There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. School has kept me busy recently so I haven’t had the time to sit down and publish a review, but I’ve had my Spectre for a little over a month now and I can honestly say I’m a huge fan of this laptop.

A little about me: I know, that seems like a low number, but if you look at the way they handle drivers on most consumer laptops very few show updates after it goes to production. All but one of my drivers has been updated since I bought this laptop which means they are still supporting it and making the software better.

That in itself should tell you that HP wants this laptop to do well. HP made this for users who are going to need a laptop that lasts and can complete heavy tasks. Let’s do a component breakdown: You can go to Best Buy and see it for yourself, but the one thing you cannot do at Best Buy is color calibration which is included in the software on this PC.

It refreshes at 60Hz and there is no sign of ghosting at all. It is Pen enabled! I personally use this for note taking in class with OneNote and it does very well. There is a con, but I’ll cover that below.

As for finger touches, it totally gets them and I’ve never had an issue utilizing the touch screen for any commands. Also, in tablet mode the keyboard keys are disabled so once you fold it all the way back you can hold it however you need to.

It is an annoyance at best, but it had to be mentioned. I picked up the screen protector sold on here and it didn’t reduce glare at all, but does well for protecting the screen. You can combat glare by raising the brightness past a certain level, but you sacrifice battery life to do so.

The con for the Dell Venue pen is how close the tip has to be to the screen to have it be detected. This could be an issue with the pen and not the laptop, but in OneNote sometimes I have to touch the screen with the tip before it is detected.

Strong, smudge resistance, lightweight, and really thin. The charging port does not use large size HP charger, it uses a smaller port 4. Has a charging LED right under it that is orange while charging and white when full.

It has three USB 3. One one the left side and two on the right. Fan intakes are on the bottom and runs basically the length of the laptop and they feed a single fan that outputs on the back left side of the laptop.

There is also metal volume and windows buttons for operating the laptop in tablet mode and there is an almost flush metal power button for quick turn on and suspension.

Only other thing I can think to mention is the hinges which have proven to be very well designed over all. I was a bit concerned since I use it in tablet mode so often that I would wear out the tension that allows it to rest at almost any angle.

I’ve used it extensively the past month and it has the same tension as I bought it with, which is great. HP included a soft black neoprene? It is meant to protect the body from scratches, but it won’t take a fall so don’t count on that.

This means that when plugged in you get the power of the i7 and when unplugged it throttles back to give you tablet battery life. Computer boots up from cold to login screen in 4 seconds.

My friends and I counted. The graphics card is the Intel HD and is capable of running Skyrim on low and a few other 3D games in lower fornat, but you’re not going to run anything with maxed settings.

Most all casual or tablet games should still land you several hours of battery life. Ran temperature tests with RealTemp and Prime95 and never exceeded 75C which is about 30 degrees under shutdown temps for that processor.

Most often you won’t hear it because the system unplugged won’t pull much power, but if you’re doing heavy work mine spins up and you can tell it is on. I have no issues of touching the touchpad while typing because it is depressed into the chassis and it all of the synaptics movements two finger scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, etc all happen smoothly.

My fingers glide easily over the touchpad and it doesn’t show the oil from my fingers which is great! Touchpad is enormous and there is a right and left click, but you have to click way to the right to activate it.

Or you can tap with two fingers to right-click like on a Mac. There is also a backlighting key that stays lit so if you are noticing that it is getting dark in the area you are working in you can always easily find the backlight key.

When backlighting is on all the keys illuminate and it works well in dimly lit to dark rooms. When you press the key to turn backlighting off the backlight key stays lit which bothers some.

Again, I like this feature because I don’t normally work in well lit areas, but others may find it annoying. The best I ever got consecutively was The P screen will get you the maximum battery life that you can get where the p will likely cost you between hours of battery to push the extra pixels.

I recommend the p screen for the average college student so they aren’t tethered to the wall between classes. I’ll be doing another full battery test soon that doesn’t include draw from the USB port, but I can assure you that for once a manufacturer got close to its claimed battery life using their recommended power settings.

Dollar for dollar you get better hardware and more features while costing less than a Macbook or Air. For me, this was the best use of my money and is serving me well every day.

If you’re the resourceful type you might even be able to run OSX on it. It will require some work, but it is possible. That’s all from me; I hope this helped! Comment people found this helpful.

Or do you think the u is powerful enough for that kind of work? The three sites are ThinkorSwim, Tradestation, and Schwab trader platform. Thank you for the information! The i7 U proves a way out of expensive laptops, but im not sure if this will bite me in the back end later.

Any opinion on my standpoint? Not sure what kind of software you might need to run. I want a fast and responsive ultraportable laptop with 8gb or more ram and latest 6th generation processors….

Pls could you help me put. I want to chose between u and u and MQ and U. I work with engineering software and high cost function problem like comsol, abaqus. Dell inspiron 6th gen i7 — u 16gb memory vs Dell inspiron quad core 12gb memory best for play Karaoke music?

Asking because the broadwell i7 is cheaper currently… Thanks! Performance wise, the two should be on par, with the iU packing more powerful graphics and a more capable video-decorder that can handle HEVC or 4K content smoother and more efficiently.

My usage is a few hours a day of multi tab web surfing tabs, while streaming music. And sometimes recording music only around tracks simultaneously. Mostly 1 track at a time, without any heavy software synths.

I would gladly add the Extra money for the i7 but I noticed u wrote it gets hotter and is less efficient…. Is the heat difference noticeable? Since it looks like the performance of the i5 is similar to the i7 5th gen, I would think it would be enough for me.

Other than that, both computers are exactly identical. The i7 will get only slightly hotter and might eat a bit more battery in daily use, but in reality the i5 and the i7 are very similar, with minor differences in terms of max CPU and GPU frequencies and the amount of cache RAM.

