Lenovo Yoga 3 14 review: The Bottom Line With better battery life and performance than the Yoga 3 Pro not to mention a lower price, the Yoga 3 14 is one of the best hybrid deals around. We wouldn’t recommend taking the Yoga to a coffee shop unless it’s already charged, as you’ll have to sit right next to the outlet. The Yoga 3 14 isn’t as thin or as light or as stylish though that’s subjective, of course as some of its competition or the Yoga 3 Pro. Unfortunately I don’t think there is an Fn Lock funciton. What’s new for the line is the inch screen size, which is all the more impressive because Lenovo squeezed it into a body roughly the size of a

I can see the little touch circles appear all over the screen when my hands arent even touching the computer. Obviously when this is happening it renders the computer useless cause everything gets clicked and all I can do to stop it is force shut it down.

Did it always do this? What happened prior to it starting? I suggest calling Lenovo support. Well, Thanks for responding! And as far as the touch screen issue goes, as far as I can remember it started happening after maybe the second or third time I flipped it to tablet mode.

I have never dropped it, or anything. I have issue number 1 as well. I’ve set it so that Fn key is needed to send F1 F2 etc but it reverts back by itself to the other setting needing Fn to activate vol controls etc.

Unfortunately I don’t think there is an Fn Lock funciton. Havent contacted customer support yet, but I can add that now my touch screen isnt working period. I dont know if this relates to anything in any way, but my external wireless mouse no longer works either.

This model only just started selling and already quite a few reports of hardware issues. I hope you get a replacement which works as it should. The Pro’s performance with the Core M was underwhelming as was the system’s battery life.

If you can afford to spend a bit more, you can currently get a Yoga 3 14 with a 2. The Yoga 3 14 isn’t as thin or as light or as stylish though that’s subjective, of course as some of its competition or the Yoga 3 Pro.

The screen is a mixed bag. The extra work space is certainly a plus, especially in a body that looks and feels more like a inch laptop. The 1,x1,pixel resolution keeps text and graphics looking sharp and it’s an IPS panel, too, giving you excellent off-angle viewing.

Unfortunately, the display just doesn’t get very bright. That wouldn’t be so bad if the screen handled glare well, but it doesn’t. While shutting off the system’s adaptive brightness feature helps some, in the end anyone needing to use this regularly outdoors might want to pass.

The keyboard is spacious and generally nice to type on, though I found it a bit spongy and there’s some slight flex in the middle. Touch typists might need some time to adjust. The keyboard is backlit, too, but has just two settings: Below the keyboard you’ll find one big clickpad with areas for left and right clicks, but no discrete buttons.

It gets the job done, but you’ll likely want to dive into the settings and fine-tune the sensitivity, palm check and multitouch gesture support to your liking.

On the bottom left and right you’ll find small speakers. The pair of hinges proved sturdy: We experienced no wobble when tapping and swiping the touch screen, and had no problem rotating the display and propping the laptop in its tent and stand modes.

As usual, Lenovo includes some thoughtful touches for using the Yoga 3 14 as a tablet. Rotating the screen past degrees automatically disables the keyboard so you won’t accidentally begin typing as your fingers press against the downward-facing keys, and the power button is on the side of the laptop rather than on the deck so you can switch on the system if the keyboard is flipped around.

Weighing in at 3. We imagine that, like us, most users will only use the Yoga as a tablet when it’s in their lap, or perhaps reading in bed with the device propped on their knees.

Nevertheless, at just 0. The only serious problem with the Yoga’s design is its extremely short power cord. When we used the laptop in bed, the cord barely reached the outlet a couple of feet away.

We wouldn’t recommend taking the Yoga to a coffee shop unless it’s already charged, as you’ll have to sit right next to the outlet. The Yoga 3 14 offers a decent port selection.

On the left side, there’s the power jack which doubles as a USB 2. For connectivity, the Yoga provides We were very impressed with the Lenovo’s inch display.

Although it isn’t the very brightest we’ve seen, colors pop off the screen and viewing angles are generous. Moreover, we applaud the decision to forswear 3,x1, or other ultra-high resolution in favor of a full HD 1,x1, panel.

Text and visuals look perfectly crisp, and the screen doesn’t suffer from any of the scaling issues that plagued the Yoga 3 Pro. The bottom-mounted JBL speakers deliver rich, full-bodied sound.

They sound clear, certainly good enough for casual listening in quiet environments. They don’t get very loud, even if you flip the keyboard back behind the screen so they fire up.

For movie and music enjoyment, you’re better off hooking up some headphones or a set of external speakers. The company adds a 4K display to its inch Spectre x and only battery life suffers.

We liked the keyboard’s backlighting, but were otherwise disappointed. While it exhibits little flex, the keyboard suffers from shallow vertical travel. As a result, typing feels mushy and indistinct.

Worse, Lenovo crammed the Home key next to Backspace, which frequently caused us press the former when we aimed for the latter. It’s a far cry from the superb AccuType keyboards for which the Lenovo brand is known.

Thankfully, the touch pad proved much more reliable. Measuring 4 by 2. The pad doesn’t require excessive force to depress, and clicks are pleasantly quiet. Besides ubiquitous Windows 8 apps like Amazon and Evernote Touch, the Yoga 3 14 is relatively free of bloatware.

Lenovo-branded applications include Lenovo Settings, a control panel that lets you adjust your camera, keyboard and other features; Lenovo Motion Control, which allows you to control videos and pictures with hand gestures; and OneKey Optimizer, a tool for deleting junk files, boosting the startup speed, and downloading the latest software updates.

There’s also Yoga Harmony, a utility that tracks how often you use each of the Yoga’s four modes, remembers your favorite applications, and suggests popular Windows 8 apps. Harmony also automatically tweaks some settings depending on the app you’re currently using—adjusting the screen brightness, for instance, when you open an e-book.

Although Windows 8 neophytes might find Harmony useful, we weren’t particularly impressed with it. ComputerShopper may earn affiliate commissions from shopping links included on this page.
