What could be a problem though, is that the gateway offers more than one set of Bulk Endpoints. PID what the endpoint numbers exactly are and then try to address them in the code directly.

In the code of the example we just take the first set of bulk endpoints, which might work for the IN endpoint, but probably the OUT ep is the wrong one. Also for easier debugging I recommend using a PC and to run some pyusb script.

I am sorry that it seems not to work with the Beagleboard XM. Does the board get powered when you connect it? If you get an empty list of devices back then usually it means either the board is not enumerated, or the framework part of the UsbManager has not been implemented correctly.

However, we have devices with the ACM driver here as well and they seem to work. Please keep me posted on your development, since we always get requests in the comments about devices not enumerating empty list issue.

Think of this as the Samsung version of the Genius Bar. Customers can bring in their Samsung phones or tablets to the Smart Service desk to get help with their phones, including getting problems diagnosed and contacts transferred.

While the Smart Service desk can’t handle direct repairs for broken screens, the Samsung employees can help direct customers to where they can get a screen replaced, receive help with warranty issues or process swap-outs for those with Best Buy’s Geek Squad protection.

They’ll also help customers install software updates on their phone, do backups or reinstall their phone OS. I asked a Samsung Experience Consultant what he would do if a customer came with a rooted phone that had a different ROM installed.

He said that while the ROM technically voids the warranty, he would be able to help the customer with the phone and restore the firmware to Samsung stock. If the phone was unable to boot or restore, he would have to send it to Samsung, which may decline to service the item at their discretion.

Still, it’s nice for Galaxy S owners to know that they have a place to go if their phone isn’t working properly. The real benefit — for Best Buy and Samsung — is that these Samsung employees will be able to help set up products, and show how to use different features at point of purchase.

Right now, this is the biggest pain point in the sales process and so Samsung is doing what it can so that customer’s leave the store “feeling empowered about their device.

While the Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets — including the upcoming Galaxy S4 — are on full display, Samsung is also using the Samsung Experience Shop to show off its other connected products and devices.

The company’s line of Ultrabooks and Windows 8 tablets are on display and configured to work with other Samsung devices. There is also an area dedicated for digital imaging — including the Samsung Galaxy Camera — along with a laptop that shows how the camera can interface wirelessly with a computer and cloud services.

When the Galaxy S4 launches, this section will also include a DirecTV set-top box that can be controlled with its new WatchOn remote control feature. In the future, this is an area Samsung hopes to focus on even more — especially as the living room and mobile and tablets continue to converge.

The Samsung Experience Shop is the company’s latest effort to work with retailers and point-of-sale locations to make its products — particularly the Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets — more accessible.

Samsung tells us that it went from having virtually no branded point-of-sale presence in to more than 10, permanent points-of-distribution and branded point-of-sale areas by the end of It’s that kind of growth that has helped Samsung ramp up its product line, and distribute its products to so many markets at the same time.

While the Samsung Experience Shops are the biggest new retail initiative, it’s not the only strategy Samsung has up its sleeve. The company is also working on rolling out a number of virtual sales assistants that accompany devices at chains such as Fry’s.

These assistants work alongside the phone, teaching users how to activate certain features. The demos work in both English and Spanish, and are compatible with the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2, as well as the Galaxy S4 upon its launch.

For Samsung, a branded, controlled retail experience represents the last piece of establishing a degree experience for customers. The goal is to offer consumers a way to feel comfortable before, during and after purchase.

It’s a strategy that makes sense too. As we’ve noted in the past, the strength of the Galaxy brand is probably second only to Apple in the smartphone market. More people associate Android with Samsung and Galaxy these days, than Google.

For that reason, it’s essential for Samsung to better control its experience going forward. It’s also good for retailers such as Best Buy. The company is trying to differentiate itself from competitors such as Walmart and Costco, as well as from online rivals such as Amazon.

To do that, the company wants to offer a place where customers feel they can go to get the right information, follow-up support or help with a product. Similar to what’s found in Apple’s store-within-a-store concepts, extra training and support staff for the Samsung products also help fill in the informational gaps that exist in the current retail model.

This chip is also at the heart of the iPhone SE. The Apple Watch extended step-counting capability to Apple’s first wearable device using the accelerometer and gyroscope integrated in the Apple S1 SIP System in package.

Apple Watch works in parallel with a connected iPhone to improve accuracy of the user’s step count. The Fitbit is an always-on electronic pedometer, that in addition to counting steps also displays distance traveled, altitude climbed via a number of flights of steps count, calories burned, current intensity, and time of day.

Worn in an armband at night, it also purports to measure the length and quality of a user’s sleep. Inbuilt is a daily target, of 10, steps and 10 flights of stairs. Connected by USB with a computer, the user’s data is automatically uploaded and displayed via a web-based profile page, that keeps track of historical data, to which can be added food consumption data.

Based on activity users are awarded badges for daily step and climbing targets, as well as ‘lifetime’ awards for same. Individuals can improve the accuracy of their stride length settings by measuring and calibrating their average stride length.

Since most smartphones, iPod Touches and some MP3 players are enhanced with an integrated accelerometer it is possible to introduce pedometer functionality to these devices. This option was successfully realized by a number of smartphone application developers, enabling any fitness savvy smartphone owner to track the number of steps taken as well as distance traveled and calories used.

This is the first integrated phone with an always-on pedometer which counts steps like a traditional pedometer. The sensor is made by ADI. This handset was introduced in Japan in and has sold over 3 million units.
