The top performers in our review are the Gold Award winning Apple iPhone 7 Plus, the Silver Award winning Apple iPhone 7, and the Bronze Award winning OnePlus 3T. Here’s more on choosing a smartphone to meet your needs, along with details on how we arrived at our rankings of the 10 best devices. We’ve long since passed the point when people choose between smartphones and feature phones – dumb phones, as they’ve come to be called. Every major carrier and minor cell phone provider offers phones with touch screens and internet connectivity at virtually any price point – $600, $200, even $50. The question is no longer, “Should I buy a smartphone?” Rather, we now ask ourselves, “Which smartphone is best for me?”With rigorous testing and our trademark side-by-side comparisons, we’ve identified 2016’s best smartphones and ranked them for their processing power, battery life, camera quality and that almost intangible but extraordinarily important quality: design.Whenever a major manufacturer comes out with a new smartphone, we put it through its paces with an intense sequence of performance benchmarks. The phone’s display, processor, camera, battery life and unique features are each tested multiple times under identical conditions. Once we have our results, we compile them by Olympic average and aggregate them in the grades and scores you see above.Of course, while synthetic benchmarking can reflect the capacity of a smartphone, it doesn’t always reveal real-world performance. Consequently, we also run a series of real-world tests that simulate, as closely as possible, the experiences of a typical consumer. To obtain each smartphone in our comparison, we either received them on temporary loan from the manufacturers or purchased the phones outright. Manufacturers had no input or influence over our evaluation methodology nor was it provided to any of them in more detail than is available through our reviews. Results of our tests were not provided to the companies in advance of publication. The first decision you need to make when picking a smartphone is probably the easiest: Which operating system should you choose? Whatever their die-hard fans might say, Android isn’t better than iOS, and iOS isn’t better than Android. Both platforms have powerful advantages and some nitpicky disadvantages, and your choice comes down to personal preference. Do you want everything on your phone to just work, and are you willing to pay a bit of a premium for that? Go iOS. Do you like customization and buying on a budget? Pick Android. Already have a preference? It’s not wrong, so embrace it!Windows Mobile, recently rebranded by Microsoft from Windows Phone, is the odd platform out. The OS is about to see some extreme revamping thanks to the impending release of Windows 10, and once that happens, it could well be a serious contender in the market. Until that time comes, however, Windows Mobile isn’t as functional or reliable as Android or iOS. It takes more time and taps to do anything on a Windows Mobile device, and its app marketplace is dreadfully underwhelming. There are essentially three tiers of smartphones available from the major providers. Flagship phones are the top-tier, brand-defining devices you see ads for. They have impressive specifications and tons of raw power under the hood but are usually rather expensive off-contract, clocking in at around $600. Samsung’s Galaxy S series, HTC’s One series, and Apple’s iPhones are all flagship product lines.Budget phones are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Often available from prepaid cell phone providers, these devices can range anywhere from $0.99 to $100 but are usually around $40 or $50. They overwhelmingly run the Android operating system, though usually a generation or two behind the most recent version of the platform. Budget phones are functional: They have cameras, internet connectivity and the ability to stream music and video, but they often chug under heavy app loads and don’t have the same build quality as more expensive options.Midtier devices split the difference between flagship and budget. They range from $150 to $400 off-contract and run either Android or the Windows Mobile operating system. Midtier phones are what you think of when you say to yourself, “I don’t need the latest and greatest, just a phone that does what I need it to do.” A few phones, like Google’s Nexus line or the OnePlus series, are priced as midtier phones but deliver the power of flagships. There are dozens of recent smartphones on the market and well over a hundred once you account for older models still being sold. Picking the best for you can be a trying task, but we’ve made things easy. Here are our top recommendations:There’s no smartphone we’ve ever tested that’s as ridiculously fast as Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus. Driven by Apple’s custom A10 Fusion chip, which dynamically transfers processes between cores to optimize for both speed and battery life, the 7 Plus trounced our benchmarks and puts in surprisingly strong battery results to boot. With newly added water resistance and two rear-facing cameras with optical zoom and stabilization, it’s no wonder the iPhone 7 Plus is our top pick.Google’s first flagship entry in the smartphone market blew us away with its sure combination of speed and capability. Its camera is the finest you can find in a phone right now, edging out even Apple and Samsung and earning top marks from independent analysts. With extraordinary battery life and the best version of Android yet, we’re huge fans of the Pixel XL.The most recent OnePlus device, the OnePlus 3T costs hundreds less than similar phones from Apple and Samsung, but it screams past them in raw power, delivering better performance in our benchmarks than any other Android device we’ve ever tested. Thanks to a near-pure version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the OnePlus 3’s usability is top-notch, and its extra features like USB Type-C and a flawless fingerprint scanner make you feel like you’re on the cutting edge. Add to all this the phone’s superb build quality, and you’ve got a device that anyone can love.If you’re still having trouble choosing the right device for your needs, try reading some of the articles on smartphones we’ve written up. Between them and the comparison chart above, you should have no problem picking a phone to be your in-pocket companion for the next couple of years.

You’re right, I hit the wrong “reply” button. Unfortunately, I can’t suggest anything, phone-wise. My only recommendation would be to look for the phone with the best screen size and resolution in your price range, running the most recent version of Android, and with the fastest processor. You also need to check that it has an accelerometer — that’s the sensor that tells the phone which way you’ve turned it.

