Where is the wifi only model update Thanks for all your comments. Been looking at the Xperia Z2 tablets as a replacement for my ageing Motorola Xoom. Playing Hearthstone an hour later I realized that the corner of the screen was unresponsive. Then had to change settings in the app to get it to store there. I had tried those in the past and MX player was great, but then nothing worked!

Unfortunately QLD is a bit too far for me! For anyone keen to see display stock in NSW, apparently the stores in Bondi Junction and Elizabeth St have them on display Telstra sales rep told me on the phone.

Not a deal breaker but can be annoying. Also fleabay delivered, Picked mine up from Telstra yesterday outright with a case and the dock. Funny you should mention that, I have the Z1 and it seems to have developed the same “problem” by this I mean that I seem to have only noticed this happening in the past 2 or 3 weeks — it does not always seem to happen, which as you say can be annoying.

I wonder if this happens with every Xperia Z1 or Z2 tablet. I had minor touchscreen issues with another tablet and it drove me nuts until semi fixed in later firmware.

Anyone seen these in Sydney retailers yet? Very light, the screen is beautiful even with less pixels than most competitors. Anyone have a link to the cashback site? Also, looking for suggestions for screen protectors to stop the amazing fingerprint magnet syndrome.

Lord this thing is a fingerprint magnet. Finally, its very weird how it boots into recovery after first selecting language leading to minor heart attack, then reboots again and you have to select language again theres a youtube video for this confirming.

Yeah I thought was cheap too. Was expecting to pay like the sign said. But no definitely Telstra is selling for outright. Picked up the 16gb WiFi from JB. Sure is fiddly getting the charger cover open.

Thinking of a charger stand but they are pretty expensive. There are plenty on Ebay but it is hard to tell how good they are. Figured it out, works in portrait. Notice in landscape the font is already at the zoomed in size when portrait.

Works fine according to xda. New update is out: My last tablet charged 2amp through microusb. Also my blackberry playbook charged 1. Seems odd they gave us a 1. Even the smallest print I have seen is incredibly sharp and readable.

However the reflectivity can get annoying after a while when reading a book on the screen. I wonder if a screen protector would reduce the reflectivity without degrading the picture or the touch performance.

I have to say that good YouTube videos look fantastic. Using 2 amp charger. So almost 3 hours to fully charge. Any idea if it could take more than 2 amp considering MHL 3. Where is the wifi only model update LTE users got several already!

It can definitely take 2a through that port. Here is charge with 1. Also, swiftkey is the same. I have had the tablet for a week and am seriously impressed. The screen is fantastic, the weight or lack thereof and balance is excellent and the battery life in stamina mode is ridiculous.

I also love that USB otg works right out of the box, as did plugging in my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. There are a couple of problems that are pretty well known such as the touch screen sensitivity, and delayed audio in some games.

Hopefully these are fixed in the update that is slowly rolling out. So is there any way I can move my apps to an SD card without rooting my device? Google has let me down, I have always been an advocate for Android but no more!

The results are quite surprising. From the 12 cables I tested, I got three different piles categorised by charge speed. I used battery monitor to get the results. I compared against a standalone 1.

A samsung U2 cable and a Blackberry cable. Magnetic seemed more stable rate though. Cable length had no impact. With the Nokia cords, I have one that is only 5cm long whereas the others are about 40cm.

They charged at exactly the same rate. By the way, made my own mag cable: You can see in that photo it has ma coming in. It was using about ma before I plugged it in. Basically you need a powered adaptor.

Someone advised that the Samsung adaptor might not work. Shame Sony sales could not give any helpful advice. This is one place. Can someone please explain how to download and then view movies offline eg in aircraft using Video Unlimited?

Is that even possible? PS this is my first android and seem to be floundering. Question about Hangouts ; our xperia is wifi only. Have been trying to make phone calls using hangouts with absolutely no success.

It either seems to ring a number which never answers, or it asks to send an invite to the contact. It then promptly advises that an invite cannot be sent. Does anyone have experience with hangouts on the z2 tablet with wifi only?

We have a chromebook and hangouts works really well. Has anyone rooted their Z2 yet? I want to download and play XCOM but at 3. Ok, so I have just got the Z2 tablet. Just plugged in wifi tablet, and the I owned Motorola xoom and Asus transformer before, then I stick with nexus tablet.

I bought this for my Z2, but a small mod will be needed as the speakers are now on the front of the device. Like the idea of the hard plastic keys as well, instead of those dreadful rubber ones.

Can someone tell me which ones I am limited to and perhaps which ones are better to get? If it makes any difference, I would use it to store video files, so the bigger the capacity the better.