IN other words, the temps and battery life should not stop you from getting the i7. The price difference could though, especially if you plan to use the difference to get an SSD, which is going to have a major impact on performance.

All those above are built on dual-core platforms, which are fast enough for daily tasks and offer good battery life. My old processor served me well and was fast enough for my needs despite multi-tasking quite a bit.

Do let me know if you have any advise for me, thanks! Deepends how complex those Photoshop projects are? Yeah i do wish i can purchase a quad with ssd as well but for now its out of my budget.

Thanks for your advice! Do u recommend iU to handle software like autocad, Rhino and render image software. Or I should I Built a new a deskstop from scratch? Hello man im thinking of buying this laptop dell.

What do you think is a good purchase??? The Dell is a very solid pick. But these might be more expensive than the Dell. I want to upgraded this laptop processor celeron to 5i U or U.

Isnt posible to upgraded?? The former has a 6th-gen i7 U while the latter has the 4th-gen i7 HQ. Which one will be sufficient in heavily running Photoshop and light usage of video editing program? Or browser with hundreds of tabs open?

I know that the quad core-equipped laptop has the edge, but will there be a performance gain given the generations that each CPU belong to? For future-proofing, how will Haswell fare?

Information and reviews about the Vivobook VMU is scarce. The sensible decision for me is to not gamble my money on the untested Vivobook. THis is a very good review: The GLJX has been discontinued in our region.

I am planning new ultra portable laptop to replace my old one. I need it for music production and work. I mean would it compare to my PC? My main gripe is that i7 is 2 core and my i5 is 4 core.

For work I use external monitor and keyboard. I was considering Surface Pro 4 as well without keyboard. Maybe some other ultra portables to recommend? I understand that you will not have benchmark results but would appreciate your educated estimations.

Derek is more familiar with Razer laptosp and he owns the Core as well, you should see these two posts: Hi, Really glad I found this site as I have not been able to find any real information on what this processor is truly capable of.

Pretty much purely structural steel. However the more I read about this processor being a 2 core the more worried I am that I need something with a better quad core processor. Everything else is exactly what I wanted and like I said I thought I got a steal of a price.

I have just heard of bottlenecking recently. Is the 16gb useless with a processor like the i7 u; would get the same results as a 8 or 12gb? HI, if I understand correctly, you already have this laptop, so you can actually test how it works with that particular software or your Autocad Loads.

Try to think of a more demanding use scenario and see how it copes. Compared to your older config, the new should be faster, not by a whole lot though, since this is a Core U platform and that was a more powerful version at its time.

Bottom point, try the HP out with your use scenarios. If it works, keep it. If you want a more powerful modern laptop and can spend a little more, look for something with an HQ processor instead.

Autocad and other demanding apps would benefit though. Now my question, is this computer – visit the link – notebookcheck. To get the most out of it you should install an SSD in the spare M.

I am planning to buy a Dell with a i7 u processor and it comes with 5gb RAM. I am an archaeologist and currently only use my laptop for writing in Office Word, pdf lectures and easy work on Adobe Ilustrator.

Do you think is a good deal? Thanks for your time! I just bought a Dell Inspiron which has Intel i7 U. Does it get any dedicated graphics? If not, I don’t think you’ll be too happy with the performance in GTA even on the lowest settings and p resolution.

Unfortunately I’m only getting 3. Please which laptop can I use for gaming: Your email address will not be published. Notify me of followup comments via e-mail. You can also subscribe without commenting.

Was this review helpful to you? I’m good with this. Keypad is much easier to type with. You have to use a separate button to engage that feature and I need as few strokes as possible. Otherwise, resolution is terrific.

Been reliable so far. Small and light is a bottom line for me and this is nice. Comment 7 people found this helpful. Very light and sleek design – it is nice to look at and touch Screen touch, mouse pad, and keyboard responses set well upon opening – very comfortable Processing speed extremely fast, even when transferring large files and trying to run large models – speed and performance of SSD is as advertised Setup was very quick and easy Boot up extremely fast – again SSD performing better than traditional hard drive as expected Ordered on Sunday evening and received on Tuesday afternoon – very impressed with speed of delivery Cons: Still loving this laptop!

This is a very sleek and thin laptop. The only drawback that I could notice is that the battery life is not 12 hours as advertised and also the laptop gets lil heated up and then the fan noise can be heard.

While it is not a deal breaker, this does mean that you can expect slightly lower frame rates compared to the same card in a desktop PC. However you will easily and effortlessly be able to enjoy your favorite games such as Overwatch, Battlefield 1 and The Witcher on ultra settings.

The processor has an unlocked multiplier and can easily be overclocked, which gives it a massive advantage of the standard iHQ that is commonly found in most high-end gaming laptops.

Despite its effective cooling system, you should proceed with caution when overclocking your CPU. The Intel Core iHK has a lower clock speed than the iHQ, but with its unlocked multiplier it is easier to overclock and can be overclocked to a higher frequency.

Reviews have praised the GVY for its low temperatures and low fan noise levels thanks to its cleverly designed cooling system. It also comes with a Dust-release thermal solution, which is meant to prevent dust from building up on the internal components.

Poor battery life is part of the gaming pedigree and will mean plugging it in for the majority of its use. Most of the cheaper options have a balanced configuration of mid to low level specs enough to breeze through routine tasks, but their entry-level graphics only allow for more casual gaming.

So the surface pro 4 i7 will have a variation of this chipset, but includes a fan. The new retina macbook is fanless but seems to only have slightly lower performance. The Core U platforms are fan-cooled.

The Core M chips are fanless. I am a day trader and use three different charting software programs. However, I am wondering if it might be better to have the hq quad core as I will be using all 3 sites.