Huawei’s high-end phone is no shrinking violet. It is big – 5.9-inches – and is made out of aluminum and glass, giving it a premium feel. Its understated design is also elegant. Under its hood lurks Huawei’s fastest processor, the Kirin 960, and it also packs 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. It runs Android Nougat and sports an improved version of Huawei’s EMUI user interface with dual SIM support. The icing on the cake is its dual cameras, co-developed with Leica. Also, its huge 4000mAh battery delivers two day’s use.Samsung’s S7 Edge was 2016’s star. Its curved 5.5″ OLED QHD display is both vivid and sharp. It has an Exynos CPU, giving it power to burn and its main camera attracted considerable praise. This is thanks to solid low-light performance and super quick focus times. The S7 Edge has a premium feel thanks to its distinctive metal and glass body. Its battery also delivers a day and a bit with typical use.The HTC 10 sports a curved alloy and glass body. It’s a classic design others have emulated, with good reason as its shape feels great in the hand. The 5.2-inch screen looks great and colours pop. Many phone makers fill their phones with bloatware but HTC ditched it, giving the phone a stock Android look. Another selling point is audio playback which makes 24-bit audio files sound great. Even lowly MP3 audio gets a lift thanks to upscaling technologies. Add a Snapdragon 820 CPU plus a decent camera and there’s a lot to like. The iPhone SE looks like a re-priced iPhone 5. Detractors wasted no time pointing out its screen is several years old and small. But they’re missing out. For one-handed use, it is hard to beat. The other key consideration is what lurks inside its older chassis. It sports the same CPU, camera, and OS as an iPhone 6S. What does differ is its sticker price – the SE is an affordable yet powerful device for Apple fans on a budget.Sometimes a phone comes along delivering great bang-for-buck value. Huawei’s Y3II offers a 4.5-inch screen and 4G but there are compromises. Storage is just 8GB and it only packs 1GB of RAM. While a 32GB microSD card may remedy limited storage, the lack of RAM might not appeal to gamers. It runs Android Lollipop which lacks energy consumption optimisations. This means its 2100mAh battery may not get through a full day. This said, for $69, the Y3II isn’t half bad.The Huawei Y3II isn’t the most affordable smartphone. The Smart Mini 7 is only $49 but there are some gotchas. The Mini 7 is SIM locked so it only works on Vodafone’s network though it is unlockable for $30. Storage and RAM are tight with only packs 4GB and 512MB respectively. It does come with a recent version of Android (Marshmallow) which provides some future proofing and “OK Google” detection. Marshmallow’s Doze feature helps prolong the Smart Mini 7’s battery life. Although it isn’t 4G capable, it supports the latest wi-fi speeds. OS: Android 6 (Marshmallow) Screen: 4-inch LCD RAM: 512MB Storage: 4GB Battery: 1500mAh Camera: 2MB (rear), VGA (front)

Camera quality is decent, but the white balance can veer off a bit and as there’s no optical stabilisation, night photo quality won’t blow you away. Neither will performance, as a quad-core CPU and 1.5GB RAM make app loads that bit slower than the Moto G5.

A much better deal is the BLU Studio 5. This phone has a brilliant 5″ IPS panel at WVGA(800×480) resolution. You also get SD expansion and dual SIMs that make this an incredibly versatile phone. The downside is the cheap 5MP front facing camera. But if you aren’t getting a phone for pictures, this remains an excellent option. Yep – that’s $35/yr – total – for voice and as-needed-data. Probably bit into the $100 initial funds (added in 2006) a little too. The way I see it, even if I put $10/month into data, I’ve come out so far ahead of the monthly plans it would be stupid to use one of those.
Top up your SIM card. When you run out of credit, you can top it up at newsstands, tobacco shops, mobile-phone stores, or many other businesses (look for the SIM card’s logo in the window). Tell the clerk how much credit you want. You’ll either get a voucher with instructions (in most cases, to top up credit, you’ll punch in a long string of numbers on your phone), or the clerk will send the credit directly to your phone. Some providers let you top up online.

*T cs and methodology: Average saving is based on customers that purchased a new contract between 1st Dec 2016 and 31st Dec 2016. For 60% of customers we were able to directly compare the total cost of ownership of the deal purchased from Carphone Warehouse vs. The network’s (Vodafone or O2 or EE) published website price. Total cost of ownership is calculated by: monthly cost x 24 + upfront cost – any cashback. Matched tariffs are where minutes, texts and data are the same. Total matchable transactions in this period were 79,653. The total match rate for December 2016 was 60% (includes iD where there is no match). pack in an impressive amount of features — edge-to-edge screens, a built-in digital assistant for controlling tasks with your voice and an optional dock that converts your phone into a portable PC. If you’re in the market for a premium Android phone, it may be worth waiting another month until the April 21 release of the new Galaxy phones just to see how they measure up to other top Android devices likeWhile the Galaxy S7 Edge remains a good phone, look for it at a discount if you’re looking to save money off the Galaxy S8’s $720 price tag.For those on a tighter budget, there are plenty of good options, including the new $229 Moto G5 Plus. It boats a bright screen, long battery life and a rear camera with dual-pixel autofocus technology.A fan of iOS? Our advice is simple: get the iPhone 7; the iPhone 7 Plus is better if you want a true optical zoom and more battery life. Just be aware that we’re getting ever close to a new iPhone launch in the fall.Check out our top smartphone choices in multiple categories, along with new and notable phones we’re planning on reviewing shortly. We’ve also included rumors about upcoming smartphone updates in case you’re considering whether to put off your phone purchase for the next big thing. We rate smartphones using a combination of subjective criteria (including design and ease of use); our own benchmarks (e.g., our battery, audio and display tests); and synthetic benchmarks (Geekbench 4 for speed, 3DMark for graphics). We also take photos in different lighting conditions and compare the results. After we’ve conducted all of our testing, we rate each device based on its features, performance and overall value. Only the very best devices make our Best list. Before you make the decision to buy a phone, you should make sure that something better isn’t coming around the corner. Here are the major phones due out later this year.HTC has already unveiled one phone this year — the $749 HTC U Ultra, which is now shipping though without its marquee Sense Companion feature. (That digital assistant is expected in an April update to the phone.) But HTC may have something else planned for 2017. The company is reportedly working on a follow-up to the HTC 10, which is expected to have a Snapdragon 835 processor, dual cameras and touch-sensitive edges.Google’s already planning a sequel to the Pixel. “You can count on a successor this year, even if you don’t hear a date from me now,” Rick Osterloh, vice president of hardware at Google, said in February. And if the company follows last year’s release schedule, the new phone should arrive in the fall, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Details are thin right now, other than a rumor that the Pixel 2 will likely feature water resistance.

iOS is superior to Android. I was suckered in buying 2 android devices the samsung galaxy s3 and the nexus 4. I gave it a try because my friends raved about android. They are smart people who generally have great advice and knowledge on technology. So I said I’ll give it a shot because they have good judgement. However I found out that their judgement were out of biased hatred toward apple.

