I just happened to be using it inside the house where is was a nice 22 degrees, Melbourne Winter time, went outside for a cigarette at around 1am. Anything different from the norm like 3. The crack how ever is not just a single crack. Well, it is a rubbish car. Who cares about a boring subject, or bland composition.

Can you please suggest me which phone to go with in this range? Har Preet says 7 years ago. Then, finally came to rest on top of the drainage gate, with the large slits. For me, it matters not, I’m with Telstra anyway. Not bad for a nearly 4 year old phone. Further, you can check if your phone is compatible with VR Headset by following these steps.

Sony can almost piss off at this time. Just had my phone returned from Vodafone saying physical damage and not covered by warranty. Just fine cracks from top right to bottom left.

They will then give you instructions on how to return it by post. If they consider the complaint genuine they will fix it or replace the phone for free. This is what I did and I just got a new phone.

Sony ignores it also. Sony are fixing my hairline crack in digitizer. SBE initially produced a quote for repair but I emailed Sony support and made a very strong point of stating that they were fixing other customers phones with very similar problems, so why not mine?

I had the misfortune to buy the Xperia Z just a month ago and my advice to anyone reading this and considering buying 1 is simple….. I admit I dropped my phone while sitting at my desk and the fall of less then 10 inches cracked the screen and rendered the phone unusable…..

I did not expect Sony to fix it under warranty but was not prepared for what came next……. I had to post it to their repair centre, an unrelated company called SBE Limited and though I registered the delivery as advised by Sony they claim it took 5 days to arrive.

They would not issue a quote for the cost of its repair via email and insisted on posting the quote to me which took a further 5 days to arrive This is though they claim it would be repaired and back in my hands in working days.

Apparently if you break the screen the phone has to be disassembled and you are then charged for a replacement case, a replacement battery, a replacement ear piece, a replacement display and a new flex.

Apparently this is all necessary to ensure the water resistant feature of the phone……. They did not return my calls. They do not appear to answer their phones!!! I said I would happily waive the 2 year warranty for the water resistant feature of the phone if the screen were just repaired and the other parts not replaced but they refused…..

I then asked if it was really necessary replace all of these parts that if I paid the sum quoted could I have the old parts back as a souvenir of my carelessness. This was also refused.

They informed me that under the terms of their warranty which I had offered to waive any parts or components replaced become their property. Therefore, no evidence is provided, save the word of their contractor SBE Limited, that the parts were actually replaced for the cost stated.

The Sony staff, though polite, were not at all helpful and are completely inflexible when dealing with repairs. The phone in my opinion is far too fragile for daily use and I would not hesitate in advising anyone considering purchasing the Xperia range to ask some serious questions of their seller.

If only I had………. I am not and have not sought a free screen replacement under warranty for what I accept was my own carelessness. However, surely you would agree a modicum of scrutiny is exercised in asking Sony questions over their necessity to replace all of the items they listed…..

If every phone requiring a cracked screen be replaced is to be stripped of the parts listed to me then Sony will have a workshop full of those functionally equivalent units they refer to stripped from the units of people like me.

One only needs to read the blogs on here to have that opinion endorsed. Please post on this, the complaint is under my name senga anita Blackmore and is on the left hand side of the page.

The problem is over heating, no matter if its in your pocket, hand bag, jacket pocket or as for some mearly charging the batteries on a counter top. I have fought for 3 weeks via the phone calling the shop that provided the the phone right up to Sony, I have been provided with a new phone from the shop under the consumer protection that the goods must be fit for purpose, and a phone that breaks in less than 5 days is not fit for purpose.

As a foot note, I will never buy another Sony product of any kind as a way of protest, their customer service have been trained to deny any problem and no one wanted to take ownship of the problem and bring it to reslolution!

Stated that I had just pulled it out of my pocket and there is no physical damage to the casing. I escalated my issue within Sony and the SBE the UK repairer, I quoted all of the blogs and the online petition and my disappointment with the phone and the service and just received the following email from SBE: In regards to the forums you have mentioned below, these are not official Sony output, just user forums, and therefore we cannot utilise these as part of the repair service offered.

Since this quotation was raised; a new product criteria has been passed to the repair centre from Sony, I have had a second opinion requested and your unit fit with these new policy, for it to be repair within the Sony warranty and with no fee required.

I have advised the repair line and the repair will now commence within the warranty, hopefully this will be processed and return within the next 5 working days. Can anyone confirm that Sony will indeed fix the screen, and if so, how did you get the ball rolling to get it fixed?

But the service center guys are saying that even if it has just a single crack or full cracked screen, it will be covered in accidental warranty only for phones build in September or October or after.

Initially they cam back and said it was damaged by me and I would have to pay for the repair. I went back to both Sony and SBE to escalate the issue quoting the numerous blogs and petitions and then the next day I got notification from SBE that their had been an updated product criteria for repairs and it would be fixed free of charge under warranty.

I have a Z1- it lasted 4 days before the crack in mine was there. Took it out my pocket and there it was. Sony Centre in Tottenham court road tried telling me it was my fault. Brand new phone and completely unusable because the phone will not function properly now.

My Z1 lasted 4 days before this crack appeared. Took my phone out my pocket and there it was. Brand new phone rendered useless and been told I have to pay for the repair. Need to get more info on this warranty issue?

Repair certain cracked displays for Xperia Z http: Even if the phone was offered free, as part of continuing or upgrading your contract, the product itself must be fit for purpose. During the first 6 months of ownership, the product is considered faulty from day one, unless proven otherwise, after 6 months, the onus is on the consumer to prove it was inherently fault or has a design flaw.

Obviously this only applies to retail purchases only, not private sales. I am too having the same problem. Is there any alternative? Sony are repairing mine under warranty — the crack looks exactly like the pics.

Vodafone refused the repair however, so they need to update their policy. Feeling extremely disappointed on purchasing sony….. Moreover, my crack lies under warranty even then they are not giving a satisfactory response.

The biggest mistake i ever did in my life was to believe on such a company who after getting money never look back. My words for Sony – you guyzz have cheated us and mind it you will repent, neither i, nor my friends or other relatives would buy any product of yours, only then you will understand our problems.

Sony xperia z1 screen replacement: Hi my phone was in my pocked on new years day and I even have nice cover to protect it but I pulled my phone out of my pocket and I had one single hairline crack that made the phone unusable.

They told me it was physical damage and does not go under warranty. Obviously I am not the only person with this problem but what can I do. I can not afford that kind of money on top of what I have already payed.

My xperia z front glass was damaged and upper half of the screen touch is not wroking my handset is in warranty but when i go to the nearest xperia service center they are asking INR…..

Indian Rupees for repairing it out. Please help me out on this matter and tell me where i should go to resolve the issue….. Please help me out on this matter and tell me where i should go to resolve the issue.

Where can i get the phone repaired without paying the amount because my phone is in warrenty period. Have a great question. Do you have a phone with a display device Xperia Z cracked the side of the microphone.

Only a hairline crack, but not affecting the work. The official Iten Service Hungary has informed me that this error is not under warranty. My question would be the following.

If this news is true refer to it, perhaps looking to Iten official sony center? I have got the same issue. My phone did not fall nor did suffer andy physical damage and all of a sudden the screen is broken.

Its the exact same single crack as mentioned above. Can someone here divert me to the right contact to get my phone fixed. You can let me know elroymoras28 gmail.

I have an insurance thank god. I, ve just experienced it for the 4th time it isnt just ons phone, i say stay far dat away from every type of screen with tampered glass, te production proces is in my opinum bad, i will ndver buy Sony phones again.

Typing this ony s2,. SONY did not actually fix the phones. It just repared a few, so it could claim that the rest of users witht he issue were fakers. What a shitty company. Sony Xperia South Africa are playing dumb by saying I am the first to report the spontaneous self cracking screen….

Other than the screen problems both phones are good but because Xperia worldwide are ignoring the problem I will never buy a Sony phone again. They seriously need to get their act together.

I have the z ultra and I love the phone its been absolutely perfect for the past 4 months but recently had in my pocket while working and pulled it out and crack from top to bottom.

I have a sony xperia z and only have had it for less than 3months.. Hello, I would like to know if someone do the repair at an authorized Sony Centre for the touch screen broken not LCD if so, how has cost you for repairs?

Thank you very much! I have the new Z1C and it has happened to me. There was no logically explanation as to why it was cracked and I even had a friend with me as susprised. I have escalated this to Phones4U and Sony and am awaiting a response.

I have asked Sony to respond to my broken screen. If they will not fix it, then this is my first and my last Sony phone. I found my xperia z diaplay broken when i put it out of my pocket…screen is still working touch is fine but the display shows small cracks….

I had the exact problem, my phone was on charge on my desk next to me, as i picked it up it was overheating so i removed the power cable, as i attempted to unlock the phone the screen wouldnt work, i then switched the phone off thinking it was to do with the excess heat and on switching the phone off i noticed 2 hair line cracks coming from the same origin.

What can I do? My display for Sony Xperia L has a similar single crack on its display. The crack appeared on its own. On approaching the sony service center, they say, they do not cover it under warranty and demanded Rs.

The phone is just 6 months old. Pl do not tell me to go to service centre, I have already visited them, they say that warranty is for purchase after 15 th sep. I feel cheated, I have been using sony devices for long time…I never had incurred a problem like before….

This is not acceptable, Pl respond. I bougth the Sony phone because all trusted there product and service ….. My Z1 randomly cracked when i woke up in the morning. I contacted Sony and inquired about the warranty and after jumping through a few CS representatives I got to a supervisor who said that depending on the crack and general condition of the phone it will or will not be covered.

So i sent it in over 2 weeks ago and have not got a response yet. Hoping for good news! Yep, had mine a month. Took it out of my pocket and noticed the screen was not responding quickly.

I thiught it was just a hiccup in the software for a second. Took it out of my pocket later and the lock screen was unresponsive. Then i noticed a couple of hair like cracks leading from a small spidering area.

This glass is so weak that it will crack if its in your back pocket. I have owned several similar phones and never had a cracked screen. Based in Durban South Africa…….. I have never dropped the phone nor has it been badly handled that this would have happened.

