Navigation is extremely nippy with no lag visible when swiping across the homescreens or pulling down the notification bar and the camera app opens with minimal delay. One port that doesn’t need to be covered to be waterproof is the headphone jack, which is convenient while not compromising the waterproof nature of the Xperia Z3 Compact. The Pixel 2’s superb camera makes it worth a look. Humans responsible for heating the Earth, US report says. With this in mind, we decided to put together some answers, so we’re pitting both phones against each other and are comparing them spec-for-spec. They can even both shoot 4K video and have 2. The phone has a similar aesthetic to its predecessor, with the same glass front and back and minimalist Sony Xperia branding.

This means the Z3’s screen will look much sharper than the Z3 Compact, and it will also be able to Full HD video at its native resolution. Luckily, both screens are very similar in terms of image quality, so all your photos and videos will look equally spectacular on either handset.

It’s not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, though. This meant each phone showed plenty of detail onscreen in our high contrast test images and we were able to see the phone clearly from even the most acute viewing angles.

For instance, Android 4. Of course, this makes the Z3 Compact much better value than the Z3, as its lower price makes it one of the fastest mid-range phones that’s currently available.

The Z3, on the other hand, is just as fast as any other flagship handset, leaving it feeling less special by comparison. This is still outstanding for either phone – the Galaxy S5 had been our previous battery life champion with its running time of 17 hours and 30 minutes – and lighter users should definitely be able to stretch to Sony’s claim of two-day battery life.

However, while both phones have superb battery lives, the Z3 Compact is the clear winner here, as it sets a new standard for both mid-range handsets and its flagship competitors. This has an 8x digital zoom and can record video in 4K.

It also has an ISO sensitivity of 12, a world first for a smartphone, which means it should be able to perform well in very low lighting conditions. Again, as with the phone’s processor, this makes the Z3 Compact better value than its larger counterpart.

In our outdoor image tests, there was very little separating each camera. As with previous Xperia phones, the camera’s Superior Auto mode locks photos to 8-megapixels, so we’ve included both 8-megapixel test shots as well as full One of the defining features of Sony’s Xperia Z range is its waterproof chassis and the Z3 and Z3 Compact are no different.

This lets anyone with a PS4 use their phone as a remote screen to connect and control their games. This means you can still play games if other members of your family want to watch something on TV a similar idea to the Nintendo Wii U’s Off-TV Play feature, and it also means you can effectively turn your PS4 into a handheld games console.

You’ll need to connect the phone to your console via Wi-Fi and use the GCM10 Game Control Mount to connect it to the Dualshock 4 controller to take advantage of this feature, but this is something that will surely appeal to gamers who want to be able to play their games anywhere in the house.

They’re both made of very similar materials and they have practically the same hardware and software services – the only real difference is screen size, screen resolution and battery life.

The display has a p resolution, which is the same resolution you’ll find on the previous Z1 Compact. While the display was perfectly crisp on the Z1 Compact, the larger screen of the new model means that the same number of pixels have had to be spread further, resulting in a slightly lower pixel density overall.

It now has a pixel density of pixels per inch ppi, which is less than the ppi of its predecessor and substantially less than the ppi of the full HD Z3. Its mediocre resolution means the Z3 Compact’s display doesn’t have quite the same clarity I’d hope to see, particularly around icon edges and on text.

High resolution images look good, but an extra injection of pixels would really make them pop. Sure, the majority of apps and games you’re likely to use look perfectly fine on the screen, but as Sony is still pitching the phone as simply a smaller flagship, it’s a shame it hasn’t made any effort to improve or even maintain the resolution.

On the plus side, it’s a very bright screen, making it easy to read in sunlight and under the harsh overhead lights of the CNET office. Sony boasts that it uses the same Triluminous technology from its Bravia range of TVs — while that’s marketing nonsense, it is the case that the display has vibrant, punchy colours that are easily capable of doing justice to colourful Netflix films like Disney’s “Tangled”.

The phone comes with the latest Android 4. The main Android structure is the same — multiple homescreens, an app tray, pull-down notifications and settings bar — but there are various aesthetic tweaks as well as a helpful menu to the left of the app tray that lets you easily reorganise your apps.

It’s running on a 2. Navigation is extremely nippy with no lag visible when swiping across the homescreens or pulling down the notification bar and the camera app opens with minimal delay.

It’s generally a breeze to use and it happily turns its hand to more demanding tasks too. Glossy racer Asphalt 8 played perfectly well, as did Riptide GP 2. It’s certainly capable of keeping gamers happy.