The smartphone market in India is chock full of options at every price point. Manufacturers often release or re-release phones with minor changes and end up confusing the consumer (we’re looking at you, HTC) or simply price phones incorrectly, making people think that they’re paying for better specs. In reality, a lot of phones are quite similar underneath, so you just need to work out whether everything else you’re paying for, such as after sales support, updates, build quality, company reputation and whatnot is actually worth it. In the end, you probably won’t be disappointed with any phone on this list, but if there’s something particular you’re looking for, it’s better to know your options, without having to sift through smartphones that aren’t really worth it. So here’s our picks for the 10 best smartphones you can buy in India, under Rs. 3o,ooo!The Galaxy A series of phones is a departure from Samsung’s usual design language, offering a slim, metallic smartphone with fairly good specs at a decent price. At just 6.3 mm thick and weighing in at 141 gm, the Galaxy A7 is a very good looking device. In comparison, an iPhone 6 Plus is both thicker and heavier, but of course in another league in terms of performance. The Galaxy A7 might not be the best performer on the list, but if you’re looking for a sleek and light smartphone with competitive specs from a well known brand, this should be your choice. Yes, the price is a little bit on the higher side, but it’s a welcome change from the usual Galaxy range.SoC: Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5430
The road to global dominance has occasionally been rocky. Two years ago Huawei made headlines after the U.S. House Intelligence Committee labeled the company a security threat, in part for its ties to China’s military. (Huawei’s founder, Ren Zhengfei, left the People’s Liberation Army in 1983.) Huawei denies the committee’s assertion but remains barred from bidding on large U.S. telecom contracts. But there’s no ban on consumer phone sales. Huawei is carefully managing its exposure as it expands into new markets. It sponsored 30 soccer teams, including top club A.C. Milan. It launched a smartphone line sold online in the U.S. and elsewhere, the Ascend Mate2. And last year it cracked Interbrand’s list of 100 top global brands, sandwiched between Corona and Heineken. Its strategy has begun to pay off. When Huawei launched its Ascend Mate7 “phablet”—a phone approaching the size of a tablet computer—in Berlin this past fall, some bloggers proclaimed it better than Apple’s new iPhone 6. It was exactly the kind of response the company was looking for. “When we launched Mate7, our clear target was the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus,” says Shao Yang, vice president of marketing for Huawei’s consumer group. The buzz was no small triumph for a company that two years ago was recognized by less than 25% of U.S. consumers. The great challenge facing China’s phonemakers is that their global expansion will pit them against the same multinational tech giants they bested in their favorable home market. But they can’t look back. The Chinese market is saturated; at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, some 300 vendors from Shenzhen alone showed up.It’s also slowing down. After several quarters of triple-digit growth in smartphone shipments, China saw it slow to 15% in the third quarter of 2014, estimates IDC—a sign that phone-makers must begin to transition from appealing to first-time buyers to persuading existing owners to upgrade. And then there are the legal hurdles lying ahead. With the exception of Huawei, ZTE, and Lenovo, Chinese phonemakers hold relatively few patents, putting them at risk of lawsuits that could be costly and slow expansion. In December an Indian court ordered Xiaomi to stop selling handsets after Ericsson complained that Xiaomi wasn’t paying royalties on its wireless patents. “The injunction is simply an indicator that we’ve grown up and have quickly reached the stage that took other companies many years to get to,” says Hugo Barra, the executive in charge of Xiaomi’s global division. He added that the suit wouldn’t slow Xiaomi’s expansion in India. At the airport in Shenzhen, I run into Jerry Zhao, a 25-year-old product manager at OnePlus who is working on strategic partnerships. He’s wearing tight jeans and a T-shirt and speaks in the kind of rapid-fire English you hear in New York. When I met with Carl Pei, he told me that OnePlus hired a lot of ABCs—American-born Chinese. Zhao is one of them. Six months earlier he left a Wall Street job to ride the mobile wave in China. As we talk about the industry, he pulls out his phone. “You want to see something?” he asks, grinning. He calls up an internal chart measuring brand popularity. The OnePlus line is a hockey stick, soaring above those for ZTE, Coolpad, Huawei, and others. OnePlus is doing really well, he says, swiping through charts. “We are killing it.”The race is on. In January, Apple posted record earnings, fueled in part by a 70% increase, year-over-year, in sales in greater China. Meanwhile, Samsung has vowed to reinvigorate its mobile efforts after posting lackluster sales of its own—a result of increased pressure from Apple and Xiaomi. All products and services featured are based solely on editorial selection. LeEco is something like China’s Netflix, except it also makes its own hardware, and in the past couple of years it has been making phone. The Le Pro 3 is the first phone that will actually be available in the United States, and that’s a big step for the company. So what makes the Le Pro 3 special? It’s certainly the value: at $400 this is yet another phone offering incredible value for the money. The phone is also thin, stylish and very good looking. It’s in fact one of the first phones to come with the latest and most powerful chip by Qualcomm: the Snapdragon 821, along with 4GB of RAM and a generous 64GB of storage. Unfortunately, the Le Pro 3 has fallen victim to the no-3.5mm headphone jack trend, and you will only be able to use its USB-C port to connect headphones (if you have ones that support USB-C connection).Xiaomi, China’s most talked about tech prodigy, seems to have fallen a bit out of grace in the past year or so. Its phones generally offer great value for the money, but they also have very limited 4G LTE band support and fail to deliver push notification for many messengers, both significant issues that make dealing with them a big hassle. Still, if you’re interested in the Xiaomi ecosystem, its Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus both provide the firepower in terms of adequate specs at a great price.Meizu M3X

My general advice for budget devices is to buy last year’s flagship on the secondhand market. You can pick up something like the DROID Turbo or HTC M8 for ~$200. Much better values, in my opinion.

Freemium games have a golden rule where players who pay get a small advantage but aren’t allowed to flat-out win. Not so in Game Of War. When attacks start, there’s a five-minute window where players are informed, “Your shit’s about to get fucked up, y’all should look into that.” But, if you’ve spent $8,000 to $9,000 over the course of a year, you can shave that time down to under a minute. It’s like being able to throw a sucker punch before the opening bell of a boxing match. To be fair, you could research that technology without spending money … if you wait 58 years.

After being thoroughly redesigned and reengineered for the current model year, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma has reinforced its position as the No. 1 seller in the midsize pickup segment. But now it’s time for new challenges, and they’ll be tackled by the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. This truck takes advantage of Toyota’s long history of success in off-road racing, blends it with the next-gen foundation of the new standard Tacoma, and ends up furnishing owners with perhaps the best of the best off-road pickups from the midsize category. To do so, Toyota Racing Development has deployed a TRD-tuned suspension with Fox racing shocks, 16-inch black alloy wheels with Kevlar-reinforced all-terrain tires, and numerous off-road-ready resources, with LED fog lights from Ridgid Industries and an aluminum front skid plate leading the way. The Tacoma TRD Pro also relies on a recent round of updates for modern-day safety must-haves such as a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.

The addition of 3D touch (a new way of engaging with apps on your phone via a longer press to bring up home screen menus) is unique, but certainly not a standalone reason to purchase this device. The A9 processor puts forth performance that rivals the competition with nary a home screen freeze in sight.
I’m thinking of buying a drone for the first time. Never flown anything like it before and after seeing a presentation on them, I’m itching to learn. I feel like the FPV would be extremely beneficial to have when learning to fly one… is this true? I’m trying to find one under $200 with a reasonable quality camera that’s easy to learn to control and has a flight time of 10-20 mins. I imagine durable would be essential, as well, as it’ll prob take a bit of a beating at first. Maybe something 8-15 inches or so. Any suggestions?