Over and above this, there is also not a single mark on the screen nor the phones body at all. You cannot even feel the crack with your nail when you run your finger over it and it appears to be on the inside….!

If I still have no joy, I will make a you tube video of what the phone looks like brand new except for the cracked non-functional screen, then I will take a 4 pound hammer and smash it to pieces…..

I am so disgusted with Sony it makes my blood boil. I had the same case today!! Hi, I got the same problem with a brand new Xperia Z1 Compact: And all this happened within 24 hours of getting the device.

I just sat with my laptop to get the phone installed the way I want. Took some pictures, shot some film, send some messages and made a few shot calls. I have simliar issues… The screen cracked for no reason and the service centre refuse to repair my phone.

But now that i found this post, the chances of my phone getting repaired under warranty increased slightly hehe thanks: They replaced my screen when it was 7 months old, then they replaced the screen and battery2 weeks later after it cracked again.

I went to the sony centre, and they said that no warranty for that and the cost to repair that single crack is RM I have been informed by a Danish repair shop that Sony does indeed acknowledge the single crack issue.

However the problem is that this single crack often turns in to several cracks before you notice even the single crack. I did face this issue but ultimately my phone was repaired free of cost, the reason for free repair was a very long delay from customer service not the warranty.

Also its incorrect to have warranty if screen has a single crack in my case where screen shattered near camera and then there was a diagonal long crack till the tip of the screen. I failed to understand how could screen crack like this as it was in well protected leather case.

I had same problem in xperia z.. I went to the servicing centre.. My Xperia Z developed more than one crack on the screen. It was perfectly fine when I went to bed, next morning woke up and found the cracks.

The phone was never dropped! Vodacom and Sony are refusing to repair the phone under warranty. I am very disappointed as the phone is expensive and to lose it a few months after purchase due to manufacturers fault is really unacceptable.

I have a Z1s C and my screen is cracked, from left to right in the middle across the screen. What is the average cost to get it repaired? Also does it use the same screen as the Z1?

I had my Experia Z in my pocket and pulled it out and half the screen stopped working, it took me some time to realise the screen had a hairline fracture that looked like it was behind the glass.

I rang my carrier in Sydney and they said send it to them because they can fix things under warranty and so I did. I googled it and found your blog and rang back and told them I wanted it back because it was a design fault and Sony should repair it under warranty.

Keep up the good work! I just suffered this issue. I mentioned that I knew otherwise this site and he laughed and said that the internet says what it wants. I asked for a team leader and he refused. I asked again for his name and he hung up.

That is sony customer service for you! The phone is completely inoperable and only a month old. Sony Australia are scammers. Hello, I have Xperia Z Ultra just bought it 3 months ago.

I found not even single scratch in casing, but the screen got crack. And the worst is, the touchscreen suddenly not working!.. Please How can I deal with this? Moreover I explored this over the internet and found its common problem and happened with other users of the phone S.

After 3 weeks f chasing they said they had not received it, I had to provide proof of shipping etc. I asked for a second opinion as was not satisfied.

Received the phone back last week — it now has a much larger crack! I complained to sony, they said I should get in touch with the courier I used. Unfortunately, because they took so long to send it back, I cannot put in a claim.

Sony say its not their problem. Very disappointed, an ugly experience. I had a similar misfortune with my Xperia E dual which is just 10 months old. There is no external damage however the display is not working and is just giving a white screen with a dark spot at the top.

I took it to the authorized Sony service center and they refused to cover it under warranty as it is physical damage to hardware. What kind of hardware engineering has gone into this mobile?

Even if there was an unseen impact to the screen, how is it that the display got damaged and the exterior is intact? I really feel that Sony has no intention to make lasting phones and hence have flooded the market with cheap stuff at Sony price.

They are in a race to get the market share without focus on quality hardware engineering. Can it be replaced free of cost? Hello i recently purchased A sony xperia Z three months ago and yesterday i had it in my back pocket running errands.

Not one crack but a bunch. I am pounds and there is no since of my phone only having one crack. What could i do about the situation. I am heart broken i just got the phone and refuse to pay for a screen.

I will try my best. I get a new phone. The screen its broke again. Yes and no, Sony Australia refuse to recognize this problem and are fucking all of their customers over.

If you have a self cracked phone dont give up trying to get it repaired under warranty. After around 4 months id developed a crack from around halfway down the side to the bottom.

She said this happened whilst it was charging. The phone would no longer respond to touch. To be fair, the phone was in pretty poor condition. She hadnt fitted a case, didnt have a screen protector, was covered in scratches and had signs of impact on the top edge.

There was also a crack in the back glass. They sent it off to their engineers who are Sony approved. It was returned 10 days later with a note saying that it was not covered under warranty and must have been self inflicted.

I looked at repairing it myself and sending it away for repair. I then wrote a long email to Sony, explaining that this phone had a crack similar to the ones that Sony were allegedly accepting as faulty.

I also referred them to this forum, pointing out that this seemed to be happening to lots of their phones and citing some examples of them admitting to an overheating fault. They then forwarded a reference number and gave us an address to send the phone to.

The great news is that it was returned 2 weeks later. They had fitted a new front glass, new rear glass, new sides, new top and bottom, and a new battery. In other words it looked brand spanking new.

It was the original phone as it had the same serial number. The moral of this story is dont just give up because you think it is a useless case. DOSE any1 know how to shut alarm on sony xperia z screen has broken while charging my phone overnight in morning i saw hairline crack top of corner now touch screen not working..

How do I know if mine is eligible under the warranty. My screen craked on the top of the phone suffering difficulties with. Open the notification bar: Sony India is also refusing to recognize this problem.

The worst part is they are not even willing to repair the phone even when offered to be paid for the repair. Six months and down the drain. I am washing my hands off off Sony for good!

My husband pulled his phone out of his pocket and the screen was cracked. He didnt even get a year out of it. Ive been looking online and see this is a common problem. Never buying anything sony again.

Sony have just agreed to fix the chip in screen of my. Z how long do they take to repair bareing in min f the time it takes for phone to get to them via free post address? My Wife has the Z1S and it just happened to her — she pulled the phone out of her from pocket, of her lab coat and the screen was cracked.

I asked them about the issues I had heard about the screens cracking arbitrarily and the lady on the phone just ignored us. I had my Z for 30 days and pulled it out of my pocket and the screen is cracked.

From the top to the bottom. One single fine crack. It is now unusable. The phone was in a case and had a screen protector on it. Never dropped and not a mark on it, other than a crack.

I will follow it up here and keep you all posted. My sony z had broken and the sony service centee is asking rs for that its very worst that people buy these type of phones. But in this xperia blog http: Hope company willnt do such injustice in future… Its been three month I am not getting any replay for sony for free replacement.

Nearly invisible hairline crack without dropping phone only 3months old. Can only warn about buying this brand. Went straight to shop and got S5. I bought Sony Xperia Z1 compact just 2 months ago.

Just this morning I tried to switch it on only to discovers some tiny cracks on the screen. This is surprising because the phone never dropped from me before. The phone can no longer be used as a result of the crack.

You cannot pick a call or access the phone contacts because the screen is no longer sensitive. The phone is totally useless now, Unlike other phones, even when there are major cracks, you can still use your phone.

I have been using Black berries even the porsche version, they sometime slip out of me accidentally but non have ever had a crack. For a company with a reputation like Sony to make this phone, it is highly disappointing.

My worst regret is ever buying this Sony phone. My agony is that I cannot find a service center in Abuja, My advice is that People should stop patronizing them.

I had the same problem as you, the screen just gritted my Z1 I believe it was me to be less stressed, sent for service sony Elsys, but another problem was discovered, the IMEI of the phone was not the same NF, which relax so I went in the store I bought and requested a statement and sent the phone back, hence the absurd, they sent a report with several screen shots alleging misuse, with a work order claiming problem in handset ear and part of the cell brings totally scratched, called back the same number in the sony that u mentioned and they really will do anything regarding cracked screen, however pledged to replace the rear screen, as well, I sent the third time the unit to exchange the rear screen and make a budget, they sent me an email to concert 2, What did I do?

I took the machine and for a private concert with budget,00 assistance, however this hard to find the screen but once resolved, I will gather all the protocol, service order email and I exchanged justice.

I got the same prooblem. Found hairline crack in my screen out of no-where. My phone is still in warranty period. Can it be replaced. What are the terms and conditions?

My Xperia V had the same problem, accept my crack starts in the middle and runs to all edges, I did not drop my phone. The worst part is that the phone is completely useless after this and the touch screen does not work at all.

I will rather spend that money on a new phone with less problems and better service. This was my first Sony ever and I must say I was very disappointed. I also got a hairline crack in sony xperia z ultra and the service center says that they cant do it for free.

I was using my finger nail to clean a dirt at the ear piece and got the hairline crack. My phone has a little graze on the corner of which I have no idea how that happened about a month in had it for less than 3 next month and a half later bam it self cracked but it looks like its been dropped because the crack starts on that corner.

I think this is really unfair and Sony should own up and recall all phones until the problem is fixed. I got the Xperia in late November almost December and since then have had to return this phone 3 times.

Now i just got my 3rd one and when i turned the phone on it was already cracked an could not be used at all. Thankfully they recognized that it could have happened in shipping and i will be sent a 4th one for free.

I own a Xperia z and the back panel was shattered when I took it out of my pocket. When contacted the Sony centre they say u r the only one claiming it to be an accident. Never buying Sony again.

Well, this sounds nice but reality is different. The Sony Center in Milan refused to repair the spontaneously broken glass like in the first pictures of my one year old SonyXperia Z unless I paid euro.

So as you can understand this was My Last Sony!!! In the Milanese Chinatown they fixed it for almost half the price…. Mine also cracked suddenly. And here i am trying to bring it to sony service centers and they are asking for 11, pesos.

Says that it is not covered by warranty, since the glass is broken. They did not believe me even when im telling the truth that my phone did not suffer impact or fall. When i told the that a lot had similar cases, they tell me that its just a way to ruin sonys reputation.

