherwise. The thing bent, and unless it’s heat related highly doubtful, then it has to have to have been via force.

But the maximum force it would of seen would of been very short of what I would of expected to have been needed to bend the unit. It was a brand new phone, so it was still being treated like a brand new phone, not one that’s got a few scuff marks and scratches on it.

The thing is you put it in your pants front pocket. Then in some time you sat down and it happened The screen crack happens not only on Sony phones but also on Samsung phones where the big size is uncomfortably put in the owner’s pants pocket.

I’m kinda thinking if they replace it, then will they adjust me contract and replace it with a compact version. I think I only miss out on the Full HD screen? Find this an odd comment. Pretty much every review considers this quite a good to excellent phone.

Reviews are always a guide. I usually change phones every 6 months and coming from an M7, N5, Note 3 as my 3 previous handsets I can easily say this has been my favourite device. As for the self screen cracking.

Its a very very small issue. Unless of course it’s your phone that has been impacted by this not entirely rare issue. The fact that this is one of the best phones on the market, makes the failures harder to deal with.

This isn’t a functionality issue, this is issues stopping you using the phone or question the hardware engineered to support such a great experience. The phone had not been dropped. It was sent in on the 4th of November and I got it back yesterday, a turnaround time of about a month.

I was not charged for the repair, so the issue was covered under warranty by Sony. There were some tiny marks on the bottom front bezel which are no longer there, so they either replaced the whole phone or just the frame.

Both the front and back glass are also new, and had the same peel-off plastic protectors applied that the phone came with when new. I’ve learnt my lesson.

The phone is certainly not as robust as I had assumed, so now it’s got Nillkin glass front and rear, and a silicone case for good measure. These phones already had problems with random cracking that went back to the Z.

Now they used weaker material for the frame and even more problems have occured What did you have to do to get sony to fix, was it easy communication or did you make legal threats? Did you go through a Telco?

Sorry, I haven’t read every post. Just taken delivery of a Xperia Z3 compact, to replace my iPhone 4 which is faulty flash-light comes on spontaneously But, with the xperia I am getting similar signal strength, but cannot make a call that is audible at all.

I was thinking of getting a Z3 Compact but after reading here and other places online I am appalled at the way Sony is treating warranty claims due to design faults cracking, bending, waterproofing etc.

Really not impressed at all by that. I have tried setting the xperia to hcdma rather than LTE, makes no difference. For me the Z3 is almost perfect, but I haven’t bought it yet because of the issue that unlocking the bootloader to root the phone will break the camera’s low light capabilities, which is a dealbreaker for me:.

What are current owners’ thoughts about this, are you going ahead and rooting anyway? Is there a workaround? This is the reason I did not break my contract and jump to the Z3, hopefully Sony learn and improve the materials for the Z4 so I will stick with my phone until the next round of hero phones in March-April Enjoying my Z3 except for one huge issue over my previous Samsung phones.

I cannot figure out how o change this. I simple want black backgrounds and white text, so much easier on the eyes. I did go into a local Optus store and had a play around with the Z3.

Really liked it and was almost about to purchase it until I read the reviews of self screen cracking. I did further reading and found that the self screen cracking issue was not isolated, many people have reported cracking screens.

I ended up buying an S5 even though I wanted something other than Samsung this time around. Hopefully these issues are addressed by Sony when they release the Z4.

Pretty easy to draw the conclusion on the cracking screen and chassis weakness. These two issues are almost clearly directly related. The big issue, is there is no fix for this, until the Z4 is released I’d say.

There will never be a fix until Sony fundamentally changes the design of the Xperia Z series. This i doubt will happen in the short term. It was done through Fonebiz, Sony’s authorised repairer.

I was careful not to say anything other than it had cracked without being dropped. A month to rectify the problem is too long though, but it was fixed under warranty, so I can’t really complain!

I just got my replacement Z3 well I’ve had it for nearly a week but was waiting for screen protectors, I didn’t have any issues with glass cracking but my phone had serious stability issues and screen glitches.

I bought from Sony online and even though I didn’t discover the fault until a week after their DOA period had expired they still replaced it for me so I’m pretty happy with that.

Luckily, this time around, Nillikin has released their glass back cover so I managed to fit that pretty easily today the front cover hasn’t arrived yet despite order placed at same place at same time: Mine went in for repairs for pretty much the same issue.