Many parents and students think there is a world of difference between the lifelong outcomes of (a) an A-minus student who gets into, say, Princeton, and (b) an A-minus student who applies to Princeton but “only” gets into some less selective school, like Penn State or the University of Wisconsin. They assume that a decision made by faceless adjudicators in Ivy League cloisters will mark the difference between success and failure in life.

I went with Tracfone and have no regrets. I haven’t had a problem with service, activation, or usage so luckily I can avoid any apparent customer service mishaps there may or may NOT be. I am in no need for a smartphone so the available stock of phones provide me everything I need. I only talk/text and perhaps occasionally browse the web, and rates are really cheap for text/web. Like the article says, my unused minutes just rollover but its the beauty of PRE-paying that really gives me a sense of satisfaction. Good stuff Tracfone.

Buying the right phone for yourself is never easy, that’s why these “bests” lists exist – they’re designed to help you find the perfect phone, tablet or whatever for you. If you’ve already decided you can’t stand the idea of having an iPhone 7, the next logical choice is an Android phone. Here at Alphr, we’re fortunate enough to be sent the latest review samples of all the best Android phones on the market. We’re also lucky enough to have world-class testing facilities and a team of the best smartphone reviewers out there.Combine the two and what you get is the most comprehensive list of 2017’s best Android phones. So, sit back and take a look at our choice of the best Android phones you’re able to buy in 2017.The King is dead! Long live the King. In this case, the OnePlus 3 has been replaced by the OnePlus 3T: an incremental upgrade that adds a faster processor, a bigger battery, a higher-resolution front-facing camera and a £70 price increase to the mix. Despite retailing for £100-£150 cheaper than its rivals, it’s equal to most flagships and better than some.If it were still available, we’d probably put the OnePlus 3 at the top of this list, because the extra £70 doesn’t add too much to what was already a spectacular smartphone. But it’s not and the fact that the OnePlus 3T is still the best-value phone out there despite this is testament to just how much OnePlus is shaking up the world of tech.So why is it in second place and not first? Simple: price. The Galaxy S8 tops the charts in terms of performance and display quality, and isn’t far off in terms of battery life and camera, but it sure is pricey. At £689 SIM-free and with contracts starting at £45 per month, the OnePlus 3T still gets the nod from us.Also dropping a cheaper smartphone in favour of an all-singing, all-dancing flagship is Google. While the Nexus phones were decent specs for lowish prices, the Pixels plough a different furrow, starting at £599 for the regular handset and a whopping £719 for the XL version. The S7 is no longer Samsung’s top dog anymore, but as prices tumble this may be the ideal time to bite. It’s still a great looking phone in 2017, and a top performer. The camera module is the same, too, and although snaps look a little better in the S8, this is still one of the best picks for photographers around. It represents a big upgrade from the S6, too – its camera and performance are both better; in some respects battery life is superior; and the return of storage expansion and disaster-proofing is a huge bonus.Of course, if style is your primary concern, the Samsung Galaxy S7 has a better-looking sibling. For an extra £90, you can get the Galaxy S7 Edge, which is the same phone, but a bit larger and with an additional pair of screens down the edges of the device. Is that worth the extra money? Probably not, but that’s for you to decide. In every other respect, it’s the same brilliant smartphone, with a slightly bigger screen. If it’s a smaller phone you’re craving, the Xperia Z5 Compact may be your dream come true. The 4.6in screen means that it’s far more pocketable than the current generation of 5in-and-larger phones, and the overall quality is unbeatable. The screen has far fewer pixels than some, but it’s bright and crisp nonetheless. The camera is stunning and battery life excellent, too. Factor in hard-knock build and water resistance, and the Z5 Compact has a lot going for it.The original Moto G made us sit up and take notice, redefining what a budget smartphone could do. The G4 continues that fine form, even if the price tag and physical size have swollen since the original. If the 5.5in size doesn’t put you off, there simply isn’t a better smartphone you can get for an RRP of under £200. As Jon wrote in his review, “it’s one hell of a smartphone, and delivers more bang per buck than any smartphone to date”.So why is this here and not the Moto G5? Simply because the Moto G5 performs around the same as the G4 in a slightly prettier case. Save your money and get a G4, which is now available at an even lower price than when it started life as a bargain in 2016.For £225, the Honor 6X barely puts a foot wrong. In fact, it does a passable impression of a flagship twice the price some of the time. In Geekbench, it achieves scores which aren’t a million miles behind the likes of the Google Pixel (3,319 vs 4,101), and while it loses out in terms of graphical grunt, it will be a solid phone for most people – especially at its tempting price point.LG’s latest handset ditches the nod to modular elements seen in the LG G5, and it’s all the better for it. It’s got a great screen, a decent camera, and it’s reasonably speedy. Sadly the removable battery is a casualty, but you can’t win ’em all. That’s the price you pay for water resistance. Why is it relatively far down the list then? That price. £650 makes it just £29 shy of the Samsung Galaxy S8, and it’s weaker in every way. If history has taught us anything about smartphones, it’s that LG units get pricecuts quickly, so it’s a good buy if that happens again. At RRP, though, between this and the S8 it’s just no contest. The HTC 10 doesn’t quite match the best when it come to battery life. It’s merely average when compared with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. It’s also not water- or dust-resistant, and the price is quite high. But if you can’t stand Samsung’s TouchWiz software or simply prefer the look of the HTC 10, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great all-rounder.Proving that modular phones aren’t a dead concept is the Moto Z series. This clever pair of handsets lets you upgrade your phone for the day ahead with special magnetic backs that improve the phone’s core features. There are currently five mods to buy (including a longer battery, a powerful speaker, a Hasselblad camera and a projector) with at least 12 more to follow in 2017. Oh, and the Moto Z Play has the best battery we’ve ever seem in a smartphone, managing almost a day of looped 720p video!Huawei builds the fantastic Nexus 6P, and its own-branded P9 is quite a brilliant handset in its own right, too. A great all-rounder that routinely sells for well under RRP (it’s supposed to retail for £449 SIM-free), it has its niggles, but is a huge leap forward from the Chinese manufacturer. In day-to-day performance, it’s only a little behind the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s. Its graphical performance lets it down a little, but for the price this is still a fine phone, and proves Huawei is one to watch.Another year, another stylish angular smartphone from Sony. Once again, this is very much the jack of all trades and master of none – which makes it a very good smartphone indeed, but not really worth the £549 Sony is asking for it, when you compare it to its rivals. It’s definitely still worth considering if you see a good deal, but at only slightly less than the Samsung Galaxy S7, and a whole lot more than the OnePlus 3T, it’s a bit of a big ask for full RRP – no matter how good it is.