Just hoping for clarification on this. Some Googling and reading around has got me nowhere. I can tell you that I have a 64gb micro sd xc that works fine aside from my obvious issue with Google messing with the SD card access.

I received my Z2 yesterday, and seem generally happy with it. The only thing that is possibly questionable on mine, at least, is the build quality. If held in the left hand to use right handed the problem is not there?

Has anyone else had problems with the Youtube app after the There was a Youtube app update today but same issue. Tried clearing the app cache and data, no luck. Has anyone in Tasmania managed to purchase one outright from Telstra via a Telstra Shop around Devonport or Launceston?

I need a keyboard for my Xperia z2, do you need an offical one? Or is it possible to buy another blutooth keyboard? Can you get 3rd party magentic keyboards that fit?

This one is standalone bluetooth. I created the first one earlier on. This new one works on latest firmware though. I suggest using this new one. Do you know if the TA backup script works as well?

IF so could be the green light to finally titanium, flash, unlock and CWM: What apps2sd solution are people using? My Z2 LTE is being sent back for repair. At least from what others have said here.

Has anyone got Netflix working on theirs? I have unblock us set up fine so I can get onto Netflix but when I go play a video it says my device is not compatible.? Do you mean popcorn time?

Theres no app for Netflix that I can find — I may be having a blonde moment here. Sony appears to have worked hard in the past couple of years to produce hi specced and subjectivley good looking devices.

The Z2 tablet I bought satisfied all my requiremets, all the others falling short in one area or another.. Its not enough to make me send it back, as it lives in a keyboard case, and am hoping the less than responsive compared to samsung touchscreen will be rectified soon.

My point is that Sony is going to shoot itself in the foot if they dont tighten up on quality issues. Does anyone know if a Z2 case will fit a Z1 tablet? There is on 0.

Z2 owners, where did you buy your tablet from? Hi all, I just got me one of these 16gb Wifi Version, Just a couple of things i wanted to ask and vent about, Bought it from JB, they dont have any accessories for it I bought the official sony charger dock.

Not happy with it. I would get it uber cheap or not at all. Anyone gotten Netflix working on theirs? Have a look for the non Sony branded Xperia Z2 tablet docks on eBay. Looks like the first one the tablet could slip fwd from the bottom toward you depending on how strong the magnet is, I guess.

The charging mechanism is driving me insane. I had docks with my old XZ phone and forgot how annoying it is lol even with magnetic tips. I did it before but now I forgot where to find it. I had a look at the Z2 at JB.

How are other people finding it in terms of being to fragile or bendy? It was to replace my GS Note FYI my tablet received build This is the firmware they should have launched with.

Aside from minor build quibble, the only downside is that the water resist flaps do make charging a PITA being a former XZ phone owner I should have seen this one coming Having said that, I have no idea how fast it charges.

Can anyone comment on Micro USB speeds vs charging dock speeds? The sony reader needs to be recharged from a computer or from a sony wall charger and is a pain when travelling. I can buy a 16GB sd card for a few bucks and put it in a 16GB for same storage and quite a saving.

They also had the cases so I got one of them while I was at it. Am impressed with the tablet so far, although still much to learn. Does anyone know if there is a third party video playing app that supports throw to tv etc?

After playing with it for a few days, am fairly impressed. Worked fine from both, will be good when I travel as I have a 4 port usb charger which I can use with this and my phone without having to carry an extra charger.

Only one negative so far. Would it have been too difficult to put the earphone jack on the side of the device instead? I have oily fingers and the back of the tablet is smudges, any clue on how to clean it.

I wash mine under gently running tap water using dish washing liquid Morning Fresh or similar to get oily finger marks off the back as well as cleaning the screen. It works like a charm.

What you are calling “throw” is support for DLNA remote playback render devices. If you use that as your search term in the play store you will get several hits, hopefully one of which will meet your needs.

Have found that pulling down the main menu and selecting screen mirroring shows whatever is on the screen of the tablet onto the tv, but I have to turn on screen mirroring on the tv first.

Another query, has anyone matched it up with sony noise cancelling headphones? In the tablet manual that I downloaded from Sony, on page 38 it talks about some settings for noise cancelling headphones, these supposedly within sound effects menu.

Anyone had any luck with this? I finally jumped in getting a 16gb WiFi version with some accessories for a deal at JB. Got the Sony case from Telford who have it in stock Melbourne concept store.

The Z2 tablet is a fraction lighter than the iPad Air. The only problem with the tablet is that the camera is trash compared to the iPad Air. Other than that, the Z2 has a better battery life and connectivity in terms of the micro usb port and the expandable micro sd card slot and its also water resistant and dustproof rated at IP The Z2 tablet takes micro sim, while the iPad Air takes nano sim.

