Previous Image Next Image. This is no bad thing, but it does mean that the OnePlus 3 misses out on the QHD resolutions that feature on modern flagship phones. It’s got a great design, plenty of power and a big enough feature set to make it a genuine flagship contending — but it won’t cost you anywhere near as much. We’ve put the two handsets head to head to bring you all the answers. The OnePlus 2 gives almost two days of battery life with a mAh cell, while the OnePlus X survives for just over a day from a single charge of the mAh battery. The OnePlus 2 boasts a removable cover that can be swapped out for a fresh new design, including a very funky bamboo casing.

We compare the OnePlus 3 to last year’s OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X, to see how they stack up in terms of specs, battery life, performance, camera tech and more. Should you upgrade to the OnePlus 3?

Here’s our full comparison review. Or if you’re simply after a OnePlus mobile, which one is best for you? When it comes to design, the OnePlus X is the baby of the bunch at just 5-inches. That means it’s easier to handle than the 5.

The OnePlus 2 boasts a removable cover that can be swapped out for a fresh new design, including a very funky bamboo casing. However, we’re more in love with the aluminum plating of the OnePlus 3, which is super-sturdy and also very attractive.

It’s reminiscent of the HTC One M9 design, which is no bad thing in our book, but nice and slender to boot. The obvious difference between the OnePlus 3, 2 and X displays is their size.

The latest OnePlus handset and last year’s OnePlus 2 both sport a 5. All three phones boast a Full HD resolution, so photos, high-def video and everything else looks nice and crisp.

But if you’re into rich colours, then the vibrant OnePlus 3 and OnePlus X displays will please the most. Got a massive media collection you wish to carry around? The OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3 don’t have expandable storage, so you might want to give them a pass.

Thankfully the OnePlus X supports microSD memory cards, so you can load it up with movies, music and more. If security is a big thing for you, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2 have built-in fingerprint sensors which can be used to quickly and securely unlock your phone.

The soft gold option will be available in the second half of July and there are a range of cases available including Bamboo, Karbon, Black Apricot, Rosewood, and Sandstone.

From the front, the new handset looks almost identical to another smartphone: Both phones feature a rounded home button that houses the fingerprint scanner and a front-facing camera on the top part of the bezel.

The only discernible difference is that the front-facing camera has switched sides between models, from right to left. The similarities between the two end as soon as you flip the phones over.

It seems the new model is significantly thinner and slightly lighter. The OnePlus 3 comes with a 5. This is no bad thing, but it does mean that the OnePlus 3 misses out on the QHD resolutions that feature on modern flagship phones.

Still, both the OnePlus 3 and 2 feature a ppi density, which, although lower than many top-end smartphones the Galaxy S7 has a ppi density is exactly the same as the iPhone 6S Plus. By submitting your details, you will also receive emails from Time Inc.

UK, publisher of Trusted Reviews and other iconic brands about its goods and services, and those of its carefully selected third parties. However, one significant difference between the OnePlus 2 and 3 is the display technology itself.

This is different to LCD, which uses a backlight to illuminate the pixels. I would never recommend this company based on that alone. I had a phone with a manufacturer defect that literally took me months to get a replacement.

The replacement although new, had a separate issue and I eventually gave up, and got a upgrade from my carrier. My OnePlus now sits on my desk unused. Is poor customer service the only thing holding you back from buying one of their phones, though?

At the time, without a doubt. But now that I’m used to my 6p, there is no comparison. Interresting, but somehow I’m just not into the OnePlus. I think Xiaomi did a way better job with many of it’s phones.

Xiaomi has certainly shown off some great stuff recently. I’m looking forward to seeing what OnePlus has to offer! This website uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience on our website.

Interestingly, there’s whispers that the OnePlus 3 could be unlocked via iris-recognition. We’ll have to wait and see if these theories ring true. Front-facing speakers are spotted below the screen on this alleged OnePlus 3 image.

The image paints a different picture to a leaked picture spotted last month, which is said to show a ‘dummy unit’ with thicker bezels, a different UI and an all-black body.

Despite some boasting from the OnePlus camp with regards to brightness, the display of the OnePlus 2 looks fairly standard. A feature unique to OxygenOS means that the color temperature of the screen can be adjusted to protect your eyes during late-night use, which is a nice touch.

It’s rather important to note the price of the OnePlus 2 when pointing out weaknesses, but even so the screen of the smartphone is a little underwhelming. It offers a good experience, but not much more.

According to a leaked screenshot, the OnePlus 3 will drop with a p display. Information on the screen of the upcoming OnePlus gadget is scarce at the time of writing, but the same screenshot noting the display also touches upon some internal specs.

Considering the mediocre display on the OnePlus 2, our fingers are crossed that OnePlus delivers an improved performance with its next handset. Whilst the smartphone gets a little hot when it’s tackling high-intensity games and apps, the gadget doesn’t get so warm that it’s unusable.

We’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t the speediest smartphone around, but even so performance is solid overall. OnePlus has done a top job of delivering a lag-free experience with the OnePlus 2, and our fingers are crossed that the OnePlus 3 delivers the goods in this area too.