I have a z1 and out of the blue I have these tiny hair fractures in my screen. I havnt even had it a year. Happened to me at the end of work I took my phone out of my pocket and the screen was cracked..

Will never get sony again. Had this problem twice now. Once whilst on charge the other whilst phone in pocket. Excess or full amount. I have the xperia z which also has the hairline crack on the screen.

Even same happened with me. Images attached Complaint No — Man, same thing happened to me just a few minutes ago. I have been using my Z Ultra as usual, mine is almost 1 year old.

Have looked after it extremely well. Not a scratch on it. Then I went outside and came back to my computer, the phone was not even in my pocket, it was charging and turn it on and I started to see that I could not unlock the screen.

Then I noticed a very thin line crack and the screen kept jittering. Last one cracked today while on hand and in middle of scrolling through photo album. Heard little snap and crack started from left top corner and widened through the entire screen.

Same Problem,,, My z1 compact has cracked, purchased from dubai,, they have not get warranty,, only the touch problem, but touch and display rate is rupess. I have the sony xperia v and my phone over heated and the screen cracked at the top now they telling me that its my fault.

Hi I have a Sony eperia z with a hairline crak on it. How it happened I was takeing out of my pocket and it was cracked now I can get into my phone what should have this happened 2 anyone else.

I did not ever drop the phone. It was in a very good quality case, plus has good screen protector. All I did was to go outside at night for a cigi, it was probably 2 degrees celcius outside.

I was out only for 1 minute or so, before I went outside I looked and used the phone, put it in my pocket and went outside, light a cigarette and took it out. Then put it back in my pocket and went inside.

When I came inside I took it out again, and voila I saw the screen crack in front of my eyes.. It cracked due to the sudden hot and cold. I am sure about that because I saw it crack in my hand while I was looking at it.

But, I did not want to buy another one of the same, because what if the same thing happen and sooner this time. So, I bought something else. Hi my name is Petar from Bulgaria, i took the device out of my pocked and i sow crack like above pictures hairline crack, but they want me to pay and refuses me warranty.

What can i do in this case. Completely unacceptable given that it is a fault with the phone! Hey, is your xperia rendered useless after this so called out of blue shatter incident? Did Sony cover the repair under warranty claim?

Its almost a case of a rumor that was just spread like a wildfire with no actual reports strengthening the claim. Did you try figuring out what caused that issue or any official report from Sony accepting that as a hardware glitch?

My new z3 Compact got cracked with a single fine line on the display and Sony Hong Kong replaced for me with a new phone without any hassle. I like my z3c and love Sony!

Just happened to mine. I just thought bad service, but I couldnt even shut it down. It basically useless as it randomly pulls things up, like a ghost writer, and you cannot TURN it off.

Sorry to hear about that. This might have to do something with the build quality affecting few selected devices. I mean it just feels wrong that the display cracks rendering the touch panel unless.

Might be the heating effect be causing this peculiar damage on the digitizer. Its strange that none of the top YouTube gadget reviewers reported this while on the other hand they had brought out the bend gate story of iPhone.

The extra slimness of the product has to bear the tradeoffs of some faulty designing. I do condemn the fact that these modern day smart phones have started designing unibody chassis with battery buried deep inside just to make it more slim.

I still carry my Galaxy Nexus and have pried it open umpteen times to check in the internals and can swap battery when it goes flat. Thanks for letting us know.

Also would be nice if you could share me the some pictures of the crack that you got on the screen. Same here Sony Australia did not honor warranty repair, I removed my used my phone put in pocket and took it out nd it ws cracked.

I know what caused it. It is definitely sudden drop in temperature that caused it. I just happened to be using it inside the house where is was a nice 22 degrees, Melbourne Winter time, went outside for a cigarette at around 1am.

I have been reading a book on Kindle, put it in my pocket went outside. I was saving that for the Z3, too bad. And guess what else, I was also planning to get a PS4 yeah, since I already have PS3 I was not in a hurry, because there is no great titles on PS4 anyway, the only game, I play is warhawk.

So, guess what, I would never have imagine me buying an XBoX one instead. Never, because I have many Sony stuffs, Xba h3, tmz t3w, hwds, 55inch bravia 4k 3d. So, what got me to look for another brand..

About a third of my screen was not usable but I kept using it with a lot of hassle. But concact the support now. They seem to have changed the policy right. Even if you are in Barbados I guess you will be supported?

Found a post on some other site regarding Z1, says its screen got cracked while in his pocket, without ever hitting anything. This was to be my phone of the year, now what am I gonna do?

My z1 back panel cracked in my pocket. The crack is only a two centimeter long hairline crack, but broken anyway. Seems I may just get the Z1 after all since Sony is owning up and placing this issue under warranty.

At least Sony is willing to do something about the problem instead of totally ignoring it, a bit more reassuring. Not sure anyone has asked this question. On the Z, front and back glasses come from different manufacturers.

Anyone knows which manufacturer it belongs to the cracked screen? How can I go about getting Sony to take a second look at my phone? I had it assessed once and they refused to repair this was back in July.

Do you have any idea how much is the screen replacement for Xperia Z going to cost me India?? I too had the same problem. I was so upset. It got cracked on the 27th day. I took it to the service centre and they asked for a whooping 19k for it.

I have gotten three hairline cracks on my Z1, going from the top of the screen downwards in three different directions. So disappointed in this phone. I remember seeing a YouTube series of drop tests where no screen made it.

That was iPhone and LG and sony and Samsungs. Left it to service — Strongly Claiming Warranty. After two weeks — I got it back — and it was NOT accepted as warranty. I had to pay EUR I have 3 hairline cracks on my Xperia Z, again without any physical abuse to the phone and it seemingly managing to damage and crack the screen by itself.

Dont Write these type fake blogs. I had the xperia z1 for just over 3 weeks and had researched it for ages to make sure it was going to be the right phone for me. Took the phone out of my pocket whilst it was in its case and noticed a small notch at the top of the phone, no pressure or drop had occurred, on closer inspection I found it was a hair line crack.

After a few hours the crack had traveled the full way down the phone and the screen was unusable. Does anyone know if this is a legitimate sony report? And is this the case in Australia?

Virgin are trying to get me to cover the cost when the phone no other physical damage, was I the case and only around 3 weeks old. Hey, I am also suffering from the same problem.

Pictures provided by you seems that my cracked screen comes under the warranty. I asked him to give it back to me. Then he said that he had talk to the superior in Sony Office and will get it repaired for Rs Now, I am confused what should I do..

Should I pay the amount or seek for any other option. Sony is just washing its hands, via the one crack only policy. It is even dirtier than ignoring the problem itself.

And yes, the Z1 is just entering the phase of mass screen issues…. Had my xperia z in my jacket pocket during a long meeting. Removed from pocket to find screen unresponsive, sent to SBE who want me to pay for it to be repaired?????

The crack looks like a hair placed under the screen not a sledge hammer impact!!!! I will be taking this further just not too sure in what direction. The crack that has come, is a thin crack in the left hand side under the glass that happend after my phone had been in my charger.

Sony states that because it has a few very small scraps on the sides means, that is what has forced the crack under the screen. The screen cracked while in my hand, I literally watch the crack take place as I was changing songs outside on a cold day.

Now i have to pay half as much as the phone cost me to repair it. This post is false, at for Sony users in Europe. You can go to change. Z1 seems to be developing the same issue, as reports are beginning to surface.

Sell it, forget it and get something other than Sony or Samsung. Nothing has happened yet. I would advise you against the Z1. I just came across this blog today. This happened to my Xperia Z too — found a long crack in the LCD one day when i took it out of my pocket!

I called Sony Xperia Care and they pointed me to their local authorised repairer for replacing the screen. How do I convince Sony that my phone qualifies for the In-Warranty repair? I have the screen protector that came in the box on mine and its been fine for almost 2 months.

Sony should sort out the few problems that are out there though. I mean if you pay over pounds for a flagship phone under warranty, you expect it to be covered for product faults by the manufacturer!

My xperia z had a crack appear under the screen a couple weeks ago. The crack how ever is not just a single crack. The phone was on charge on the bedside cabinet. It was fine at night and broke in the morning which I struggled to explain until I looked online and found others with the same issue.

I refuse to pay for service calls. Xperia Z seems to be overall poor quality. Apple phone back please! Had it been a phyical damage, it wouldnt hv been for so many users and i claim it to a manufacturer defect.

This phone is supposed to be tough i. I sent it back to my service providers and it was sent cross country for 21 days and they told me they have to charge twice the price of a brand new screen.

Do i need to contact Sony or should my service provider do it? Any advice would be appreciated. I have just had exactly the same problem, had the phone in my pocket like I have done for the last four months and found the phone did not work, I cannot unlock the phone or enter the PIN.

On further investigation after removing the screen protector I noticed two hairline cracks coming from the right hand side of the screen. The phone has never been dropped or bashed.

After looking at all of the blogs I am not confident they will resolve anything and I will be stuck with a useless phone with 18 months left on the contract…… If anyone has had any joy getting theirs fixed please can they let me know.

How did you go about getting it repaired? Hi Jack, I bought Sony xperia Z. I could see a hairline crack. I brought in India which is under warranty. When i visited service center he is saying to he would provide piece to piece exchange and I have to pay half the amount for replacing it.

Can you please guide me. Good, same thing happened to a coworker of mine. Ask what so said.. Really going to start looking at different phone makes.

They removed the 2 listed items. I reckon it will be released this week coming though.

Hopefully the local sony product gives something as a bonus. Watching a few reviews on this, this should have been their only product release for a smartphone this year.

Their smartphone division was wanting to trim the fat, so it releases a pile of phones. X performance, x, xa etc.. The best thing Sony can do is emulate Apple, and release just 2 x phones a year.

Make them a top product, and focus on that. Am I the only one that doesn’t like the idea of a curved screen? It would have been a purchase if not for that. Doesn’t look great, Tempered glass screen protectors don’t sit on properly and if you drop it, it would seem there is more of a chance to crack the edge of the screen.

Unless I’m wrong here? We were talking about pre-order bonuses etc before. It lists XZ as a compatible purchase to claim https: That’s the bonus headset, white only http: They will not have Blue only black.

