This is both possible and very common with a jail broken iPad. Rechargeable battery with cradle. Included high-performance laser mouse features contoured sides and But the ergonomic design does not stop there – adjustable tilt legs offer an extra 8 degrees of comfort customization. Believe it or not, hitting even those basic requirements turns out to be too much for the vast majority of keyboard cases we tested for the iPad Air 2. It’s like asking why your refrigerator can’t heat things up. As far as I know, iOS does not have cursor capability built in, so a mouse wouldn’t be of any use.

They all use Bluetooth to connect to the iPad and most of them have battery life that’s rated in terms of weeks, not hours. They all mostly offer a near-full-sized deck of keys about the same width as the iPad itself, and you should never have to hassle with custom software on the iPad to use them.

But then you get to the differences: Those differences may not seem like a big deal when you’re looking at photos on Amazon or checking them out at Best Buy, but they add up.

Problems like an awkward case, mushy keyboard, or iffy wireless connection won’t take long to frustrate you enough to just put the damn thing in a drawer. So what should you expect in a keyboard for your iPad Air 2?

You’ll also want it to hold your iPad up at the right angle or angles. You really want something that will work on your lap. Believe it or not, hitting even those basic requirements turns out to be too much for the vast majority of keyboard cases we tested for the iPad Air 2.

But there’s one keyboard that managed to do it all. It might surprise you who makes it; it surprised me. Shot on location at WeWork. Also available on YouTube.

Microsoft, yes Microsoft, makes the best Bluetooth keyboard for the iPad Air 2. Unlike most of the other keyboards we tested, this isn’t a case. Instead, it’s a slim, well-built keyboard that sits underneath a hinged plastic cover.

It works well on your lap or on a table, and you can even remove the cover and set it back a distance from the keyboard. Obviously, the most important thing is that it’s a good keyboard to type on — and it is.

The keys have enough travel to feel satisfying when you hit them and are spaced widely enough to be comfortable. None of the keyboards we tested were full-sized, but it was pretty easy to get comfortable with this one.

I also liked the layout of the special keys for controlling music because they are separated out and didn’t make you learn to use some Fn-based key combo. Going with a separate keyboard does have one disadvantage: But that’s about the only downside.

One of the main reasons I like this keyboard is that it will work with any iPad case so long as it’s not too thick — 10mm is the max, 4mm thicker than the iPad Air 2. So if you already have a case, you can keep using it.

Other keyboards we tested were great to type on, but weren’t compatible with iPad cases at all. One other reason to like this keyboard: It really offers everything.

It starts with a really nice, backlit keyboard that you can detach and is great to type on. It attaches to the keyboard with magnets and uses the magnets to turn the keyboard on. You can position the iPad at two different angles in both portrait and landscape, too.

That’s a pretty big investment — especially since it won’t really work with any other device. Affiliate links are automatically generated by our partner, Skimlinks. For more information, see our ethics policy.

This means that you can connect up to 7 bluetooth devices to your iPad. I’ve seen Bluetooth keyboards used but never a mouse. Maybe to just scroll pages I suppose?

You can’t exactly point and click. That’s why my reason for posting is to ask if it was possible to connect a Bluetooth mouse if it exist. I am here for people’s input and if people have alternatives.

Buying a laptop right now is out if my budget currently. I wanted a mouse for convenience. Imagine using a desktop computer without a mouse and only a keyboard. I will have to tap to position the cursor.

I do not want to move my hands away from the keyboard to tap the screen and then returning my hand back to the keyboard. Doing this often will slow me down. I am all about hotkeys and I type maybe about WPM words per minute.

OK, then it makes no sense that you even considered a tablet in the first place. The entire point of a tablet is that it is operated by touching the screen and does not use a mouse.

Care to explain literally any Android or Surface tablet then? The iPad is the only tablet lacking mouse support, which if you google, has been well documented that Apple needs to address this issue for the iPad Pro to become any form of success.

There’s nothing to explain. Surface supports mouse because it has a desktop mode, mouse support on an Android tablet is a hack. It is not designed to be used with a mouse.

If you want something that requires a mouse, don’t use a tablet. It’s like asking why your refrigerator can’t heat things up. That is not their purpose.