On top of that, the mystery smartphone is said to be rocking a Snapdragon chipset coupled with an Adreno GPU. We expect that the rumored Snapdrgon inside the OnePlus 3 will deliver brilliant performance, setting it apart from previous members of the OnePlus family.

From our time experimenting with the tool, results are impressive, although you’ll need a steady hand for the feature to be effective. The front-facing 5 MP camera on the OnePlus 2 doesn’t offer much of an improvement in performance from the OnePlus One, so there’s not too much to say here.

Image quality is decent, but it’s nothing to write home about. There’s no information online regarding the OnePlus 3’s camera at the time of writing, but if we were putting together a wishlist we’d certainly include improved performance from the front camera.

As OxygenOS develops and OnePlus adds more functionality to its cameras, the experience will improve. Our fingers are crossed that the camera technology tucked inside the OnePlus 3 is the best the Chinese group has put together so far.

OxygenOS on the OnePlus 2 is a tweaked take on Android that manages to maintain a fairly ‘clean’ look whilst also offering some unique features of its own. Fans of theming their devices will feel right at home here, considering it’s possible to adjust the OnePlus 2’s menu colors, and elsewhere the various audio tweaks available are fun to play around with.

The OnePlus 3 meets them in the middle with a mAh battery which promises close to two days of life, and we’ll be testing this in full for our OnePlus 3 review.

The OnePlus 3 also boasts OnePlus’ new ‘Dash Charge’ feature, which allows you to get an impressive 60 percent charge in just 30 minutes. This closely rivals Qualcomm’s own Quick Charge 3.

Sadly the OnePlus X has an old-school micro USB port, which means that you’ll likely spend a minute or two trying to jab the cable in when you suddenly remember at 3am that your phone needs charging.

The OnePlus X’s megapixel rear camera is fast and reliable, capturing bright and realistic snaps across a range of conditions with help from the built-in HDR feature.

You can shoot up to Full HD resolution video which also comes out well, despite a lack of image stabilisation. The OnePlus 2 offers a step up in camera tech, although it’s once again a megapixel shooter.

This time around you can shoot up to 4K video and there’s built-in image stabilisation too, to help cut down on judder. The OnePlus 3 boosts the specs to a megapixel shooter, which again can shoot 4K and comes with an improved HDR mode.

We’ll be testing it out in full for our OnePlus 3 camera review. As for selfies, all three phones here offer a decent front-facing camera with a fairly wide-angle lens, so you can effortlessly capture a group shot.

The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus X both sport an 8-megapixel camera which really packs a lot of detail into every shot, while the OnePlus 2’s 5-megapixel snapper also does an admirable job.

Design When it comes to design, the OnePlus X is the baby of the bunch at just 5-inches. Both the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 2 have 5. That’s the same ppi pixel density then, but where the OnePlus 2 is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, the OnePlus 3 has the tougher Gorilla Glass 4 slapped on top.

The difference is noticeable, and it makes everything look better. OnePlus has gone as far as to tweak the display in-house, creating what it calls Optic AMOLED, which in short means deeper blacks and more vibrant reds for what it believes is an enhanced viewing experience.

It looks good, but this tinkering isn’t immediately obvious. One of the cornerstones of the OnePlus ‘Never Settle’ philosophy is packing top-notch power into its handsets.

In that was a stellar line-up, but the chip had a few gremlins which gave some users a poorer experience. That’s a whole lot of power, and while you’re unlikely to need that much RAM currently, it leaves the door open for app developers to push their creativity even further.

Oxygen is a fairly light Android skin, keeping the look and feel of Google’s operating system while adding in handy extra features. Since its launch, the OnePlus 2 has been upgraded to Android 6.

That latest update brings the OnePlus 2 in line with the software offering on the OnePlus 3. On screen there’s nothing to separate the two handsets, but with its additional power and AMOLED display the OnePlus 3 delivers a slicker, brighter, more colorful Android experience.

It’s a serviceable camera, but it couldn’t compete with the best of the flagships, let alone get close to the quality of the bunch.

The firm’s latest flagship phone comes with a 3,mAh battery, as OnePlus slims down the metal body to a svelte 7. With its slightly smaller battery the OnePlus 3 just about sees out a full day with moderate usage, but it’s the OnePlus 2 which manages the feat a little more easily.

The OnePlus 2 was originally available in 16GB and 64GB variants, but now you can only get it in the larger storage size. Space has always been a limiting factor with OnePlus handsets, with the Chinese startup opting to steer clear of expandable storage options — which means there’s no microSD slot on the OnePlus 2.

It’s a similar story with the OnePlus 3, which again doesn’t feature a microSD slot. OnePlus 2 vs OnePlus 3: Meizu Pro 7 Plus 64GB: Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Dual: The bigger the screen size is, the better the user experience.

That is a huge intangible that you don’t find out about until its too late. The OnePlus 3 is official, and it’s fantastic – with a premium design, a whole heap of power and a still attractively low price tag.