I think the specs, design and accessories will make it an excellent phone. Telstra don’t do decent prices. I learnt from mistakes, now I buy outright and move around telcos like a whore: The guy didn’t know about it but he had it on the teminal without any orders placed, meaning SONY had no stock.

I’ve always felt that outright works out better once you consider the better value plans you’re foregoing by getting stuck on a single carrier. I pre-ordered the Forest Blue with the noise cancelling earphones free.

I think the pre-order bonus in UK is much better, they got a BT headset while we gt a noise cancelling earphones. Z5 Premium That 4K screen was only displaying 4K in a few apps, normal rendering of screen was p I believe or maybe p.

Don’t be guided by pixel numbers, most reviewers are full of praise for this p screen. Only the Z5 Premium has the 4k display but only when viewing 4k content. The screen reverts back to the default display when just using normal stuffs.

Unsure if it will be the case. So the boot had the Telstra splash logo. You could flash over it if you really cared but I don’t think it’ll matter much. Yoza, did you notice delays with software updates?

My z3 bought direct from sony is so much faster to receive updates compare to my original z which I bought outright from Telstra back then. If I jumped the gun then I am sorry. I would not have believed it but if that what happened in the past then I can’t say for sure.

For me, it matters not, I’m with Telstra anyway. You might want one of these as I read reports they are not included by default in xperia boxes Yes, there were definite delays although generally speaking the updates don’t bother me too much.

In fact I ended up having to factory reset after one update as the battery was draining way too fast and a few forums suggested wiping the device before re-updating which worked fine.

If I cared enough I’d just have flashed to an international ROM given they’re made available pretty quickly. My main decision at the moment is: Aussie stock would end up with a 3 yr warranty including the extended warranty from a credit card.

Are these available internationally at all? Can remember all the accessories for my Z3 Compact were significantly cheaper from overseas dock, mount, etc. I know nothing about these quick chargers.

Except there are models that are qualified and some not, gonna risk your Xperia? I jumped off the Sony train after the trainwreck of the Z5 series however i was offered the phone at an attractive price that tempted me to buy one.

I had a hands on a few weeks back and the build is certainly interesting. I know we are all going to be let down by the software I’m torn, do I keep the s7e loaner, or send it back, and get Sony xz.

Anyone have any pros and cons? I really don’t understand you SONY So telstra is the only carrier you can get the phone on and they happen to be the most expensive carrier and are only carrying one generic colour You want more of a market share SONY then make your phones more accessible through more carriers.

No camera bump 5. Inclusion of a camera dedicated button 6. Stereo front facing speakers 7. Battery life life span 9. It’s not slippery like the Galaxy’s That’s it in my eyes, of course there is plenty of subjective stuff like on screen display and style.

Hey guys I’m chasing feedback from those who have have Sony phones previously. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews of previous models and it seems the camera is usually a sore point, as in it never seems to be as good as it could or should be.

Technically they are very capable as most of the market uses Sony lenses as you would already know. They have generally been up there in the DxOMark rankings however more recently been lingering in the Top spot.

They are very capable and take nice shots, some of the best but certainly not the best in class. SONY have not listed charger specs of the in the box item on their website, though it looks unlikely we get the fast charger 3 adapter as it is listed as an accessory on the buy page of the phone.

And can you give us any feedback on it’s performance compared to the basic one that came with the Cove phone? When there is sufficient light, i dare say they are on par with your iphones and samsung.

Turn the lights off and you get a bucket load of noise and loss of details. AFAIK, XZ is the only sony phone that allows you to control the exposure time longest being 1 second, which helps in the dark provided you have super steady hands or put it on a tripod.

XZ went 40 minutes I think. Thanks for the feedback. I guess the majority of my pics would be during the day or mostly well lit areas so hopefully that wouldn’t be a concern, and it’s good to hear in lit areas the camera is about on par with the better camera phones out there.

In manual mode, it takes a few seconds to change a few of the settings to improve the night shots dramatically — and these can be better than the other ‘flagships’ without such settings.

But as others have said, most people want to take a picture by default, and the Samsung and Apple range perform better in darker shots by default in auto. The XZ has a new focusing system for movement.

So far on youtube, the videos look promising. Doesn’t blow away the rest, but still shows good stabilisation. Yeah I was just reading about that. Sounds handy for taking shots of our fast moving toddlers.

I’ve been reading reviews most of the day and they all seem really positive, and the camera seems to have been much improved over previous models. I stick with blue-tick phones as I work in remote areas and was hoping to replace my trusty Z2 with this.

SO there 2 more cons: Poor post processing of low light photos btw, quad hd is not a big con for me, maybe 3gb instead of 4gb is. Anyway, I know S7 edge is a great phone, but I love sony android and phone design.

I will just wait until there more XZ reviews to find out how bad id the battery and the quality of the low light photos before buying a new phone. S7 edge battery is not as good as it was at the time of reviews.

We shall see wont we. Keep in mind what one camera lacks it often makes up for in another area,. The XZ gets a hammering in this review http: Check out PhoneArenas YouTube review of it – https: Trying to find a phone to replace my Note 7.

Looking at the other other options none get even close but the XZ had got my attention. Forgetting its not quad hd it ticks the box on. Only thing is I want the 64gb dual sim version. Will any bricks snd mortar shop stock that?

Note 7 was the only one ive seen. The 64 GB model of this and also the Galaxy S7 are not made for Australia, not supplied outside grey market into Australia by the manufacturer.

I have no idea why dual sim version models in India always get 64GB as well. Nerveless that’s what we get as do Europe and USA. Thats why I went for the Note 7.

Guess I’ll look at the grey market. Jaxar you handing your note 7 in mate. I’ll be considering the xz 32gb hard. Yep sure am, well sometime this week anyway.

I’ve been tossing up which way to go as I want to swap to another model and I think I’m now set on the XZ. It seems to tick all the boxes for me, and it launches pretty soon which is a bonus.

I was considering the Moto Z Force but the ip68 water resistance swung me to Sony. Ill just push to one side the fact that the xz has a smaller battery by mah and screen is only full HD. XZ looks real nice.

Note 7 only phone that shades it on looks. I was wondering if Note 7 pre-orders people get to keep these and under what circumstance. Like if you get full refund do they ask for it back. Nothing to write about, i have 3 pairs sitting in my cupboard from previous Sony pre-orders.

I’m pretty sure you can pick them up on ebay for like 40 bucks. To give you some practical numbers, due to the fact that its a new phone, I’ve been playing with it quite a bit, so on the weekend, I went out with the XZ and a QC2.

I didnt read the link you posted, but, if you are judging the reception based on the “bars” then the XZ shows lower bars than my HTC 10, my 10 would show 4 bars, but the XZ would show 1 or 2. However, when viewing in – dbm, the numbers are similar between the XZ and the I feel the XZ scans and skips towers a bit more aggressively than the 10 probably a little too aggressive.

I would also like to ask, should you turn off the battery management feature or not in order to use quick charge. The colour saturation is amazing, even compared to amoled 2. I cant see the pixels, QHD is not needed 3.

I’ve already turned it off, it still is a little slower than my HTC10 between 80 and Ok but what I mean is do you have to turn it off — otherwise the quick charge does nothing more than a standard charge?

Have not tested, I turned the feature off the second the phone turned on. I have odd waking hours, so it just wasnt going to work for me. On another note I ordered a few cheapie cases and screen protectors today from eBay.

Hopefully I’ll have them before I actually get the new phone. It doesn’t refract the light on the panel below, doesn’t distort the viewing, and fits in with the curved sides well.

The daylight visibility is probably the best I’ve seen from ANY phone, and by a good margin too Sound good, high quality, not tinny, but also not loud enough. Perfectly fine for 1 to 2 person viewing in a quiet to reasonably quiet space.

If its noisy, forgettaboutit. It was on charge for less than an hour. Listening on my very muffled extremely poor audio Z1 it sounds like the XZ is still rather ordinary with audio Are any of the other phones waterproof?

Listening on my very muffled extremely poor audio Z1 it sounds like the XZ is still rather ordinary with audio. I’ve got a Z3 Compact and I feel the audio is a little soft but quite crisp.

My fiancee’s got a OnePlus One and the audio on that is tinny as all hell. I can either watch a YouTube video or listen to it I can’t do both unless it’s quiet I had to remove the speaker grill as it was filled with gunk and muffled the sound so much I couldn’t hear the phone ring The sounds improved but it’s slowly degraded again and really isn’t up to scratch even for a budget phone let alone a flagship.

Can someone who has the dual SIM version please confirm the dual sim capability? Pretty keen on this phone and I know the X performance had this capability but need to be sure. Not myself but I have read on more than one review that it does do dual 3g However, did you know this model has 64GB because if you use dual sim you can’t add SD card.

I’m still rocking the original Xperia Z, but it’s pretty much on it’s last legs. Replaced the battery once already, wifi issues sometimes compared to other devices, etc. Missed out on the Clove pre-order headphones, and don’t really care for the AU pre-order headphones Been looking for the 64GB version.

And their price seems way too low. Can’t help but think they’re pulling some dodgy selling it ex-gst. They’re definitely selling it ex-GST, even says so on the site. Makes me a bit reluctant.

I’d love to get an in person look at the colours of the different phones. On screen the forest blue looks pretty mediocre. But sometimes photos don’t do justice to real life.

Seen a few people on XDA who have bought from this seller. I’ve been looking at it as well Trying to pre-order one from Sony Aus store, can’t get past the spinning wheel upon clicking the add to cart button.

Tried different OS and browsers. Has anyone in here managed to order one? Looking forward to the XZ. Been an Xperia fan since with the original Z In an ideal Android world, the user would have the choice to move any and all apps to the external SD Card, but, this just aint so.

Moreover, whatever apps you do painfully manually move to SD, these will revert back to internal storage once the app is updated. But, 64GB is not a launch variant in Australia! This is a deal breaker.

Yes, these importers do state they will provide after sales service, but, c’mon. This is just delusional. Sony Australia warranty service Excellent support over the phone, with the NZ-based call centre.