The safest way of paying is with your card, but if you are uneasy about making a payment using this system we recommend you use AliExpress’ system AliPay. This works the same as Escrow and Paypal, you have a virtual card that you can top up with the amount of money you want. If you are interested you can open an AliPay account for free by clicking on the link.AliExpress is a platform used by many stores around the world, it is for this reason that sometimes it is hard to find the store we are looking for. This is especially true because less well known stores try to disguise themselves as high reputation sellers by using well known store names (in AliExpress) in their product descriptions. This is happening a lot with Goldway, and thus it is essential you make sure that when you enter a shop it is truly the one you a looking for. This one is the real Goldaway.

In the first few days of 2007, Steve Jobs introduced the world to the future of mobile: the smartphone. A computer and phone rolled into one, the iPhone came with revolutionary features for the time, including a 3.5-inch screen that reacted to touch, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a 2-megapixel camera. It cost $500 without a contract.Last month, in India, I bought a Forme P9 smartphone. It has a 3.5 inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity, a 3-megapixel camera, and a host of features the original iPhone didn’t offer, including an extra SIM slot, FM radio, an app store, and expandable memory. It costs $32. In the three weeks since I bought it, the price has dropped another dollar. In the next three years, between 500 million and 900 million people will start using the internet, reckons McKinsey. The vast majority of them will do it on cheap mobile phones not unlike the one I bought. This is the story of how we got here, what the internet looks like from a $30 phone, and what lies in the future. In the next three years, between 500 million and 900 million people will start using the internet. The phones are from India, which is the focus of this story simply because it is the single largest offline market in the world—and one that is expected to grow tremendously in the coming years. But the dynamics are similar across the poor world. “All the growth right now and for the mid-term is going to be at the low- and mid-end” says Andrew Dunn, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, an investment bank. “And that’s come about particularly because of the rise of the middle class in China and India.”In exchange for Rs 1,989 ($32) on Flipkart, a big Indian e-commerce site, I received a smartphone that comes with WhatsApp, Facebook, and Google services pre-installed. The box included a USB cable and charger, a handsfree headset, a stick-on scratch-guard for the screen, and a one-year warranty (with a card listing 132 service centers across India). Someone, somewhere, presumably manages to eke out a living from these devices. The question is how. There are three reasons smartphones tend to get cheaper over time, says James Gautrey, technology and telecoms analyst at Schroders, an asset management company. The first is Moore’s Law, a rule of thumb for the technology industry which, in a nutshell, states that computer processors double in power every 18 to 24 months. Looked at the other way, that also means the same processor should halve in price over the same period.“Where Samsung has traditionally taken 50%-60% margins, the new guys like Xiaomi will take 25% gross margin.”The second is general advancement in chip design. Features and functions that would once have required separate chips have over time been integrated into a single chip—a so-called “system on a chip.” This makes it possible to cram ever more technology into a tight space, such as a smartphone.Third, newer handset makers in the developing world are happy to accept much lower margins than incumbents. “Where Samsung has traditionally taken 50%-60% margins, the new guys like Xiaomi will take 25% gross margin,” says Gautrey. All three trends are accentuated when innovation slows. When people can’t think of new things to add to a phone, they don’t need new chips. That means phones as a whole should get cheaper. It also means there is less to differentiate a high-end phone from a low-end one.An additional reason for the sharp decline in prices has to do with efficiencies in the supply chain, which has helped lower the cost of handsets at the low-end and mid-end, says RBC’s Dunn.

TracFone is an American prepaid wireless service provider as mentioned on Wikipedia. It is a subsidiary of América Móvil which is one of the Mexico’s largest telecommunication company. In this article, I am going to rank best TracFone Smartphones of 2017 and highlight their key specifications.Samsung Galaxy J3 is the best TracFone smartphone you can get as of January 2017. The unlocked version of this phone is a bit expensive so you can get it with carrier locked TracFone for cheaper. It is quite a decent smartphone, although it is not comparable with the flagships but can be termed as a budget smartphone with good features. It has a 5inch super AMOLED display with HD resolution, latest Android OS, good and fast camera, expandable memory, WiFi and many more features.5.0″ super AMOLED screen with 720p resolution
Following the Note 7 problems there are a lot of whispers about Samsung at the moment. The failure of the Note 7 has badly bruised its reputation, and it’s hurt its bottom line.
BlackBerry’s operating system, originally released in March 2002. BlackBerry, the company formerly known as Research In Motion Limited (RIM), was the most popular smartphone ecosystem on the planet in 2009 and 2010, when iOS and Android were brand new to the market. The small, durable phones with full keyboards were so addictive for work and personal use that they were given the nickname CrackBerry by their users. Unfortunately for BlackBerry, they didn’t evolve with trends in the market. Consumers wanted touch screen models, and BlackBerry’s first offering, the Storm, was a dud. They’re trying to make a comeback with their new range of models, which includes the touchscreen Z30 and Z10, but face an uphill battle with the entrenched players in the market.

Hi again. I’m going to make a purchase this year so I’ve been looking. Any thoughts about ASUS ZenFone, Xiaomi, other Samsungs ( A9 Pro is looking pretty good, as well as Note5), Huawei. I found something called Yu Yureko, a 6″ phone with specs, for $120 approx., with good reviews. I’m currently using a ZenPad 8 with double sim. It’s actually holdable as a phone, fits in my pocket, albeit a bit heavy and bulky. 8″ is a great all in one travel size. True 10″ better at home, a phone better on street, but hey, $220.
Dual Sim, 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi
I bought a Doogee Voyager phone from China and have been completely happy with it. It is a well ‘specced’ phone, works in my own country, has dual sim cards, 5.5 inch screen, good battery life and all for USD86.50. As someone said of Apple Samsung – they are all made in China anyway, it’s just the name on the front.
FreeAgent offers a free 30-day trial, so get ready to make the most of the new accounting year in April and give it a try!Check how much you’ve already spent on large items of equipment thus far in the tax year, assuming you prepare your accounts to 5th April each year. The annual investment allowance, which lets you claim tax relief of 100% of the cost of qualifying assets is currently £200,000. However, you may have to pro-rata the annual investment allowance depending on what date you use for your accounting year end.The annual investment allowance is not an allowance you can carry forward, so you either use it or lose it! Remember, too, that not all assets qualify for the annual investment allowance. Cars don’t qualify, for example.Conversely though, if you’re planning to sell an asset that would give rise to capital gains tax, you could be advised to wait until after the end of the tax year (i.e. 5th April 2017) or later, if you can. Then you’ll pay the capital gains tax a year later! But it might not be the best idea to wait if you’re planning to sell a lot more assets next year. This is because each year, every individual gets an annual exemption that we can set against capital gains. This was £11,100 for 2016/17. The figure for the tax year to 5th April 2018 hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s likely to be that or higher. So if you’re going to be selling a lot of assets that give rise to capital gains tax in the near future, you may opt to spread the sales between two tax years instead (for example, sell some in March and some in May), to make best use of your annual exemptions. You might also be able to bring forward tax relief if you have genuine business costs coming up soon. Incur them in March rather than in April, and you could get the tax relief on those costs a year earlier. If, for example, you’ve been thinking, “I really must get some new business cards printed”, and your business’s accounting year end coincides with the tax year – then grab your logo file and get down to the printer’s before 5th April!Remember, unless you’re using the cash basis of accounting, expenses go into your business accounts when they’re incurred, not when you pay for them – so even if you don’t pay the printer till 6th April, so long as (s)he did the work before 5th April and you have an invoice, you should be OK to put that expense into your accounts. It’s tempting to wait until 6th April to invoice your customer for some work done, so that this income goes into your next tax year and you pay tax on it a year later. HMRC knows that trick, though! If you’re looking to put some money aside, consider investing what you can of this year’s allowance in an ISA, because this year’s allowance will be lost on 5th April*.
I just got an ipad2 with one of my main functions being able to work on QB online when I travel. I am discouraged to find that it automatically redirects me to the mobile version which doesn’t appear to let me add payments or charges, or create contact lists -all of which I need to do. Is there a way to access the regular website, not the mobile one from my iPad?