Both devices are great to use, but it depends on what apps you are using I only use the iPad for hearthstone and civilisation revolution 2. What most people are interested about buying the z2 tablet is the ps4 remote play function which should be available late next month.

Thanks for the reply mate, im really over apples restrictions and being stuck with iTunes. Same reason I bought the Sony. I also like the fact that I have access to the file system on android, just by plugging into my computer, and can put just about any files I want on it mainly photos, videos and music in my case without having to mess around with iTunes.

Am watching a lot of movies on the Sony and it will play quite a few hours of movies before it goes flat. The resolution of the screen is very good, although not quite as high as some other tablets, the pictures still look great.

As I have an android phone, it had to be an android tablet for me. It was quick to set up and easy to download all the apps I had already installed on the phone that I wanted on the tablet.

Got around this by buying the magnetic charging cable from gadgets for geeks which attaches to the bottom of the tablet near the microphone socket both of which are then on top when I turn it upside down.

The magnetic charge cable also has the advantage of you not having to remove the waterproof cover on the usb port to charge it, so well worth getting. I put in a 32Gb micro sd too, so save all photos, music and videos to that rather than use up the 16G of internal memory.

One downside is that with Android 4. Earlier Android versions allowed you to transfer apps to the external card, making this a cheap way to expand your memory. If I want to go on a long trip and take lots of movies, photos and music I can stick them on a usb stick and plug this into the other end of the cable instead of swapping a micro sd card in and out, which would make a bit of a mess of some of the locations that some of the apps save to.

Having said all this, I am happy with mine and much prefer it over the ipad I had. Also it can remotely control my TV, so when the wife puts the remote somewhere inconvenient, or insists on watching some soppy chick flick I can use the tablet instead to change channels!

It will also throw videos from the tablet to the tv screen if you set it up. Am going to experiment a bit more with this when I get time. Might be worth grabbing a pair of bluetooth headphones.

They work great with both the tablet and the phone. I like the sbh50 since you can plug in any headphone you like. I read in a review somewhere that if you use sony noisecancelling headphones which I do there is supposed to be options in the settings to indicate the type of noise eg airplane that you are cancelling and then the tablet works with the headphones to improve the cancellation effect.

The review was from an overseas site, so perhaps overseas models have the feature and lucky oz misses out again. Hey guys, now that this thing seems to be on special everywhere im looking at getting my first tablet.

Questions, in regards to the Android Store, will all the apps i have purchased on my Moto X be compatible? To fill 16gb with apps is a LOT. Being more selective about apps and not keeping unused apps around certainly helps.

After all, the SD card really is best just for data storage. I think there is a new version z3?? What have you seen it priced at and where? You are correct, although it would be good to still have the choice.

In one case I had to make a special folder with a particular name on the SD card and then load that folder with some files before the app would recognise it. Then had to change settings in the app to get it to store there.

Would be nice if all apps were coded well enough to set this up themselves Anyone had any issues with these on arrival? Can someone just confirm that Twitch works for me: For most people back when it was released – it was this tablet or the Samsung Tab Pro I picked this because its cheaper, lighter, has 3gb ram and NFC, 2 year warranty compared to the Tab Pro The Tab Pro I got over this by buying a 3rd party case on ebay.

The plastic cradle that the tablet sits in can spin, so I just spin it around with the headphone socket at the top. By the by, I just bought this tablet a week ago, after loaning my Samsung Galaxy Tab to my son for his travels.

Very happy with the Purchase. I got the 16gb wifi version, so will have to get an sd card. Still cant believe how great this thing feels in the hand too. I think there are 2 versions of the Z3, one is compact, the other full size.

Not sure what the difference between the full size Z3 and the existing Z2 is. Pretty sure there is no 10″ z3 tablet. Sorry was getting a bit mixed up between phones and tablets, what happens when you rely on your memory.

This tablet has same resolution x as the z2, but on a smaller screen, so pixel density is greater. There are a few other small differences between the two tablets. There are reports of a 12″ tablet coming next year.

Could someone please tell me the best video format for this tablet? Not on playstore, get it from XBMC website. Been looking at the Xperia Z2 tablets as a replacement for my ageing Motorola Xoom.

Would appreciate opinions as to whether most of the earlier problems with these have been resolved with software updates, in particular the non responsive touch screen issue.

Had a look at the 16gB model in JB Hifi today and noticed that the touch screen was a real pain to use, it was almost ignoring the rubber tipped stylus I was using. The display tablet had 4.

