Ive been with BOH for a long time and haven’t had problems until this year. Luckily the bank employees have always been pleasant and helpful. Stop following Taylor C. Probably better to look around before you decide to open an account with BOH. For those of you who live in Hawaii and think it’s the paradise, I hate to bust your bubble but as someone who lived their for 2 years, I have to say I absolutely hated that place as a resident.

And my terrible experience includes B Hawaii. The way they are organized is very out-dated. There is just such a mysterious bureaucratic maze that you need to figure out even as a customer, and if you account is locked down for some reason, good luck to you to get your money unlocked.

Stay away from B Hawaii, and also stay away from Hawaii as a whole, if it is possible for you. I’m only giving Bank of Hawaii 1 star because giving 0 stars isn’t an option on Yelp, though I do believe that as a company Bank of Hawaii ranks about as low as any I’ve ever dealt with.

Also don’t expect anyone to be remotely helpful or sympathetic to your situation. I was one of 6 people who had their wallets stolen and I’m the only one who has yet to receive my replacement card, coincidentally I’m the only one who banks with BOH.

Second, assuming your ID also got stolen with your wallet don’t rely on taking cash out of your account with your legally issued Hawaii paper temporary ID. They apparently only allow you to take out cash once with the paper ID not all tellers will ever mention this I have discovered and then from there you’re up the creek without a paddle since your new debit card isn’t going to be arriving anytime in the near or immediate future.

Third of all, expect lots of mail from BOH on a regular basis but also expect them to pretend to not know your address when it would be remotely convenient for you even if you haven’t moved in over 2 years.

Last but not least, they close at 3: I hope this review will save someone from making the same mistakes as I have. Ive been with BOH for a long time and haven’t had problems until this year.

Waiting in line and hours for this location was never an issue for me like it is for other reviewers – pretty expected considering its a main branch located in the heart of Downtown. I applied for a personal loan consolidation a month ago and still have not received my response after talking to four different employees after the first one said it should only take business days for a final decision.

He found my application on her desk and didn’t even process it! He apologized, and told me he will process it. I missed her call and received her voicemail. Called back twice that day and next, left her voicemails and havent heard from her since.

Today – went to the branch for an update. The male employee told me that the application got cancelled because apparently I didn’t call them back. I had to reapply, which will take another two weeks for wait for a response.

Seriously BOH, theres a lot of good things about you that keep me a loyal customer but please do what you promise to do. This branch is always busy when I need to go in there. A long line and few tellers yet the branch floor is so huge.

Luckily the bank employees have always been pleasant and helpful. Many friendly, helpful people. Would recommend if you need a new bank. I was going to give two stars but after this mornings experience at the Honolulu Main Branch with the teller I would like to give no stars but I guess i’ll give one star.

Customer Service phone banking told me that my card new card was suppose to be received around February because my old card expired the ending of March and its almost May and still no card.

I called a couple of weeks before my card was going to expire and they told me that a new card has been sent in February to my PO Box which I closed back in I go to the bank twice a month on pay day and everytime I go a teller asks me to verify my mailing address which I tell them and tell them everytime that my PO Box is closed and no longer my mailing address.

In a similar incident such as this occuring has happened and that was resolved by me just getting the card sent to the Mililani Branch for me to pick up. Which I’ve been getting alot of wrong information because the customer serive people on the phone tells me that my card was sent to the PO box and in branch tells me my card is sent to my hosue address.

Ain’t I the customer? Shouldn’t the bank satisfy the customer and not the other way around?! Now I gotta wait another days for a card which is technically I was supposed to received 3 months ago.

Also, the teller that I had this morning deserves a negative rating in customer service. She was working window 6 teller name Liumata or something like that. Went to take cash out and obviously could tell she was irriitated with her previous customer and was taking it out on me.

Having a little hissy fit pounding the keyboard typing whatevers into the computer and I thought it was standard practice for the tellers to count the money each individual bill infront of you.

In this case the teller did not do that the money came out of the machine in a stack and she kind of just threw it on the table and said here you go. I just got a phone call from them after moving and when they call they want you to give them your last 4 SSN and Birthday!

Then they asked for an updated address! They already have it! They wanted it in writing like a fax or email and to top it off a signature!! Is that how you practice your customer service!!!