The crack on mine went from the charging point on the side to the bottom of the phone though. It took about two weeks until my phone was ready to collect. Went to collect the phone from the Optus shop but instead of having one crack on the back it now had two.

So far I love it. Coming from a S3, this thing is brilliant. Sony Z3 Readers Choice Award: I had an LG G3 for about a month and my god that thing was laggier than my S3, and when I watch reviews and they ALL say it’s super smooth n stuff and i’m like WTF after i unlock the screen it takes a good 3 seconds for the icons to pop up and then when you swipe the screen its unresponsive for the first second.

Feel sorry for the person who bought it off me. Okay I may have jumped the gun with my positive review. I just received my first call and couldn’t hear a thing. I then called a few different numbers and discovered I basically hear nothing aside from a few muffled words, even on speaker.

Anyone have any idea of what could be wrong or any quick fix? Or is it a case of take it back and try again? The problem is back. Looks like there is no fix available atm either. I’m ‘lucky’ in that mine only occurs when on my work wifi, so I just don’t bother using the wifi at work anymore.

Works fine when on my home wifi though. Not going to hold my breath for a fix either, Sony don’t seem to recognise it as a bug. Just ordered a Z3, coming on Fri Is it a carrier problem?

Majority seem to be on the Optus network? Hope my TP Link home router doesn’t clash with the Z At work where the problem occurs, I have NFI. I’ll report back in with the outcome of the repair, hopefully won’t be next year.

Even though I waited a while they were open with me about waiting on the part, and why it was delayed. Would happily use Mobile Essentials again. So is this screen cracking thing a serious concern?

There seems to be mixed outcomes on whether this gets covered by warranty or not. It’s the only thing stopping me pulling the trigger on this phone today. Do you guys use a different app to take photo’s or use the built in app on the phone?

If so which camera app do you think is best? Have narrowed down to home wrtac as updated on other wifi and 4g is fine. Yep I’ve now figured out mine only occurs with my work wifi too.

Plus if I turn wifi off and onit works again. Im attempting to use the xperia transfer mobile app to transfer data from my 32gb iphone 5s to the new z3, but i seem to be having issues with it “dropping out” even though i have it connected via cable.

I will only allow me to transfer contacts and apps which total 30mb. Have you any suggestions on other means i could transfer these or what i might be able to do to get the xperia mobile transfer app to work?

I’ve had the same issue since I got my z3. Only way I can transfer stuff without it dropping out is with the otg cable and a usb stick. Just noticed an update available on XperiFirm Will download, flash, and report back.

If the screen of a Z3 or Z3 Compacts cracks can the phone still be used or is touch input gone too? Hi all, looks like the update I’ve installed it on both my Z3 and my wife’s Z3 compact which was also facing the same issue and the calls are now all crisp and clear when connected to both WIFI and LTE at the same time.

Also, looks like I’m getting better reception too. Do you need to unlock the BL to install these firmwares? And does it wipe the phone in the process? Nope, you don’t need to unlock the bootloader.

If you unselect ‘DATA’ from the Wipe options, your data will stay intact and it will act like an actual “update” process, rather than a complete re-flash. Check out my post here, tooch, on the Sony Talk Support Forums — http: So relieved, I’ve had thoughts of returning this phone and getting something else, but I really love this phone and my wife also just bought me a Sony XSP-N1BT head unit for my car and will go perfectly with my Z3 and her Z3c.

Just trying running an update on my Z3 using PC companion but it gave me error when it trying to download the update I tend to steer clear of using that for updates. Just got to learn how to use it.

Everyone who is having this issue, follow Huey’s instructions to update your firmware! Glad to hear it’s working for you mate! It’s a huge relief isn’t it? Finally I don’t have that feeling of “it’s a good phone, BUT I ended up doing with the bridge application for mac.

Took an hour but all my photos are there. Although the messages didn’t copy across so that parts broken. Thanks for the heads up Hueyyy. Just updated via PC companion.

Will report back re reception after a day or so. Just got an email from Sony regarding the Just got the latest update on optus, but wont let me do ota it says to connect to a computer to do the update.

Anyone find the wifi performance has gone crap since the update? It has rare spikes from time to time where it will have maximum downstream speeds but most of the time it’s almost unusable.

Apps from the Play Store takes 5 minutes to download and webpages load like While there is heavy wifi activity, my bluetooth audio streaming also stutters and skips.