This means no awkward conversations as a foreign staffer’s whose spoken English vernacular is different to ours. FoneBiz are their steadfast repair contractors. When I raised a request for warranty service, it was always promptly granted.

Makes the official Sony Australia price premium worth the expense. I remember back with the Z that Case-Mate were official accessory partners with Sony. When I was overseas, the Z flew off my motorbike, skated along the road, ducked under a parked vehicle.

Then, finally came to rest on top of the drainage gate, with the large slits. The Z was fine! Samsung’s Android skin is too intrusive for my tastes. Sony’s take on Android is far more palatable to me.

This is startling omission for a late release phone. I’d like the reassurance that rain, or, a drink accident will not brick my phone, without warranty protection! A message to Sony Australia: In and, 64GB will surely be the absolute minimum!

Is this still a deal breaker on a phone that has a micro SD slot? Appreciate that expandable storage has shortcomings, but with 32gb on board and expandability, surely it’s pretty safe? Storage aside, the S will only be marginally better so I am hesitating getting it.

For the first time I am actually considering iphones, the note 7 was the flagship to get, now i feel like there is nothing worth getting. The XZ looks great and is decently priced but I wished they had released a 5.

That’s my issue right now This says 1 year limited warranty http: Some interesting points made there Pegasus. I agree, 64GB would be the best version to have to avoid constant app transfer warnings etc.

There are so many apps which require internal storage only. Regarding price drops, have a look at DWI’s price for the Z5 premium chrome now. Comes with 12 months DWI warranty — not sure who has been through this process, but I don’t think it’d be as painful as buying through eBay and being up crud creek without a paddle.

DWI are reputable at least. Does anyone know what you get in Hong Kong box And Taiwan’s too? Anything different from the norm like 3. It’d come with the standard charger plus the Australian adapter quick charger would need to be purchased, but same applies to buying locally.

Free shipping is in the price. I’ve bought plenty from DWI — have never used their service — others on here would have. I’d trust them over an ebay seller though. Stock for Australia always seems to be more of a raw deal.

Maybe if more people bought the grey stock, they’d see sales go down and give us something decent locally to compete. We surely understand your concern. For any warranty cases, DWI will arrange a pick up from your Australian address so you do not have to pay for the postage.

However our previous estimates show that most of the items were repaired and sent back in weeks approx. I would put a healthy bet on the answer being no. They should have a 2 year warranty, for the last few I’ve purchased they have a leaflet saying they have an additional 12 months warranty over the standard 12 months.

How many apps do you guys have? I have a Xperia Z3 with 16GB internal and the only time the “internal memory almost full” notification appeared was 2 months ago when I downloaded 2 Japanese rhythm games that required 1.

Not sure if it is working now but I was able to pre-order from the day they announced that pre-order is open. I did received the email confirmation. I bought my Xperia Z3 2 years ago from Sony Australia and it does come with the 12 months warranty plus extended12 months warranty.

I’m guessing that will be the same with the XZ. Thanks for the info. I’ve tried again; I get the spinning wheel for sometime and then it times out with a message “Transmission Problem”.

If you’ve got a credit card with extended warranty it shoule 2 from Sony Australia and 1 from your Credit Card: Unless you are a total Android app spendthrift, 32GB will just not cut it in I get the spinning wheel for sometime and then it times out with a message “Transmission Problem”.

Is DWI really a good option? I’ve read mixed reviews about their service. Online reviews can be posted by competitors, angry customers who are fussy as can be, or genuine people.

Most people who order from DWI never have an issue — I have purchased thousands of dollars of smartphone and photography equipment from them, as have many others on the forum.

A couple of things I have ordered from them a few years, did arrive, just arrived later than expected and there was no follow-up to my emails. Maybe check their Facebook to see what others think.

Keep in mind, happy customers usually don’t post anything about the service, the annoyed ones do. Mind you — they could both have more issues than I realise — maybe I’ve just been lucky.

If anything, assuming the 64GB variant is never released, this will negatively affect sales, as the more serious users want more storage. So, Sony may be inclined to offer discounts sooner.

For the first time I am actually considering iphones Likewise! The iPhone 7, GB has the storage I need, and, want. In any event, I would expect 2 years warranty support considering implied warranty, as per consumer law.

That’s the point with parallel imports. When it comes to service, you are relying on the retailer for support and repairs. If the retailer is located overseas, forget it! There is no recourse for the consumer if things go south.

Maybe the Telstra 32GB version is the best offer for most people. Any warranty is dealt through via Telstra. Especially for those who are not conscious how small 32GB will be in These are the clueless, and, unsophisticated users.

Truth be told, most consumers fall into the latter categories, as most people do not have this knowledge, and, expertise. It’s like those used car warranties.

Making a claim, then coming to a good resolution is just too painful. That guy on eBay said he provided 12 month complete piece of mind warranty so it must be true. Yeah that’s the feeling I’m getting right now.

It’s hardly a no-brainer. I look at it like this, I’m not averse to buying a new phone frequently since they’ve been improving quite rapidly generation to generation.

I tend to look at the cost compared to it’s “life expectancy”. If I’m getting a phone on a 2 year contract I expect it to last that long so that’s my baseline. Depending on the saving the phone lifetime can be reduced proportionally and I’ll still feel like I’ve got a good deal.

A shorter lifespan means I can get a new handset quicker without feeling like I’ve “lost money”. The shorter lifespan also means more of the lifespan is covered by the mandatory warranty.

In terms of risk, as I see it there are several scenarios you’d need to worry about grey importing;. Catastrophic failure leading to recall. This is unlikely, but I believe Sony would do just like Samsung and honour returns worldwide.

I don’t think they could do otherwise in the current climate. I don’t see this as an issue. Some basic research before buying should clarify whether an imported handset will work on our networks.

And being patient and waiting a couple weeks should confirm it because someone else will inevitably import one and comment on compatibility. More likely than point 1, but not a huge risk. Hardware quality is likely very high.

I haven’t been able to find a good source for stats on hardware failure but it’s quite low. So for a start, the phone is unlikely to fail. For seconds, you can still rely on the store for the mandatory 12 month warranty.

This is where the risk kicks in, it’s incredibly hard to judge some of these shops because you see people complaining about service from hell, but others having no dramas at all. Ripped off by seller — no phone, wrong phone etc.

Like the issues in point 3 it’s hard to assess the risk of this. That said, I think it’s possible to minimize risk by choosing a shop that’s been around for awhile or Ebay sellers with literally thousands of positive reviews.

So at the moment, what I’m trying to do is figure out what the chances of the shop I buy from being dodgy. Trawling through tons or reviews and forum threads about various shops trying to work out if they’re an acceptable risk.

This is what you are up for a second time around, if there is a major failure, and, you cannot gain a satisfactory outcome from the third party warranty claim process.

In other words, you have to write off the loss. This is a lousy outcome, and, consumer experience. Yes, it is true that quality is high these days. The chances of requiring serious technical service from the manufacturer is only slight.

But, hypothetical probabilities amount to nothing when the worst does occur. At the highest level, you certainly want your home insurance policy to pay out.

For those who skimped, or, did not read the policy carefully, financial ruin awaits. Samsung certainly has failures. So, when the worst happens to you, you really want official manufacturer support.

This is especially the case where you experience multiple failures, where the only sensible resolution is a complete handset replacement, or, a cash refund. Let us suppose that the Xperia XZ does fail, and, you are not confident, or, unable to gain support from the importer.

You could have the handset repaired by FoneBiz, the official Sony Australia contractor. But, what would the minimum charge would be in practice? OK, they fix it, but, another problem arises.

As for a worldwide recall, there is no obligation for a manufacturer to accept any and all claims irrespective of where the handset was originally sold. This is elementary consumer law.

To think otherwise is pure speculation, even wishful thinking. A more obvious example is the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal. For those VW tragics who paid a small fortune to have their parallel import, special vehicles shipped to Australia, they will only know this too well.

Incompatibility is something that needs to be reckoned as well. Most people are just not comfortable chancing it, even if good research was done beforehand.

If it turns out the parallel import does not fully work with your network, there is nothing can be done. The money has long been paid, the handset has been delivered. At the end of the day, it comes to how much you are willing to risk, and, how much the savings are?

In a serious arena of corporate handset hardware acquisition, parallel imports would just never, ever be considered for reasons already stated. The accountants, and, lawyers would not have a bar of it.

The IT Dept would obviously object, due to compatibility risks. At the end of the day, it has to be said, that by far and away, the lion’s share of phone handset sales are from official sales channels.

The reasons why Mr or Mrs Average Australian buying their handset from their mobile operator, or, local retailer are rational, and, sound. In fact, all things considered, Mr and Mrs Average Australian are taking a more sensible, more thoughtful approach than the so-called “experts” at Whirlpool.

For high net worth individuals, even spending a single hour on going through the various forums is a dead loss. And as far as time-to-fix anything beyond a day is probably going to result in me buying a brand new phone and selling whatever comes back under warranty.

In fact my Sony Z3 Compact had a slightly loose headphone jack and I never got it fixed it’s now outside warranty for the sheer reason that I’m not willing to switch my phone out and use a loan phone, only to re-do everything once my phone comes back to me.

Encryption, Android updates, app install, app verification, account log ins, media file transfers, screen protector install, test calls, Internet tests Sounds too optimistic for most cases.

Most people could not countenance such a drastic strategy. But, for those with time constraints, then, buying a phone with a some sort of same day replacement policy, or; as you suggested, buy a new phone straight away, would be the obvious solutions.

It is the same task if it is completed on a warranty replacement phone, or, a new phone purchase. I’ve just taken the plunge to grab a grey import but only because it’s a Dual SIM variant.

Dual SIM phone is something of a must for serious overseas travellers. Or, a second handset Unless it’s unavoidable I’m definitely scrubbing my phone before sending it in. So I’m going to have to do this twice in as many weeks.

Samsung replaced a bricked Galaxy S3 the spot for me. That’s a given, assuming standard warranty terms. Physical damage, especially cracked screens, are the obvious exceptions. But, as for everything else, you are covered for more than one year: If multiple repairs are required, it makes the exercise futile.