Image editing and video streaming were also tackled without a hitch — in short, this phone is capable of handling anything you’ll want to throw at it. An interesting addition to the Z3 Compact — and the rest of the Z3 series — is the ability to use the phone as a display for your PS4.

Your console will still do all the processing, but it will let you stream the game to your phone, so you can hook up a PS4 controller over Bluetooth and play actual PS4 games on your phone.

Sony reckons it’s great if your partner wants to watch something on TV when you want to play games. Let’s be honest though, its real value is the fact that we can now play glossy PS4 titles on the toilet.

This feature isn’t available yet, however, so I’ll reserve my judgement on how well this feature works. I’ll be putting it to the test on the Z3 Compact and Z3 when it launches and will update this article — and, potentially, the score — with my findings.

It could be a wonderful bonus, but it’s a complex feature and I wouldn’t buy this phone right now expecting it to work flawlessly in the future. If this is why you’re interested in this phone, hold tight.

This feature has just been rolled out, so our testing is currently ongoing. However, the video below should give you some idea of how it performs on the Z3v, and one hopes, on the Z3 Compact.

Check back soon and we’ll update this section with our impressions on how it all works. It’s waterproof fro up to 30 minutes, has a Hands-on with this not-quite-Z3 smartphone, coming soon.

I was mostly pleased with the Z1 Compact’s camera results, although its fully automatic mode didn’t always deliver the best white balance so I was keen to see how the new model compares.

For the most part, I found the Z3 Compact to perform similarly. On my first test, looking out to London’s St Paul’s Cathedral and shooting in Sony’s intelligent auto mode, it achieved a very even exposure, with plenty of details in the shadows beneath the bridge, while keeping highlights in the clouds under control.

As with the predecessor, its automatic white balance isn’t fantastic and has resulted in the image having quite a cold colour cast. Things get a little warmer as I move closer to the building, and again I was pleased with the phone’s admirable exposure in this challenging, high contrast scene.

A radical redesign that’s nearly all screen includes a new cutting-edge facial recognition Better cameras, faster performance and new AR apps. And this one still has the home button.

The Xperia Z3 Compact feels comfortable, no matter what the task. Though it has a rather stark look to it, the rounded corners certainly help make it feel nice to hold. This is helped by the dimensions of the Xperia Z3 Compact.

Though there’s nothing particularly compact about its 4. The smaller size of the screen and body of the Xperia Z3 Compact is one of the areas in which the Compact may have an advantage over its bigger sibling, depending on your preferences for the size of your smartphone.

While 5-inch and above smartphones are certainly growing in popularity, with Apple being particularly pleased with the reception its 5. By offering a very similar experience but with a smaller form factor, the Xperia Z3 Compact could find a receptive audience with those who haven’t been swayed with the phablet craze.

I certainly didn’t have any trouble reaching each corner of the screen with the thumb of the hand I was holding the Xperia Z3 Compact in. Helping with the comfort, the Xperia Z3 compact weighs just g with a thickness of 8.

While the comfort of the Xperia Z3 Compact is pretty evident, aesthetics are far more subjective. To my eye, however, the Xperia Z3 Compact again impresses.

It manages to be minimal without looking plain, with Gorilla Glass covering the front and back, giving it an attractive look. Around the edge of the Xperia Z3 Compact is a translucent plastic surround.

While it helps cushion impacts if you drop the Z3 Compact, it also gives the phone a frosted look that works very well. As with previous entrants in the Xperia Z line, the Z3 Compact is dust and waterproof, with IP65 and IP68 ratings, which among other things means it can be submerged in up to 1.

This means that most ports are hidden under plastic covers. While it might prove to be a mild annoyance to have to remove the plastic cover every time you want to charge the Xperia Z3 compact, you’ll probably be glad of it if you ever drop the phone in the bath or the loo.

The covers also help give the body a much tidier look. One port that doesn’t need to be covered to be waterproof is the headphone jack, which is convenient while not compromising the waterproof nature of the Xperia Z3 Compact.

However, we’re starting to see opened charging ports for water resistant phones, which would have been great here. While the power button’s location in the middle of the right-hand side is a welcome relief for users of the larger Xperia Z3 who don’t have to stretch to the top side of the phone’s body, with the smaller Z3 Compact the placement doesn’t feel quite so essential.

However, the power button, along with the volume controls and the camera button below it, are all comfortable to reach. Though they don’t protrude much from the phone’s body, they still feel responsive with a satisfying click when pressed.

Another big difference between the two phones is screen size and screen resolution.