Seems like a signal strength issue for both wifi and BT. Just tested speedtests while holding the phone and while leaving it on the table. I’ve been trying to work out what phone to get and I’ve been moving towards the Z3.

However, yesterday I was playing around with it in the store using the camera it came up with an error in regards to overheating. Hey guys just wondering if this is an issue with the Z3 or with Sony devices.

I’ve mostly used Samsung phones and when scrolling screens the screen would just glide left to right but with the Z3 it’s seems to miss sometimes when scrolling so you would just try again it just seems it’s not as responsive as other phones I don’t know it’s not lagging at all its weird.

I need some advice. Had my phone for 3 weeks now Battery rarely get more than 4hrs sot. I’ve restored it and repaired it a few times still no improvement. I sent it off to my telco and they claimed they couldn’t replicate the issue.

So gave it back to me. I still think i have grounds for a replacement within the month off purchase I’m keen to send it away again and be without it for another week, what can I do. The less reception bars displayed means your phone is utilizing more battery to keep a connection with the closest tower.

I have tried with and without 4g. A bit better but still the screen sucking most of the battery. Uses a percent every couple of mins screen on time it’s so frustrating watching it drop so fast.

Makes you not want to use it to get a full day out of the battery. One thing they have fixed on android 5 thankfully, selective re-install based on previous device. I’m so torn now!

I was on the verge of buying this phone until I saw the whole business about the cracked screens! Now I cant decide between the Galaxy Note 4 and its too large screen and the Z3 with its cracking screen!

Just finished playing the ps4 thru my z3, God that works flawlessly. Although I haven’t found any easy tips on how to smoothly change the ds4 to be paired either between the ps4 and z3.

Archive View Return to standard view. There’s an option in the settings about vibrant colours, etc. Have a look at that. You didn’t see my picture from a few weeks ago?

All phone screens have it. Its part of the digitizer. It’s kind of annoying me I am the Whirlpool Secretary of Perfection. It’s kind of annoying me.. I can still see it: P Okay so it is normal then: S I noticed it at the bottom as well, but not as bright.

Other than that I’m very happy with it. One site it happens for me is the mobile login screen for the 28degreescard website. Made the switch myself recently. Question for all, RE: I’m assuming that was their ‘glitch’ they had to sort out Should I buy one outright or do they not fiddle with the phones too much?

It’s easy enough to remove by flashing one of the generic firmwares from XDA. I’m assuming that was their ‘glitch’ they had to sort out I don’t believe so, i believe they were were trying to sort out the reception issues that have been reported with the Z3 on the Telstra network.

Please confirm no lag on the phone at all? Does anyone have the ‘pink spot’ which appears when taking a photo Ip5 takes better selfies. As a result, flashtool keeps asking for drivers. In answer to my question, I’ve found the answer.

Quick, give it bad reviews! Yeah I’m pretty familiar with that generation, my wife has a Z2 3. Originally it got over 8 hours screen on time, but three years on now as the battery has aged, along with updates as you say, and that has dropped quite a bit.

It’s still not bad, but probably no more than 5. Mostly I’m curious just how much a 10nm higher performance chip like the will improve efficiency. We can make some educated guesses based on S8, OP5, etc.

But Sony’s software has always been pretty good with battery life. The was built on a 28nm process, so the is nearly 3x as efficient, everything else being equal. My Zenfone 3 Zoom has a 5Ah battery, along with the efficient 14nm Snap, and I can get 15 hours screen on time give or take depending on usage all gaming is more like 10 or And by the way, the body is still only 8mm thick.

I’ve been using the Compact line since I don’t even like the Compact line but there’s no other choices. Me, i’m more fan of brick phones. But I’m more concerned about the durability, camera processing, stereo speaker quality loudness and overall performance.

It’s obvious that AOSP buttons are free for everyone. But Pixel ones aren’t. You can’t just take it out of Pixel firmware and sell it. Either Google licenses it along with GApps now, or it’s just a custom theme on screenshots, and without Assistant animation.

We’ve got more reports coming in, folks: Turns out Google has even patented the ability for people to recreate vector-drawn shapes. Unless I am mistaken those are the stock oreo buttons as well.