Moreover, if the screen is totally dead, I would write off the phone altogether. If I am unable to complete the scrub, then, I would not submit it for service. But, scrubbing is nowhere near as long, and, arduous compared to a new phone set up from scratch.

Again, the only difference in respect to device management tasks with a A warranty replacement phone, and; B buying a new phone, is the scrub. The only way to avoid the scrub is to keep the phone, or, destroy it.

With either outcome, the tedious set up from scratch tasks are the same. So, even if Sony replaces the handset with a brand new unit, you have to complete the scrub, and, set up tasks all over again.

Needless to say, the best phone is one which does not require a complete reset, or, scrub, during its useful lifetime. They follow the traditional, and, standard practice of handset assessment, with a resultant repair, or, replacement.

Good point about the hourly cost of research, but considering I just spent an hour watching Doomsday preppers and 90ish minutes watching Mortal Kombat a few hours of phone research is probably time better spent: In terms of phone failures and repair costs.

There are two elements there, firstly the risk the phone is going to fail in the first place. The risk of it failing is generally pretty low. I’ve had two phones fail on me over the years, one was at 25 months nice timing on that one and one was the first day I got it.

In the first case it wouldn’t bother me since I’d be looking to upgrade at that point anyway. Well, if it’s Australian registered they’re obliged to honour at least the 12 month warranty.

So there isn’t wiggle room to say no they can’t do so. I think if a shop has been around for long enough and there is at least some decent word of mouth then the risk is minimized. The best part is that it comes with a newer Android 4.

I wouldn’t buy from a shop that has popped up in the last 6 months but the one I’m leaning towards has been around for nearly a decade.

So it’s likely they’re not a scam. Going up to a month without a phone is a real possibility. This is the whole point: For you, you are more adventurous, seeking an immediate saving.

Australian registered they’re obliged to honour at least the 12 month warranty. Consumer law is administered on a state basis. Hence, when purchasing a parallel import from an independent, single store retailer from another state, there are associated risks.

If the importer is in Adelaide, the purchaser in Melbourne, and, the in-house warranty claim outcome is unsatisfactory, what does one do? You are really hoping that the store is honourable.

If the business has permanently closed — which often happens with small businesses — there is no warranty. The ultimate example of buying away from one’s home state are electronics, camera, or, watch purchases when travelling overseas.

Unless the warranty coverage is worldwide, what is the point? The total time frame was one week. The quickest route is to deal with Sony direct, as opposed to lodging the handset with the retailer.

Mine just arrived, picked it up as an interim while I look at my condemned Note 7 and wait until Samsung release a Note that doesn’t explode Wow there are some really wildly differing opinions on this phone.

I’ve read heaps of positive reviews but then come across stuff like below which is fairly worrying:. The XZ is inexplicably slow, sluggish, and unresponsive, often failing or taking an abnormally long time to register touches.

It hesitates for seconds on end before launching lightweight apps like Gmail, Instagram, and Feedly. Webpages in Google Chrome frequently freeze and crash the browser. The only time I’ve had it stutter is when I had apps queued for downloading and installing at the same time.

I haven’t had chrome crash and can pan around google maps just fine. I currently have 9 apps in the mutlitask menu and it’s not chugging out at all. Sounds like a load of you know what to me.

If that were the case every site would say so Probably a pre production unit that had problems or maybe even “user error”. Now i’ve had every single flagship Xperia Z and had the Xperia X for a few weeks and theres a few truths to it.

However i do find that on Sony phones, when you launch an application for the first time without it being in the memory, start up is sluggish compared to a Samsung, LG or HTC.

I also find once you have heaps of web browsers or apps open, loading other apps are quite sluggish, the worst experience for me on a Sony device was the Xperia Z5 Premium. Horrendous firmware compared to the Xperia Z5.

I did the Z1 and Z5P, love the design but the OS as you said, isn’t the quickest at launching, HTC was similarly slow even when they dialed up the animations it was still noticeable for me.

Unfortunately the theme designers are whack AF lol. However, we have to give Sony the benefit of the doubt, here. Things could improve dramatically between now and then. And those tweaks will have no impact on the general operation of the software, the main impact is on the cellular connectivity based on network and as the phone is already released overseas, the talk around pre-release software is irrelevant: That hands on preview was posted at the time of IFA, where the phone was announced.

So it technically was pre release software. I’m sure there’s others but here’s a vid comparing XZ and Note 7 in terms of speed of opening apps etc https: I like this one better because it’s from boot cold https: Spec wise most phones are similar.

It’s where you’ve used the phone for a few days in your normal operating environments that interest me the most. When the phone hasn’t been powered down for over 2 weeks, with apps banked up in the memory.

I’ve already slobbered all over the unit, the smell of a new Sony phone out of the box is always a good experience. The interesting part with conducting tests, it is very difficult to compare two phones unless they have the same apps and settings — and were rebooted at a set time, and updates etc are switched off.

For example, say I was recording my experience with the XZ — ready for youtube. I experience some lag. Also some of those users conducting speed tests with two phones on one network — your WiFi network never guarantees you a consistent speed all the time.

Most times, it always fluctuates. And in an online test, one of the phones could be pulling less data due to the allocation at the time. Was just watching that vid — did it lose to a galaxy with ram management?!

OnePlus do a real good job with their software. I had the OP3 for a few weeks was quite impressed. Has anybody else been into JB HiFi to pre-order? I just tried ore-ordering over the phone with Telstra and they said they can’t do it over the phone, it has to be either in store or online.

Oh well, I’ll pop down tomorrow to my local store to organise a swap of the Note 7 and to order the XZ. I went to JB yesterday, they didn’t even know about this model.

I already mentioned the issues with online pre-order in an earlier post. So I ordered a OnePlus3 last night. The Sony online pre-ordering now works for me I know but the guy I spoke to looked on his hand held machine and found it.

It’s vanilla with a few decent mods. It works well but tbh it gets boring, to the point I probably sometime miss the bells and whistles of tw. Thanks guys for the confirmation. If only they had blue!!

Now if I could blend the best features of each Or perhaps even just get a clear read on which camera is the best Pretty sure they already have. They were supposed to ring me back but nothing so far.

That’s interesting, it’s almost identical to complaints especially the long time the register touches that were made about the X Perfomance. Makes me wonder if there is a problem with the screen and it still hasn’t been resolved.

Be interesting to see how you guys who buy early feel about it. I’m holding off for the moment hoping to see more reviews about release versions rather than early pre-release handsets.

It sounds like one of those retail units that just needs a restart. Or maybe he was actually using it retail mode cause i don’t see how any phone with a s would lag, stutter and struggle with Chrome to that extent unless they really broke the system lol.

Yeah I was watching a bunch of review videos on Youtube last night and none of them mentioned any performance issues and all of the phones features looked like there were running quite snappy.

Certainly didn’t look like there were any delays etc. Yeah I was watching a bunch of review videos on Youtube last night and none of them mentioned any performance issues. Yeah, Sony’s made many questionable decisions over the past few years and I’m sure they’ve lost a number of fans.

However to me they have always had one of the best designs, and did not follow suit in copying the other brands looking like everything else on the market. This is probably one of the reasons I would buy the XZ.

Speaking of questionable decision, i don’t know why they didn’t just release XZ as a 5. Decisions like this do not help their image even if it does not affect performance. There’s not really any reviews of retail units complaining of lag.

The Digital Trends article is just a hands-on preview from IFA announcement time of a pre-release device. I haven’t quite decided if i want one yet. I don’t really need 4gb RAM usage wise.

But would have been good to have, future proofing wise etc, as I don’t update my phones as often these days. Installed about 30 apps last night and filled the screens with widgets and shortcuts etc. No noticable lag so far.

Might report back after a few days to let the xz build up more crap. On their site they say stock due in 1 week. I wondered this too. But I’ve seen an article where it was discussed.

The reasoning was that it’s actually not necessary at this point and adding more ram puts more strain on the battery. So they’re keeping the RAM lower in an attempt to maintain better battery life.

Same reason they have stuck with the HD screen rather than going higher. Personally, I think when you have lots of people complaining about it or at least wishing for it the company is being shortsighted.

There is obviously an opportunity there, try introducing a model with what the people are crying out for and see if it sells. Heck they could make it a “limited edition” or something just to add to the desirability.

Get one of the touch cases from mobilezap — they deliver in a couple of days usually. Local Telstra Store Eastlands in Hobart had a display unit but no stock yet. Do very much like this phone and will be getting one.

JB in the same centre said they would have them tomorrow. Touch or style case? As they do have the Frost blue toicjh case for pre-order. How are they already discounted on amazon?

It’s literally just launched like 2 weeks ago. My local Telstra store Willows, Townsville said they received 2 in for stock today, but couldn’t sell them until Thursday. Because in America the USD price tag was initially too much.

I would never use a phone until I have a few tempered glass screen protectors, rear film protector, and, some sort of temporary case. I say temporary, assuming that the my preferred Case-Mate case cannot be delivered straight away, as it is a brand new release phone.

Having a few spare front, and, rear protectors is always good practice, in case you muck up the install, or, the protector fails. I even keep a few cheap eBay gel cases, in case no pun intended the primary case also fails.

As for using the phone with absolutely no protections at all, I could never countenance this. For me, roughed up phones look cheap. Putting engineering reasons aside, there is the cost issue. High speed RAM is expensive.

Could you imagine Samsung, or, Apple being so generous? As for the true rationale for Sony’s decision to fit the XZ with 3GB, only Sony can give us all the definitive answer.

The only thing which is holding me back is the paltry 16GB of internal memory. I am already at this limit. Having a few spare front, and, rear protectors is always good practice.

Has anyone tried a tempered glass screen protector? The xz will be a hit or miss for me depending on weather a tempered glass screen protector holds well without peeling, like the curved Samsung’s.

Last year the face of my Xperia hit a metal object. The screen protector SP copped the impact, and, broke. But the treasured Corning Gorilla Glass was just fine. Possibly saved a screen replacement, at my own cost.

The golden rule is not to fall for the marketing hype from overpriced SPs. Only a fool would pay so much. As the engineering wonks would easily attest, the fit will just never be perfect.