Customer Service is very good. You can get someone on the phone quickly. They are knowledgable. The 3 times I wanted to talk to someone the ‘call-me-back’ feature works quickly. It appears as if their call center is in Nevada.

With the pace of smartphone evolution moving so fast, there’s always something waiting in the wings. No sooner have you spied the latest handset, then there’s anticipation of something else, the next big thing. We’ve rounded up the best smartphones for 2017, those we consider to be the best across all platforms, and we’ve regularly updated that list as the smartphone world has evolved. Here we’re looking at those phones that haven’t yet launched, the best upcoming phones for 2017. We’ll be updating this list on a regular basis, with those device rumours we think are credible and exciting, and devices just announced but yet to hit the shelves.Rumours have suggested that Samsung might drop the flat version of the S8, only offering curved devices in two sizes. There’s also talk of increasing the screen resolution, perhaps with a move to 4K, and talk of 5.8 and 6.2-inch sizes, but with those big screens packed into more compact bodies.Samsung is sure to pack the S8 with its latest Exynos 8895 chipset for oodles of power, although we’d expect a Snapdragon 835 version too, and we’d expect to see a move to USB Type-C, following the move of the Note 7. On the software front, we’d expect the S8 to launch on Android Nougat with TouchWiz and we know it will come with the Bixby voice assistant. Given Samsung’s great experience, we’d not expect too many changes to Samsung’s software experience.HTC’s next flagship handset is thought to be going under the name of HTC Ocean. This name came from a video leak which showed off a concept handset, but supported by a leak via Twitter. HTC launched its first handsets for 2017 in the form of the U Play and U Ultra, but at the time said this wasn’t the flagship and there was more to come. It’s early days in the rumour cycle for this handset, but the focus of the video was on new methods of interaction, showing a phone with no buttons and using a mixture of voice, gestures and swipes to control it, so that’s what we’re expecting – as well as a Snapdragon 835 and a launch date at some point later in the year, perhaps April. The iPhone 7, surprisingly, didn’t make a huge change over the iPhone 6S, but the biggest hint at what to expect from the iPhone 8 might have come from Apple Watch. With the release of the Series 2 device, Apple introduced a ceramic version. This, paired with the jet black colouring for the iPhone 7, might point to future changes in materials for the iPhone 8.Some are suggesting that the iPhone 8 will be mostly glass and introduce wireless charging, but there’s expected to be a special edition ceramic version too. Taking it further, it’s suggested that there will be an iPhone 7S and 7S Plus too, alongside this roaring iPhone 8.The OnePlus 5 could land with a glass or ceramic body, moving on from the OnePlus 3T to present something a little different. It wouldn’t be the first time that OnePlus has used something different, as it did in the OnePlus X.Rumours are light on the Google Pixel 2 – we don’t even have confirmation of the name – but it has been confirmed that there will be a new Pixel device in 2017. That was confirmed by Rick Osterloh, SVP of hardware at Google, i.e., the chap who will be responsible for it. Other details are light, but Osterloh also confirmed that the Pixel 2 would retain its premium positioning. That’s about all we know so far, but you can expect Android O, and potentially another phone manufactured by HTC. We’d expect it to launch about October time, about a year after the original.Nokia made it’s play at Mobile World Congress 2017, launching three Android devices. The lead device was the Nokia 6, but notably missing was a true flagship smartphone, colloquially dubbed the Nokia 8.Originally leaking as the P1, and then finding itself levelled with the name Nokia 8, we’re expecting a premium build, with an IP68 rating, a 5.5-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. Most of the hardware rumours have said Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, but with plenty of mixed messaging coming from the flagship rumours and those wrapped up in the Nokia 6/5/3, we’re going to be watching and waiting to see how the story of Nokia’s flagship unfolds. The Surface Phone is something of a Windows phone holy grail. With Nokia then Microsoft Devices producing plenty of Windows Phones, the spectre of the Surface Phone has been hanging around as the idea of the ultimate Windows mobile device. Given the recent sale of virtually all of its phone patents, and announcement that it’s no longer focusing on Windows Phone development, the Surface Phone may never see the light of day. It’s rumoured that the new premium device will be Surface branded and Intel powered, possibly coming in three different variants. Given the same team behind the Surface Tablets are said to be behind the Surface Phone, you can expect a solid build if it ever does appear. There’s also the suggestion that Surface Phone will run a brand new update of Windows 10, aiming to capitalise on the branding and offer the ultimate experience. Launch originally wasn’t expected until the latter half of 2016, but this has since shifted to 2017. That’s if it appears at all.LG announced the LG G6 at MWC 2017, launching a phone with a 18:9 display. It’s taller, narrower and designed to make it easier to use the 5.7-inch phone. It’s a premium build, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset and packing a pair of cameras on the rear, giving you regular and wide angle shots.Huawei announced the P10 and P10 Plus at MWC 2017, delivering an update to the popular P9 handset. One of the visual changes is a range of interesting colours – it’s not just black or grey, it’s blue and green. There’s a 5.1-inch display on the P10, a 5.5-inch display on the P10 Plus, packed into a metal body. The P10 offers Full HD, the P10 Plus makes a jump to Quad HD, with both being powered by the Kirin 960 chipset. There’s a pair of Leica cameras on the rear, offering monochrome and colour capture separately, with optical image stabilisation. The Huawei P10 will be available from March 2017, costing around £550 for the smaller model, the larger is expected to be only £50 more. Read our reviews for what we thought. The Nokia 6 is now a global device, offering a lovely build on mid-range specs. It has an aluminium body, fronted by a lovely 5.5-inch Full HD display. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset and offers a 16-megapixel camera on the rear, 8-megapixel on the front. Most attractive, however, is that it’s pure Android, with no bloat at all – the only thing Nokia changes is the camera app.The Arte Black special edition (pictured) is only €299, the normal version is €229, meaning this is a serious bargain for Nokia’s return to smartphones. There are also Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 handsets, which drop the specs down – the Nokia 6 is our star pick, however. The Moto G5 now offers a metal body on both these devices, with a front fingerprint scanner. The G5 is a 5-inch device, the G5 Plus expands to 5.2-inches; the G5 Plus offers a more advanced camera and is the more powerful handset, with more storage too. That difference is also reflected in the price. The Moto G5 is £169, the Moto G5 Plus is £269.BlackBerry is now produced by TCL and the latest device is the BlackBerry KeyOne, formerly known as Mercury. This is a touch and type handset, offering the full glory of Android, with a BlackBerry keyboard on the bottom. This is a solidly-built handset with a premium finish, with a 3:2 display and powered by a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. There’s plenty of innovation here, like the fingerprint scanner in the space bar.