All the information you have of mine you can steal my identity!! I am so glad that this will be the last time I will ever deal with Bank of Hawaii! The worst bank I have ever dealt with! My whole family is closing all our BOH accounts.

When we tried to close my father in law’s trust account after he passed away, it was like pulling teeth to get the money. The trust department had all the necessary documents straight from our attorney, but they still gave us a hard time.

Always reallllly slow and long lines and they close so early! Really inconvenient with work and class. The lines are always almost out the door Bank Of Hawaii Claimed This business has been claimed by the owner or a representative.

He explained some new features with their ATMs and online banking and made sure I had everything I needed. Overall, I spent about 15 minutes in the bank and have nothing to complain about.

As someone who prefers to do all my banking online, I actually look forward to visiting this bank again in the near future. Not going into much detail for this review because the service was FAST.

There was about 6 people ahead of me and the employees got to complete their services for them in about minutes. The bank was clean, and of course it’s a bank, you can see many cameras but it just made me nervous haha!

I come here every pay day to pay off bills and they line isn’t long so I come here. Bank of Hawaii is a great bank and I recommend non local people to open a bank account here!

They have great benefits and deals once you open a bank account. Everyone always has a smile on their face and always gives you the information that you need! They will give you everything you want before you leave out that door!

The kind of customer service I enjoy being around. Bank of Hawaii always helps you out: D Fast in, fast out. Beth was nice and gave good service. I like the look of this bank. Lots of light and open feel.

One of the most busiest banks I’ve ever been into, my entire life. There’s usually always a line unless the Waikiki businesses are slow. But the staff that work here are super nice. If you’re in a rush or time crunch the moi’ili’ili branch has later hours and shorter lines.

This one has merchants that work in Waikiki, tourists changing their money some don’t know English so it goes a bit slow here and lots of construction workers cashing their checks. Avoid the 1st day of the month, Monday and Friday.

Fridays that start off the month? Fuhgetaboutit Been frequenting this branch over a year now. Always greeted with a smile and friendly hello by the concierge at the front of the bank when I arrive.

The tellers are friendly and helpful and greet me by name! This bank is a joke they close at 4pm mon – Thursday.. Wtf let’s open a branch in waikiki that no one ever goes to.

Big, beautiful branch in a very convenient location but not very dedicated to customer service. The lines are often long and move slowly, and the desks are manned by staff committed to providing minimal service.

This is one of the nicest office building here in Waikiki. The amenities are pretty good here compared to the other office buildings here in Waikiki there’s easy parking access, easy access for customers to enter and exit the building.

There is a on the corner by the parking entrance of the building which is a convenient place for me where I go to to pick up things that I need that are not easily accessible and available in Waikiki.

Online checking is bad. Can’t see spending on hold. Can’t transfer money from one to another bank account etc.. Always convenient and friendly staff to greet yu and know yr name too. Great attention to service.

I’ve really only used this for their atm’s which are awesome because after walking and sweating around Waikiki there’s nothing better than going into their freezing cold and safely windowed area.

Bank of Hawaii main branch just opened its new lobby, very high tech and modern but the line up for tellers is confusing as anything, with floor patterns instead of stanchions to show where to wait for tellers.

The tellers have to direct you by coming around their counters and the past two days numerous guides and officers of the bank had to show you where to stand.

Poor graphics and no signage. However, politeness and courtesy and attitude ruled the day, as a very nice cashier named Yvette handled my account with professionalsm, An unnecessary maintenance fee problem resolved without my saying much at all.

In the end, it’s not the fancy furnishings and decorative ambience that count; it’s personal service and courteous behavior by able people at the front lines! I came to Bank of Hawaii to simply exchange money for larger bills.

I wouldn’t even call it busy, because I was third in line. I’ve been waiting here for more than 15 minutes and that’s a very lengthy amount of time considering I was third in line.

As I stand here writing this, there are now 12 people behind me waiting. I noticed there were only 2 tellers, which was probably the cause of the slow down. My teller was very nice but I would really suggest Bankoh at this downtown location staff up to better their service.