I think I prefer the Z2 over any of the Samsungs, mainly on account of the more minimal tweaking of of Anroid that Sony have adopted rather than the serious bloat of the Samsungs.

Most of the 3rd party app players seem to handle just about anything, it is a matter of finding one that has the sorts of features you find important. I have the 16Gb bought from JB a couple of months ago.

I did have an update soon after I bought it, my current version is 4. Internet speed via wifi seems to be just as good as my phone and laptops that connect to the same router.

I have wifi only version, have had a few sony app updates in the last couple of days walkman and a few other sony apps but no sign of an update to 4. At the moment it is still showing 4. Not sure if I have to do something to get the 4.

Typical, 10 minutes after posting I get a message on my tablet announcing the update. Have to connect to computer though, what a pain! Thanks for your thoughts Charles, I have noted in your other posts that you are a happy camper with the Z2.

Be interested to hear of any experiences with a stylus with this tablet. I must have fat fingers and a stylus lets me hit links more precisely. Does your modem connect with wireless “N” or “AC” , 2.

Considering that most tablets can utilise AC nowadays I would assume that browsing speeds should be much faster than my old Motorola. Again I would like to hear any comments re browsing.

Using a stylus is fine, but might be difficult for those that would like to draw or sketch because of the pressure points. Another Q re Xperia Z2 — I read on the Sony web page a “customer review” stating that the screen is virtually unresponsive when the charger is plugged in.

Can anyone confirm this, could be a bit of a nuisance. And occasionally you might get a malfunction chip, RAM or something which sort of works but has hiccups, or you might have some dodgy software running in the background chewing up your CPU.

Sometimes you just get bad luck. It is a netcom n, 2. PS — how did your 4. Took about an hour, but about 40 minutes of that was downloading the update onto my computer before plugging in the tablet.

There was a bit more downloading onto the actual tablet, but all seemed to work ok first time. As others have said, the icons are larger, so I took them down a size to medium. I have a set of Sony noise cancelling headphones and I read a review somewhere before I bought them about a month ago stating that on the tablet you could select the type of noise you wanted cancelled.

Perhaps this is only a feature of overseas models, but why they would exclude it from Australia, who knows. There are a few things in different places on the main screen, all the google aps have been put into a small folder not that I use half of them!

Thanks for all your comments. Regarding the customer review on the Sony website, that was dated March or April so would have been just after the release when everyone was complaining about the touch screen issues.

I have a vague recollection of there being an update a few months ago that people were reporting had improved their touch issues. I am interested in this one. Is it a good price and has anyone bought this tablet from Kogan before?

Easy enough for Aus stock but something to think about for a grey import item. In my experience dodgy charge adapters cause this on all sorts of touch devices.

I have it on iphone as well and have seen it on my Z2. Still a big difference to Kogan. Not bad considering local retailer pricing and I got 5gb to use between my phone and tablet which is plenty.

All updated to 4. When I go to recent apps there is now a favourites bar with small apps at the botom of the screen. This just appeared out of nowhere. How the heck do you remove it? Actually I might try a restart as well.

This has always been there on my Z2. I thought I was in the z2 phone thread. I did prefer the old interface though, it feels like they just slapped the phone interface onto the tablet. At Hardly Normals in Townsville.

Walked in and asked young sales bloke what was best price he could do. Been wondering why the battery life was so poor. Same here, this update has been nothing but disappointment for me on both my phone and tablet.

Cape Town – Sony has addressed the disappointment of fans who expected the company to launch a Z4 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress. Fans had widely expected the company to launch the premium Z4 smartphone in line with the launch of the Z3 range at the top gadget show.

The company instead had launched the Z4 Tablet and M4 Aqua. While the upcoming Z4 smartphone will no doubt find expression in the Z4 Tablet, the Aqua is no slouch either. Though the Aqua is marketed as a mid-range device, it boosts an octa-core bit Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a mAh battery that Sony claims runs for two days on a single charge.

But despite the fact that the Aqua is also waterproof like the Xperia Z3, Fenzel said the longer flagship production cycles mean that fans will only get to see the expected Z4 later in the year.

However, he remains bullish about the M4 device, saying that it is a game changer for lower cost smartphones in SA and emerging markets. I submerged the device in a container filled with water while a movie was playing.

The group of people who watched me with shock and horror, had a look of disbelief when I took the tablet out the water to reveal no water damage and the movie still playing.

The device can go one meter underwater for 30 minutes. Truthfully though, it is designed to withstand spills and splashes and not built for underwater photography enthusiasts.

Sony has used this feature as a unique selling point, and has also incorporated this in their Xperia Z smartphones. This is very much a media consumption device. The problem is that this vault of incredible content is not yet available to South African consumers.