It is not a tablet’s purpose to be controlled with a mouse. It is a category of computer that was specifically designed to be operated with your finger s. But the best part is the price: This is a very popular, stand-alone keyboard case, and it’s received numerous rave reviews.

It acts as a cover and lets you slot in the iPad and then adjust it to multiple angles. The iPad Air 2 model has replaceable, rechargeable batteries, and typing on it is pretty good, too.

But you can’t use it with any case except Apple’s smart cover. Kensington makes a bunch of vaguely differentiated keyboard cases for the iPad Air 2. The Folio Thin X3’s gimmick is that it can serve as a backup battery for an iPhone in a pinch.

That’s neat, and the whole package feels well made, tight, and compact. Like most folio cases, it only lets you type at one at one angle. You can attach it via magnets to use it as a cover, and when you slot in the iPad, a clever little stand pops up to prop up your tablet.

That’s all nice, but it won’t work with a case. This is a really handsome, folio-style keyboard case for the iPad Air 2. It has an almost canvas-like finish that’s really easy to grip and protects against the usual wear and tear.

Unfortunately, it can only work at one typing angle. This keyboard case has felt on the inside to protect the iPad and a leather-like finish on the outside for added grip. Like other folio keyboards, though, you can only use it at one angle in landscape mode.

Anker makes great batteries and chargers, but this keyboard case doesn’t really stand out. This folio-style case does the job, but it can leave you fumbling a bit when you just want to use the tablet without the keyboard.

We found that it’s actually really hard to get the iPad in and out of the plastic corners that hold it in place. On top of that, the build quality really felt sub-par.

Moshi VersaKeyboard for iPad Air 2. The Moshi VersaKeyboard has bad ideas of what you want in a keyboard for your iPad. The keyboard sits in a slot on the back of the case, and you have to remove it and use it separately, using the case to prop up the iPad.

That makes it pretty much impossible to use on your lap unless you really enjoy balancing two things there. Jan 8, Messages: Hm, If you’re doing the payroll thing via Safari on the iPad, you might try the Puffin browser.

It’s mostly a Flash enabled browser, but because so many Flash sites need cursor control Puffin had virtual trackpad and gamepad inputs. There is a free trial version 14 days I believe, so you can test it out.

Apr 21, Messages: As far as I know, iOS does not have cursor capability built in, so a mouse wouldn’t be of any use. I was under the impression that you could use a mouse by jailbreaking but if it’s not possible then I’ll scrap that notion.

On my jobs payroll website it gives two options. One is an html site that you need a mouse for. The other is a Java site that works a lot betterand doesn’t need a mouse.

I’ve heard about some Java enabled browsers but haven’t really tried them. Are their any that are worth trying? If I can get this working then I can eliminate needing my laptop anymore. I use my iPad for everything except payroll anymore.

Dec 3, Messages: You can use a mouse on a jailbroken iPad. Which iOS version is your iPad Air 2 on? There’s currently no available jailbreak for iOS 8. I believe Puffin will work with most Java sites as well.

Give the free version a try and see. As for the jailbreak method, even it you could install it there is no guarantee that it will work properly with a website. In a native app like Safari a jailbreak mouse would probably simulate the same actions that you use touch for.

Actions that can not be done by touch would require the jailbreak to modify Safari’s features, not just add a mouse pointer.

It was a Linx 10″ Runs full Windows 8.

Works perfectly with mouse and keyboard. Obviously it depends on what you want to use the device for I was playing Rocksmith on it and a couple of hours of Planetside 1. I handed it back to my friend and was a little sad to see it go.

It was very good – especially for the price, but the ipad is a class above it for build quality and screen. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy. Upvoting posts that you like helps more people in the community see them.

I just need basic point and click with a mouse to get the cursor where I need it. The payroll program is older than the hills and resembles dos. To move from one field to another you either use tab or the arrow key.

The problem is that the back arrow key moves you forward as well so to get to the field you need is a real pain and time consuming. I tried using puffin browser and no luck with it running the Java version of our payroll site.

I’ll try other browsers if I find them. I believe iOS 8. Check out the Hacking section of this forum for information and instructions on jailbreaking. Start with the sticky posts at the beginning of the section.