I lost my BlackBerry phones when my boat went down (along with everything else) and needed to get two usable phones fast (one in America, an LG flip from K-Mart, another as soon as back in the UK) and ALMOST in your price range, I managed to get a SIM free Moto E 2nd gen from Tesco on offer. It was £79.99 if I had it with a Tesco sim (and locked to Tesco), and £57 SIM free (grins). This has turned out to be a cracking phone, well built, great battery life if you turn off unnecessary power hogs, and I easily get 2 days with wifi constantly on. It’s also small enough to be good in the pocket, and has an excellent screen with gorilla glass. It auto updated to Android 6.0.1 as soon as I got it, and runs it smoothly. Batteries are removable (I later bought a spare, but have never run out of power and needed to use it), and it has a microSD card slot.Good cheap phones ARE out there, around the £50 mark, and it would be really nice to not have to stumble over them by accident. I think at the time, the Moto E 2nd gen list price was £109 though, so having guide prices may be a really tough challenge on being able to find what we need. Audio with it is very good too (I am almost completely deaf, so this is important), and, it has REAL GPS (also very important to me for Sailsafe anchor watch software and backup Navigation software). My only actual real dislike with the Moto E 2nd gen, applies to all Android and Apple phones though – their touchscreen keyboards really suck big time, especially if you have finger joint problems. So when I am back in a position to get a much better spec phone again, I’ll be getting a BlackBerry DTEK 60, to get that fantastic touchscreen keyboard again. With luck, it’ll perhaps be a Christmas present.Good luck finding a good phone.

Big-name phone carriers such as Verizon and AT T will sell customers a phone and let them pay for it over a few years, usually without any interest or markup over the retail price. Such deals, though, are available only to customers with decent credit who sign up for a standard monthly service plan. But these new payment plans, aimed at customers with bad credit or no credit, come at a cost. Spreading out payments can mean paying more than $1,500 over the course of a year for an iPhone 6 Plus that retails for $750.Though the plans technically aren’t loans, payments at leasing companies with pricier terms can be the equivalent of borrowing at interest rates topping 200%.“Some customers come back and say they did the math and realized this was kind of expensive. They realize they could have bought two phones for that,” Fuentes said.Since the plans are structured as leases, customers can return the phones, typically after a minimum rental period of a few months, and be off the hook for the remaining payments. Still, consumer advocates warn that these plans, similar to rent-to-own arrangements used to buy furniture and appliances, encourage customers to get items they really can’t afford.“Is it a good idea for consumers to get a phone when they end up paying 100% interest for it? I wouldn’t do it,” said Ed Mierzwinski, consumer program director at U.S. Public Interest Research Group. “Rent-to-own companies make the promise of the American dream — that you can own anything — but the price is high.”Most prepaid customers — about 86% — now have smartphones, according to research firm NPD Group. But the vast majority of those phones are cheap models, ones that cost $150 or less, according to consulting firm IDC Research. That includes lower-priced phones from LG and Samsung, as well as phones from brands such as ZTE, Huawei and Kyocera. But leasing firms Payjoy and SmartPay Leasing, both based in the Bay Area, say the majority of their customers are using payment plans to buy high-end phones, including the latest iPhones and Samsungs.Ken Pedotto, executive vice president of San Francisco’s SmartPay, which has been leasing phones since 2012 and was acquired last year by New Hampshire firm Tempoe, said the company leases more than 100,000 phones a year, and about two thirds of those are phones that cost $450 or more.SmartPay, Payjoy and other leasing firms, including market leader Progressive Leasing, which is owned by rent-to-own Atlanta furniture giant Aaron’s, work directly with prepaid phone carriers and with bricks-and-mortar prepaid phone shops.Customers pick the phone they want, go through a brief online credit check, make a down payment of about 20% and walk out, phone in hand. Then the monthly payments start.SmartPay gives a snapshot of a typical deal on its website. For a phone that retails for $199, a customer can pay $29.85 upfront, and will then pay $37 each month for the next 11 months. That’s a total cost of about $437 — more than twice the phone’s retail price.Customers can pay less, depending on their credit and the terms of their lease, and they have the option to buy it outright before the end of the lease, which can also cut the total cost.Pedotto acknowledged that these rent-to-own plans are pricey, but said that’s because they are geared toward risky consumers — ones who have little credit history, and many of whom will at some point simply stop paying.“Our goal is to offer the lowest price possible that we can stay in business with,” he said. “But if you have a high-risk customer and you’re giving them a (low) lease multiple, you’re going to be out of business. Some will pay us for a while, then we’ll lose touch and we’ll never be able to contact them.”He said SmartPay is trying to offer lower rates by working with prepaid carriers to bundle lease and service payments together. If customers pay for their phone and service separately, they can simply stop paying for the phone while continuing with their service plan. By connecting the two, SmartPay hopes more customers will keep paying, leading to lower rates.Payjoy, a Saratoga, Calif., start-up that started leasing phones in May of last year, is doing something similar, but with a technological solution: Software installed on phones leased from Payjoy allows the company to shut down a customer’s phone remotely if they don’t pay. That allows the company to charge lower lease rates — ones that raise a phone’s total price by as much as 50% rather than 100% or more. For now, Payjoy’s system works only with Android phones, though Chief Executive Doug Ricket said he hopes to add iPhones eventually.Shutting off service if customers don’t pay isn’t a new tactic, having been used over the years by utilities, phone companies and, more recently, auto lenders. The threat of shutting down phones, Ricket said, means not only that more customers continue to pay, but also that Payjoy can offer financing to customers with almost no underwriting. For now, Payjoy works with a few hundred phone retailers in California, Florida and Texas, making it much smaller than SmartPay and Progressive, which each work with more than 10,000 retail stores. But Ricket said before the end of the year, Payjoy should be operating a pilot program in either Africa, Southeast Asia or Latin America.