Sony said they are working on licensing, and told me that these services will be available soon. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is a great device that is beautifully built and definitely one of the best tablets out there.

Used sony my whole life now im dissapoint ed! After a few months, I decided to formally lay a complaint. I searched for contacts within the Sony Mobile Group and made contact with them.

I drafted an e-mail, sent it, and was contacted within one day. I explained my frustratio n with the phone and that I was extremely unhappy with the purchase I had made. Was I pleasantly surprised!

Sony Mobile replied that this was unacceptab le and that they were going to send me a new cellphone, the Sony XA1 Ultra, with a cover for the phone. Within two working days, it was couriered to my company premises and I must admit, I have not looked back since.

I am extremely impressed with the quick response and feedback that I received. My Z5 is full of rubbish bloatware both from Sony and Vodacom. When selecting not now its straight back to the home screen.

I really hope this is a bug. How do I access my applications without agreeing with you selling my info??!! You guys really have to get your customer service up to par! Bought the XZ premium a few weeks back.

Great phone, only problem is there are no covers available for it, so my new expensive phone it getting scratched. Sony support was not able to help me. And I am still waiting for Sony Mobile Za to get back to me with a solution.

Sony phones are the worst when it comes to storage, after owning the first one having storage problems, I still liked Sony after owning 2nd one and having same This phone is useless to me.

I have a Sony M5 that was handed in November which was supposed to be returned to me yesterday but has yet to be logged. I have logged a complaint on your website and i have contacted the call centre multiple times with no avail.

I have spoken to Andrew, Nozipho and Lefa from the Roodeport call centre and no one could be of assistance. On more than one occasion, no managers were able to assist me. Is this the service we should be expecting from one of the leading brands in the world?

My phone is 6 months old and completely defective. I drove from Mozambique to get this sorted out and you are wasting my time. I leave the country in two days and my phone is yet to be logged!

Please get back to me with some feedback. Can anyone please tell me how long we must still wait for the nougat update on xperia xa here in South Africa please. It was released in UK on 16th June already.

I have waited for about 2 weeks for a response from Sony regarding my Sony M4 Aqua phone continuous ly restarting. I see from the comments that we all have the same problem and it happens just after a year and a half.

Is that a coincident. If it were just me only then I can understand that I would have been that one in a million that bought a defective phone from Sony. Can Sony do anything to Justify what is happening and regain the trust of the Sony fans???

It looks like you may be having problems playing this video. If so, please try restarting your browser.

Bought the M4 aqua last year and its actually just a mediocre phone, not midrange as I thought. Just the very next month the m5 came out and im stuck with the m Now its difficult to update apps because of space, even after clearing cache and moving apps to SD.

Got a few random restarts so far but not too bad. Wish Sony would just upgrade me to m5 so that im not stuck with the space issue: Will never ever buy a phone with so little internal memory again.

Had the z5 premium from mtn. Rubbish support from Sony. Do not ever buy their devices ever. Supposedly ip68 went in a kiddies pool for less than 30 minutes and it’s not working.

Sony didn’t even open the Fone and just said it’s beyond economic repair. Looking to upgrade to xz1. Nobody have stock but sill advertisin g phones as if the are available. Used sony my whole life now im dissapoint ed!

Sony was at pains to point out that the front facing selfie camera is rated at 5 megapixels and has a wide angle lens. As expected for Sony smartphones, it is powered by the Google Android Lollipop 5.

The device sports a capless earphone and charging jack, which means that there is less likelihood of damaging the waterproof ports. It is likely that the Xperia Z4 smartphone will be launched in conjunction with a movie tie-in to the latest James Bond film, Spectre.

The M4 Aqua will build on the M2 precedent. The latter device sells for around R4 , significantly cheaper than the Z-series and competitively priced against devices like the Samsung Galaxy A5.

I may have spoken too soon! Got a few random restarts so far but not too bad. Current one seems to still be around retail. I copied the above from the website. It also has developed this strange and irritating habit of turning the screen on by itself whenever full — turn it off and a few seconds later it turns itself on again i. I did prefer the old interface though, it feels like they just slapped the phone interface onto the tablet.

Thanks for the reply mate, im really over apples restrictions and being stuck with iTunes. Turn on Smart lock Google Go back to settings and there will be a smart lock option, tap this. This is the Tablet Z2 thread. Then again, RRP applies only for the first few months, just like galaxy note when it got released.

On more than one occasion, no managers were able to assist me. I had it on charge through the day so that should be OK. I spoke to someone at xperia support who I assume was a work experience placement from how unprofessional they were who suggested I drop it off at fonebiz for repair. Hello, thanks for the reply.