This is a very difficult review to write as I haven’t given a review that was less than positive but in this case, it’s necessary. I came to BOH do a simple, single transaction. The ‘concierge’ with his tablet did not address me although we made eye contact several times and he could’ve easily handled my payment and I could’ve been on my way in a matter of minutes.

Instead, I stood in the Bankohana line which was a mistake as they were taking too long with a single customer. Customers in the regular line who came in after me were helped before me, the concierge kept looking at me and still did not offer to ask me how he could help nor did he approach any other customer.

I eventually moved to the regular line and by the time I left the branch, it was a good 20 minutes or so for a transaction that should’ve taken 2 minutes. Customer service is sorely lacking here Their ‘branch of the future’ is really taking a step actually several steps backward.

They threatened to forcefully close my account because I didn’t have time to come in and sign paperwork on an error that they made on my account. Since it is during my work hours, it is hard for me to take time to get to the main branch which closes before 4 PM btw.

But since “Keane” told me that my account was going to be closed today, I had to leave work to go to their branch to sign paperwork. When I got there, I shook the mans hand and requested a cashiers check to take my business elsewhere.

I have no clue how this bank has been voted best in america. Every year it is such a hassle because you have to call and get number They are so rude. I dont want to come back anymore.

I should have checked yelp first. I have never seen such a bad review. They should improve their services. Bank of Hawaii has a service fee problem that a previous lawsuit that they lost did not seem to change.

The original complaint was that they were listing deposits after clearing checks in order to charge multiple fees, stating that there was insufficient funds. In several personal instances, even when “Available Funds” showed the account had money in it, they charged the fee.

After phone calls and emails, they were unwilling to admit fault. Very shady business practice, and poor customer service! Bank of Hawaii needs to process debit and check transactions quicker and in order.

I’ve had checks bounce and overdraft fees because transaction were not processed in time or in order. This review is specifically for the Bank of Hawaii Loan Center. To keep it simple and prevent my review from turning into a rant, if you’re seeking a mortgage and care about customer service, I’d skip right past BOH and keep on looking.

At first contact, the loan officer I started talking to refused to give me any written confirmation via email about the rates she was quoting me. I dunno about you, but looking back now, this should have been a red flag.

After we expressed our interest in proceeding with the mortgage, the loan officer would take 2 days to return a phone call or email. Okay, seriously, this lady would say something to me, then backtrack a few moments later.

I don’t know why this didn’t bother me earlier, but it’s probably because I was too eager. This should be a red flag too! We got our loan documents sent to us via email by some BOH robot.

Our loan officer didn’t give us a heads up about anything. Still, not that big of a deal. When I noticed mistakes in our application and had questions, I called our loan officer and left a voicemail only to get an email from her that she was going to be on vacation for nearly two weeks.

She said she wouldn’t be able to take a look at or fix the documents until she gets back. Simple errors like marking that I am married, when I clearly stated that I am not were on the application signals to me that she didn’t even bother to check the documents before they were sent out.

I don’t care that she went on vacation, but it really peeves me that she couldn’t at least give us a heads up ahead of time that she would be unreachable during the time we would need to review and sign the documents.

Time passes, and at this point I’m kinda over the whole thing. I still have questions and the mistakes in the application are still there. Our loan officer gets back from vacation, and emails me back asking if I have questions, making a comment about how time is of the essence with the application.

After everything that happened, I plan on letting the application expire and pursuing my mortgage at another bank. Unless you’re a fan of DIY mortgage and letting someone else pocket the commission ala the loan origination fee, don’t waste your time at Bank of Hawaii!

The bankoh by phone is usually a ten-minute or longer wait, so I try to go in person on my lunch break which is the busy hour and they usually only have two or three tellers at the most to serve a long line.

Went to inquire about a credit card application that I was told I would get a response after ten days, but it’s been over three weeks. The bank tells me to call another number then that number tells me to call the bank and I just went in a circle.

Another time I tried to replace my lost card, but later found it. I found it, and told BOH to cancel my request. Two weeks later I was charged the fee and my card came in the mail.

Plus they charge you for every little thing. Why pay money to keep your money in a bank? Probably better to look around before you decide to open an account with BOH.

For those of you who live in Hawaii and think it’s the paradise, I hate to bust your bubble but as someone who lived their for 2 years, I have to say I absolutely hated that place as a resident.