It all depends on what you need I guess. I rarely use my phone as a phone, so 100 minutes talk, 5GB of 4G data, and unlimited text for $12 less a month is a better value. If you use more phone minutes though, I would pick straight talk for $12 more a month.

This immersion circulator is accurate, incredibly easy to use, and compatible with more vessels than other sous vide cookers. The addition of Wi-Fi makes it possible to set the unit remotely. For four years now we’ve been testing sous vide cooking tools, and the Anova Precision Cooker Wi-Fi makes the most sense for a home chef because it comes with a low price, is easy to use, and can adjust to pots and containers of almost any size. While the heating element is underpowered compared with some of the competition, its flexibility makes it more useful for most people. And, like just about every sous vide circulator we’ve tested, it’s stable and accurate enough to use for even the most exacting of cooking techniques. The addition of Wi-Fi provides a stable wireless connection and the ability to set and control the cooker remotely, whereas the Bluetooth version connects to an app only within limited Bluetooth range. This new version has 900 watts of power and circulates water more quickly. In many ways, the ChefSteps Joule is equal or superior to the Anova Precision Cooker. It’s physically smaller, it’s just as accurate, it heats up water faster, and it can cook with less water in a pot thanks to a magnetic base and its unique pump system. We love the app, which works over either a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. What the Joule lacks is on-board controls. There’s no screen, no buttons, nothing. It’s entirely controlled from a smartphone or tablet, meaning you can’t adjust the temperature or start a cook from the unit itself. For some people this won’t be a problem at all, but having to rely on a secondary device as the only form of control is a big enough demerit to keep the Joule from becoming our top pick.Sous vide cooking is only the first step when it comes to meat. After the protein is cooked through, searing provides a delicious, crispy brown exterior. While you can finish your food in a pan, we found Bernzomatic’s TS8000 to be the fastest tool for searing. It attaches to a standard camping propane tank and is easy to use.Nick Guy has been interested in the intersection of food and tech since middle school when Emeril Live was appointment viewing for him. He’s been cooking sous vide since November 2014, when he first got his hands on the Anova Precision Cooker (if you don’t count his pretty successful attempts with hot water and a cooler!).Tim Barribeau has written for The Sweethome and The Wirecutter since 2012, covering both gadgetry and cooking tools. In that time he’s interviewed James Beard Award–winning authors and chefs, performed blind taste tests with Japanese chefs, and persuaded ice cream parlors to spend hours slinging ice cream with different sizes and shapes of scoops. He also makes a mean sous vide salmon.A home sous vide cooker is mostly for food lovers and experimental cookers. It’s for people who love cooking and playing around with new recipes and techniques, those who are willing to wait for hours for food to finish cooking. Over the past few years, sous vide cooking has blossomed into the public consciousness. Thanks to the technique’s prevalence in the kitchens of high-end restaurants as well as a glut of demystifying literature, demand for home-use sous vide circulators soared, and many inventors have been using Kickstarter to fund the creation of affordable machines. Now a mainstay of cooking shows and Internet discussions, sous vide involves sealing your food—ideally within a vacuum—and then immersing it in warm water for hours at a time until the entire thing reaches a uniform temperature. The result? Steak that’s a perfect medium rare throughout (no cold, raw centers or overcooked outsides), chicken so tender that you don’t even need a knife, and eggs the consistency of custard. That’s what sous vide can do. And for the most part, making that happen is quite easy. The best of these devices are very simple to use and allow you to expand the margin of error in creating the perfect piece of food. They’re like a more controllable version of slow cookers, and they can give you some pretty interesting food outcomes thanks to their accuracy.Over the past few years, sous vide technology has really come into its own, filtering down from labware that cost thousands to devices that you can reliably get for less than $200. If you’ve been curious about the technology, now is the perfect time to give it a try. Recent interest and competition now means that sous vide devices are affordable and easy to use.Plus, since sous vide cooking in the home has been so heavily driven by innovative people putting things together piecemeal and experimenting in their kitchens, there are a lot of fantastic recipes available online. But if you want the best technical breakdown of sous vide cooking that’s available at no cost online, Douglas Baldwin’s excellent site A Practical Guide to Sous Vide Cooking is your best bet. It’s a fantastic look at the science of sous vide, offering details about proper handling, cooking times, and various other techniques. If you’re interested further in the science of cooking and other advanced techniques, Modernist Cuisine and Modernist Cuisine at Home are both bibles for more information. They’re expensive but immaculately researched (and gorgeously photographed). There are primarily three types of sous vide cooker: the immersion circulator that can simultaneously heat and circulate water; the all-in-one but less precise water bath; and the bring-your-own-heat controller. For most people in most situations, the immersion circulator is the perfect sous vide cooker. These are gadgets that latch onto the side of a vessel—be it a pot, a plastic tub, or even a cooler—and not only heat the water but also use an impeller to circulate it around the container. Since they actively push the water around, the temperature is more even throughout the entire vessel. Immersion circulators also tend to be smaller than some of the alternatives, priced generally decently and easy to use.Accuracy – With some food, eggs in particular, a temperature variance of just 1 degree Fahrenheit can mean a radically different final product. So you need a sous vide cooker that is accurate enough to do what you want—and all of the water has to be at that same temperature. No hot or cold spots.

The Mi Mix is a Phablet featuring an OLED display of 6.4-inches but the good thing is thanks to its bezel-less design overall device is not bigger than Samsung’s Galaxy S7 in terms of looks. As per company’s claim the Mi Mix screen-to-body ratio is 90%, we haven’t heard such kind of claim before. The large body also increases the device weight that’s why Mi Mix weighs 208 grams. The device standard and pro variants are packed with rounded OLED display with a full HD screen resolution of 1080 x 2040 pixels. The display pixel per inch is 361, however, Xiaomi could include a quad HD display for the Pro variant which for sure increases the VR capabilities of the handset. The rear mounted camera snapper is of 16MP while the front-facing module is 5MP.