Flat SPs, on the other hand, are a piece of cake to install. All you need to make sure of is that the SP is within the screen edge limits, and, that button surrounds, camera, microphone, speaker orifices are aligned with the SP cut outs.

This underscores the need to have a few SPs on hand. If you muck up the install, you are not hamstrung with having zero parts available. I don’t have this luxury on this occasion — XZ arrived too early first world problem i guess.

The naked XZ actually feels very nice to hold! Mind you it’s going to go into a case as soon as i can get my hands on one. Protections aside, I found that the double tap to wake on the XZ is not very responsive.

Does anyone have a similar problem? Sometimes it takes 2 quick taps. Sometimes 2 slow taps works. Using the Z5 I have struggled with the double tap — would take me sometimes go’s to get it open could be the way I do it — I have by and large gone back to using the home button.

These people often complain the loudest when they drop their phones, with resultant broken screens! Actually I’d like to liken it to sex. You could use protection and have half the experience, so I just risk it and enjoy the feeling more.

I sold my Galaxy Note 4 after 2 years without a scratch on it so it has worked for me. Yeah I used my Note 3 for years without a case and it’s still fine.

Had the Note 7 a few days and broke the screen. I’ve ordered a few cases for the XZ to try out. If I feel confident using it without a case though I’ll definitely do that. I’ve never broken a phone screen, and my current phone is a Galaxy S4 which I’ve had since about a month after release.

I’ve not had a screen protector on it for 2 years, there’s not a mark on the screen. Cool design, might end up with one of these. This is a big part of the reason I dislike the curved aka Edge style screens.

Given the choice or a proper “flat” screen and a curved one I’d take a flat one every time. Comparing using a phone to sex. I want to say more but I don’t think it’d be PG rated: I must admit it’s only my original Nokia back in the dark ages and my latest phone Note7 that I bothered with cases.

The old Nokia because it was huge and came with a case so you could clip it to your belt. The Note because I wanted to use it kinda like a notebook got a case I could put business cards and stuff in as well.

All the phones in between went unprotected and I never really had dramas with them. My Xperia Z is looking a little worn, but no cracks or major scratches. There has to be scratches on a phone after two years of service, no matter how small.

But, whether or not that is a concern, is a personal judgement. Neither did one of my clients, until the day before a working trip in the UK. Dropped from high enough on concrete, a phone will break.

Threw her schedule out the window. The replacement Telstra loan phone was rubbish. The Business Class Emirates flight to London, after a 24 hour delay to arrange the loan phone, was truly agonising for her.

Back on topic, quite tempted to get one of these over the Pixel but concerned re camera quality after seeing a blind test on GSMarena and updates which I know from experience on the original Z and Z3 are slow from Sony: I asked the local mobile phone technician his thoughts.

His reply is that the Huawei units are not as physically robust compared to Sony, Samsung, and, Apple. So, after a few drops, the phone has a higher chance of failing compared to its Japanese, Korean, and, American competitors.

Another classy alternative is obviously Apple iPhone 7. One professional reviewer made a point that the standard 7 does not have a full HD screeen, like the Plus.

This makes for a compromised experience, especially when web pages have to re-scaled. As for Samsung, their take in Android withTouchWiz is over the top. Sony do it much better, as they are more restrained, more Japanese, with their OS tweaks.

But, no water resistance, no microSD Card slot. You are essentially railroaded into buying the top GB variant. Sony camera sensors, and, image processing are excellent quality.

People saying otherwise just do not know Sony well enough. Or, Akio Morita, for that matter. Sure, Xperia XZ concedes the ultimate in performance to the almighty Samsung S7 and iPhone 7, but, it still has a classy camera.

Indeed, the iPhone 7 uses a Sony sensor. The original Xperia Z produced excellent results, and, that was back in Motorola is the fastest OEM to release updates.

Sony and Samsung released their Android Marshmallow 6. Android is so secure, that it alleviates the need to immediately update to the latest version. However, critical updates like the Heartbleed patch ought to be effected straight away.

Even Windows 7 from is safe to use until But, I would decommission an Xperia phone when Sony no longer supports it. The Xperia Z is a good example of this policy.

Agree for the most part — Especially the first point. For a flagship the Pixel misses on a few must haves IMO. Currently running a Moto X Style and my third choice is the Moto Z but fear battery life will be too low given how I use my phone a lot of hot spot, data and phone use for work.

If you use the phone hard enough, it will drain. The only strategies to alleviate this is to buy a phablet, which have larger batteries, and, naturally keep battery banks on hand. Motorola does have its loyal fan base, especially in America, where it has its corporate origins.

However, now that I’m mostly within arm’s reach of a charger PC or Car it’s not a big concern. And I’ve got a battery pack for when it’s really desperate times. As for the Sony phones being awesome cameras I’ve no doubt their hardware is great but general consensus is that their software falls behind the major players.

However, they tend to do very well in DxOMark findings which makes me think it’s more to do with the ‘Superior Auto’ mode perhaps not being great? OK, if the same standard scientifically sound objective tests, and, benchmarks are equally, and, fairly applied to the Xperia XZ, Samsung S7, Huawei P9, and, iPhone 7, then, fine.

I am not going to let my loyalty to Sony become blind, and, irrational. Photographic enthusiasts will easily attest that the many of the best photos are taken with the camera on a tripod, neutral density filter, slow shutter speed, aperture stopped down, and, the ISO set to a low number as well.

It is like an Intel Core i7 computer with a crazy dual graphics card set up; it works at a monumental speed. When you are at a celebrity event with Taylor Swift in attendance, you literally cannot afford to miss an opportunity to take the critical, candid moment that the lovely Ms Swift is doing something truly memorable.

There is nothing glamorous lugging around 3 kg pro SLR around. The results are exactly the same. As you guessed it, the camera is just an extension of my thoughts.

All I am focused on are expressing ideas. Coming back to “Superior and “Auto” modes, this is just marketing talk for “Lazy Mode”. If the subject is boring, the composition is that bland, the lighting so dire, no amount of the image processor calculations can turn a sow’s ear into a silk purse.

As for why the example factory phone photos look so good is that they are taken by thoughtful, skilled photographers. You can be assured that many of the photos were taken with the phone on a tripod, with remote shutter release, and, exposure bracketing thrown in for good measure.

Unless stated otherwise, the photos were retouched on Photoshop. So, if you want to take a good photo, you need to take a good photo. It’s just a computer! You mentioned the quality of the Xperia Z camera and in another post quality with poor lighting.

Honestly this is the biggest problem for the Sony. I have a Z and it was fantastic in good light but as soon as it got a little dim forget it. But forget shooting a candid shot, or even a person in low light.

By contrast the Note7 camera in the same conditions would take amazing photos. It was like chalk and cheese. So please, don’t compare the old Xperia Z camera with modern ones. It’s not in the same ballpark.

Yes I know modern sounds weird in this context, considering we’re only talking about a 3 year gap. But it’s still a huge difference. So from what I gather with the reviews of the Xperia XZ and previous Sony phones this may be the exact problem.

Until now most of the DxOMark reviews of Sony phones are stellar because I suspect the hardware is stronger than the competition and under optimal conditions with photographer-knowledge settings the photos turn out great.

However, that’s not how the mass-market is using camera phones. Your average user is going to point and shoot at whatever the fancy, from whatever angle, most likely without a tripod, and quite likely without Photoshopping.

And in reality that’s what a camera phone’s purpose is — because I’m going to imagine the vast majority of camera phone photos are snapped without a tripod. So even though Superior Auto or whatever the default camera setting is may be lazy mode, it’s the mode that most people are taking photos in, and probably the best thing to base reviews off for tech blogs even if that’s not how you you specifically use your phone.

So even though Superior Auto or whatever the default camera setting is may be lazy mode, it’s the mode that most people are taking photos in, and probably the best thing to base reviews off.

From the gist of all the reviews I’ve read, the camera isn’t so great not flagship great when using the standard settings, but if you’re willing to tinker with the manual settings then you can possibly take some really killer looking photos.

These things could be improved by software updates could they not? You’d think so considering isn’t Sony camera hardware found in most other phones, yet they take better pics.

On another note I just picked up my new XZ after handing in the Note 7. I’m going to set it up and have a play before posting some thoughts. Just try and forget you ever used the Note or you might make us think the Xperia is no good.

Haha I’ll be honest the very first thoughts I had was ‘ OK this isn’t as good ‘, but that’s fine I wasn’t expecting it to be on par. Ken, for the love of all things Sony, if you are going to quote another Whirlpool user’s quotes, then, have the courtesy to produce the actual quote.

Low light performance is mentioned. It appears at The photos were fine! Yes, I could had taken much better photos with a SLR on a tripod. It has to be said that the Xperia Z was Sony’s first attempt of a camera phone which could seriously compete with the class leaders of Samsung S3, and, Apple iPhone 5.

As it turned out, the competition were relatively better performers. So, more informed users would had been aware of this back in This awareness relates to knowledge, which corresponds to skill, and, expertise.

Taking photos is a skill. When photographers become hung up over specs, and, how somehow having the latest, bleeding edge specs will make one a better photographer is really missing the point.

Yes, it’s always male drivers. But, you put Lewis Hamilton in a rubbish Daewoo Lacetti on a wet Top Gear Track, and, he can churn out leading lap times, while he is singing to himself.

Looking at the video, you would think he was just driving to the shops. The spectacular Nat Geo photos taken before the s were totally without the benefit of digital cameras. In terms of image quality the Xperia Z5 is, presumably mainly due to the new sensor, an improvement over the previous Xperia Z models we have tested and among the very best smartphone cameras.

The Sony Xperia Z5 is an easy recommendation for all mobile photographers who want excellent image detail and a smartphone that handles well as a camera. As for these advanced techniques to make quality example stock photos, you can be certain that Sony, Samsung, Huawei, and, Apple do the same.

Unless they state otherwise. For the photo studio tests, then this is to be expected, to ensure fair, balanced, and, transparent results which are repeatable. Sound reviews of a camera will include practical test photos taken outdoors, to also measure everyday performance in the field.

DP Review certainly does this. If you want to take “killer” looking photos, you need killer photography skills. Haven’t taken any shots at night with xz so might try tonight and compare.