I think that’s a Google design feature not Sony. Of course I’m simply basing that off of Google released pictures of Android 8. I don’t have them on Nexus 5X, and the circle around Home button is there specifically for Google Assistant animation.

They’re software tream is actually pretty good. Not only are they fast with updates but the performance is actually really good. That doesn’t have anything to do with the phone being that thick with tiny batteries.

Their optimizations will give greater life with bigger batteries. It’s actually quite huge considering it’s form factor. You can have mAh but only last a day due to shitty optimization and power hungry SoC.

Funny how in that pic the phone thinks it’s in landscape see back button, though it’s oriented in portrait, as is what’s on the screen. FYI the buttons aren’t stock Android imo. Like you said they’re like the Pixel.

Usually when the phrase “stock Android” is thrown around it is set to mean Google’s Android. That is, Android as it ships on Google phones. This has been the case since the N5 or possibly even prior.

Nexus phone shipped with AOSP. There was an article a long time ago when we thought the pixel phones would be Nexus phones stating that the new Google phones were going to have extra features on top of AOSP that were exclusive to that line of phones.

Pixels have them shaded In. Nexus phones did not ship with AOSP. To many people this only because apparent after the N5 started shipping with a special non-AOSP launched the Google Now Launcher, or whatever they’ve since renamed it to, that’s why I mentioned the N5 in my previous comment.

The Z3 compact had mah only but was one of the longest lasting phones! SD with p display and mah should go a long way. What’s the deal with phones using circular icons for everything but the camera?

Essential and I think either Nokia or Moto do that as well. The camera is the only thing preventing me from buying the XZ1 Compact. I used to have a Z5 Compact and the camera was disappointing.

The dynamic range was poor and everything looked blotchy when zooming into the photo. Loved the form factor. The only modern Android phone that I could use one handed. I wish Sony would release their apps for all.

I love the Remote Play integration and their Album app is one of the nicest gallery apps I’ve seen on any phone. This looks pretty much like my Z3 Compact which was fine when it came out 3 years ago.

With a LCD screen, disabled fingerprint sensor, and stale design what made Sony think we’d want this? Motorola isn’t doing great since Lenovo bought them but at least they’re trying new phone designs.

To me that’s the appeal. I like a design that’s can stand the test of time rather than one that need a radical change every 6 months. XZ1 Compact with Snapdragon, small p display, and 2.

Curious just how good. Something like this would prefer a slightly larger screen – like 4. Maybe the upcoming Snap also 10nm, and fast storage. For anecdotal reference, the Z3 Compact had a mAh battery and a S Later on that changed because they had to remove Stamina mode, and on Marshmallow I managed to get 6 hours of the screen at most, and that was over a single day.

With the right tweaks you could probably push these phones through two or even three days of usage, but I’ve learned to live with it like I do so I don’t bother.

You need to take into account that the phones, while physically narrow, feel wide in the hand because of the straight slab design so much so that the HTC M7, for example, with a 0. Also a 5 Ah battery is pretty absurd at this size, do you want all these reviewers to go insane?

A phone over 1 centimeter? Woe is us, somebody is listening to the consumers!

Ball pool xperia z2 price extra sony in zip

Didn’t notice till you prompted me. Sony doesn’t have much of a presence in the US, but it’s still working hard to make appealing Android phones in other parts of the world. Anyone have tips for getting the most out of the camera for closeup macro type shots in low light eg. I had to do this with TPG Optus since it didn’t detect and add APN settings automatically Also change the default signature because it will say from the Telstra mobile network on outgoing emails. Sony’s had some issues with its cameras in the past, and I’m not overly confident these phones will do much to change that. Yeah, I hate these opaque buttons. As a sony fan, i’d say i’m kinda disappointed in the XZ1.

The sensors seem top notch. The bend is not uniformed and appears to have a twist raising the button side up higher at the top of the phone. Sounds like and Apple strategy.. There are no signs of damage either.

Mine does this too Will download, flash, and report back. A common complaint with the Xperia Z series, the waterproof speakers are very low in sound quality. Has anyone played with the white balance settings and got something close to accurate?

Para z2 sony in xperia extra price years

This is what happened to mine. So now that you’ve had the Z3 for a while, which one do you think stands up better to scratches, the anodized Z3 or the aluminium-insert plastic Z2? They are virtually the only company make high end “compact” phones regularly as well. I was careful not to say anything other than it had cracked without being dropped. See…