So xperias need to compensate via software. Xz doesnt have OIS either. It has that 5 axis thing that helps with videos but not so much still photos. My phone is overheating and shutting features down while taking photo’s indoors.

Sony’s camera has been overheating since It lasts several minutes before it shuts down. But my point is, usually overheating wouldn’t be due to regional roms, i highly doubt Telstra would change the rom to that extent.

My partner has one of these phones on preorder. No stock so could be a week or two. You’ll have to let us know how it is after a few days use. Photo’s inside however, aren’t very impressive.

Half of them are blurry I’m standing still and the colours look washed out. I’m really hoping there are some settings I can fiddle with to make this better, or else I’m in for a very long contract.

I’ve been playing with the camera more tonight swapping out or trying new settings and I’ve been getting much better low light shots. It would seem the camera is capable of decent photo’s but it does take a little fiddling.

I didn’t quote all your posts because there were multiple and yes I’m well aware of which posts they were. And I stand by my comments. If the subject is boring, the composition is that bland, the lighting so dire, no amount of the image processor calculations can turn a sow’s ear into a silk purse.

You talk about the Sony phones having great cameras and make a point of saying even as far back as the Z they were great which you yourself requoted. This is not true — in all conditions.

The Z particularly is great in normal light, they’re mediocre in poor light. Trying to blame the person taking the photo when you had other phones producing better low light pictures than Sony is wrong.

Who cares about a boring subject, or bland composition. They have no bearing on whether the image is legible. I should at least be able to look at the photo and say “oh it’s a crappy photo, but it looks nice” not “what is it?

I can’t make it out At no point have I mentioned specs or been caught up over them at least not in regard to the camera. All I care about is getting decent quality photos with it. By that I mean I should be able to look at the picture and be able to see what it is clearly.

To be honest, you seem to be hung up on the idea of specs — that the Sony camera is the best if you just take a heap of time to adjust the settings and you’re a professional photographer.

Yoza makes a great point that we’re not talking about DSLRs here we’re talking about phones with a camera and the typical user is expecting a smart auto mode to produce decent shots.

I’m not saying the camera in the XZ is the same but don’t use a poor example to suggest the new one will be good. It weakens your argument and makes people me at least doubt what you’re saying.

That’s why I said leave the Z and older cameras out of your comments. Or hell, at the very least qualify your comments with “in good conditions”. Roughly how long were you using it?

Lots of photos or just a couple before it got hot? Was it doing anything else like charging the battery or downloading updates at the time? How bad is bad on the pics?

Do you mind linking a few? I’d like to see what they’re like with out of the box settings. And if you manage to tweak the settings to get better performance would you mind posting some of the pics and settings so we could compare?

OK I just tried it again. I’m currently in an air-conditioned office and hadn’t touched the phone for about 30 minutes. I opened the camera and it took 32 photo’s of my desk before getting the following overheating warning.

As above I’m just in the office and hadn’t touched the phone for at least half an hour. Before that I was setting up some apps, Steam, Gmail, etc. Was never a problem for the Samsung.

With kids etc you want to take photo’s pretty quick sometimes. When it happened earlier today I was at home taking photo’s of my dogs to try the camera out. I did watch a YouTube video where the guy said something similar that it was horrible for a short time and then fixed itself.

Both phones were really responsive. Could try a factory reset. I usually do this with any phone if I have an ongoing issue that isn’t really common among other users. Of course it may not solver anything, so you may have gotten a lemon.

Take it back and swap it under ELF. I have this on my Z5C when I do rapid fire shots with custom animation on. Heats up and becomes unresponsive. Video makes the phone hot to touch after 5 minutes and shut s dowm.

Playing devils advocate you could say that most of the time people won’t shoot that many that fast, but it really shouldn’t heat up so badly that quickly. Can we get any other early adopters with the phone to do a similar test?

It’d be good to know if this is happening across all phones or if it’s a single bad phone. Oh yeah — I also tried 60fps recording. It’s strange, all the other phone would have extreme fluidity once this is activated except the XZ.

Could you perhaps try if you have a sec pls Jax? I really wanted to like this more cause it is priced much better than the pixel XL, but tbh nothing seems to have changed since the Z5P, except the metal shell.

Hey I’ve been playing around with the settings and as a result have been getting some better pics. To me it seems the ‘ point and click ‘ capabilities for this phone aren’t as refined or efficient as the rival phones just my early opinion, but things do get better with a little tinkering, and that does line up with a lot of the reviews I was reading.

I’m still not happy with how easy it is to over heat the phone. When it happened for the first time earlier today I was only taking photo’s of my dogs playing like I’ve done with every other phone, but I’ve never had an issue like this.

I’m going to keep playing around with it overnight but if it’s still doing it tomorrow I’ll take it back in to Telstra to swap for another XZ. Seems strange I’ve not read of anyone else having any issues so I’m hoping it might just be my phone.

It is incumbent for you to produce these quotes, Ken, if you are to be a critic. This is fundamental critical writing practice. If you cannot be bothered to show the quotes, then, how can the people who read your response can be confident with your claims?

Without proof, then your claims can only be treated as hearsay. This thinking that “I’m well aware” of the posts in question, but, cannot produce this proof, is apathetic at best.

There would be many Xperia Z owners, ranging from casual users, to true enthusiasts, who were happy with the Z’s camera performance, under a range of lighting conditions.

I have owned all of these Xperia models, with the Z5 briefly. I did skip the Z1. The cameras in all of these were fine. By and large, my Xperia Z photos taken in low light were usable.

The trick to taking better low light photos with any camera steady in your hands, or, rested on something solid. Keeping a SLR steady is a skill which comes with practice.

When lighting conditions are poor, take more photos as a hedge. Even when lighting conditions are good, take more photos! That is like saying one had a crash in a Daewoo Lacetti as it is a rubbish car.

Well, it is a rubbish car. But, either way, a camera, and, a vehicle are both machines. The user should be aware of the machine’s limitations, then, use the machine accordingly. I did say that Sony makes great cameras.

What I certainly did not say was that the Sony always make perfect cameras. This is an important distinction. There are no perfect cameras, as there are no perfect machines, in general. Everything is a compromise.

People who are serious with photography certainly do care about these critical aspects. As the old art saying goes: A digital camera is at the end of the day, a computer. A computer can only calculate, and, compare numbers.

There are so many variables in a photo that the computer cannot accommodate every aspect. Furthermore, putting HDR aside, the camera can only has a few hundredths of a second to calculate the correct single exposure.

Most of the time, the computer has enough data, from which it compares to the the library of known photo scenes, and, scenarios that it can then decide on the appropriate shutter speed, aperture, and, ISO setting.

When the automatic exposure is not what was intended, then, the user needs to adjust one of the settings. Furthermore, more post-shooting adjustment work may be required on the phone, or, on the PC.

To sum up, if you want perfect photos you expect, then, be prepared to do fine tuning work on the image. Again, I never said this! I never said that the XZ will be objectively better than any Xperia before it.

My guess is that 23MP stills, and, 4K video is still too much for the current phones to handle for too long. So, assuming that Sony would supply Samsung, and, Apple with 23MP sensors as well, it could be said that both manufacturers thought that the nearly double resolution sensor gains are not worth it.

Just setting mine up now will report back later. It is a great looking and feeling handset though.. I had a play with the XZ at Telstra this evening too. Didn’t like the fact that it was warm to the touch the instant I picked it up.

It was playing the Sony demo on loop so it’s understandable that it’d be warmish. But none of the other display phones I picked up that were playing demo loops were anywhere near as warm. After having an admittedly short play with it I’ve decided I’m going to hold off.

I think this phone needs a month in the wild and some real people reviews before I’d be comfortable buying it. Maybe it’ll improve, maybe the XZ2 will be better.

Back to the Xperia Z. The good news is I discovered today that it accepts GB memory cards. Not bad for a nearly 4 year old phone. I think you’re right. I just changed mine back down to 8MP and must have taken around 60 quick photo’s without any issues.

Lovin it after 1 hour so far, just installing apps and so on. No lag, no warmth. Plenty of Pixels though: For those who are curious, my Forest Blue Xperia XZ from Sony AU arrived yesterday and I can confirm that they do not come with a quick charger mine came with UCH20, which is apparently the standard charger supplied with some Z5 units.

Ha Sony up to its old tricks again. It’s a software bug due to the phone sensing the heat from the aluminium and then not realising the phone has cooled down.

I use to get that heaps on my Z3. Restart usually did the trick if not factory reset. If you are concerned then just go for a replacement. But it will most likely happen again.

The weather won’t have a significant impact in the heat management of your phone. Sony phones in general get warm as Sony has never properly learnt how to design a phone that can disperse heat from a central location throughout the aluminium build.

I refuse to see why Sony has not copied Apples approach When you buy a sony phone, you know you will have a phone camera ranked in the top 5 at the time and the difference between all technically is like splitting hairs.

Yeah I’m thinking it’s probably just a limitation of the phone. I don’t seem to have any issues when the camera is set to 8MP, so it’s like there is just too much heat when using the phone in 23MP mode for too many shots in one quick sitting.

This thinking that “I’m well aware” of the posts in question, but, cannot produce this proof, is apathetic at best. You are really hoping that the store is honourable. SONY did not actually fix the phones. Divya says 7 years ago. Remember, your phone has the free internal memory before installing the update.

This awareness relates to knowledge, which corresponds to skill, and, expertise. Depending on the saving the phone lifetime can be reduced proportionally and I’ll still feel like I’ve got a good deal. Sony Centre in Tottenham court road tried telling me it was my fault.

They are in a race to get the market share without focus on quality hardware engineering. On the camera front it has a 2 megapixel rear and VGA front camera. We will see shortly. My current one has had it occur on average every 2 months.

I’ll wait one more week, and if Sony Australia continues to be bloody hopeless and have no idea about the release date, then Clove it is for the blue XZ. XZ looks real nice. I will never buy Sony again, terrible attitude towards customers, fucking shit company! If so, they might actually be sensor burn-ins or something similar, I had this with my first XZ. See…
